Top Ten Tuesday – July 24, 2012: Top Ten Most Vivid Worlds/Settings in Books

Okay, so I’m breaking the rule that I made for myself when I said I wasn’t going to make any other posts during my Wild Worlds buzz week. So before I even start, let me plead to you to at least check out what else has been going on this week! It’s seriously been so much fun interviewing these authors and I have been honored that they’ve lent their participation for this big event! So please check out all of the awesome interviews & giveaways that I’ve been posting so far this week!

Also, it just seems so appropriate — almost serendipitous — that this topic pops up during my feature week that I had named “Wild Worlds”!

Without further ado, it’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!

This week’s theme is: Top Ten Most Vivid Worlds/Settings in Books

I don’t really think most of these need explanations so I’m making a nice, concise list (in no particular order…)

  1. Harry Potter by JK Rowling – Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, etc (I think the movies helped on this a bit too, to be honest!)
  2. Wither/Fever by Lauren DeStefano
  3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (even before the movie – but not really Catching Fire or Mockingjay…)
  4. If I Stay/Where She Went by Gayle Forman
  5. Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
  6. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
  7. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle
  8. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
  9. The Maze Runner/The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
  10. Graceling by Kristin Cashore

What are your favorites? Do you agree with any of my top picks??

I really enjoy Lauren DeStefano’s books! I think Wither was better than Fever, but Fever worked itself out and both were still really enjoyable.
I loved Grave Mercy so much!!!
I think I’d like to reread Catching Fire & Mockingjay now that I’ve read everything (since I already reread THG before the movie came out) – But that’s ideallly, because honestly, when do I have the time!

Thanks!! I loved the world created in Wither/Fever! I felt like I could just picture everything that was going on – And Monument 14 had some great descriptions as well! And we get a map 🙂 Happy reading!!

    Harry Potter! Whoooo! haha.

I have Wither to read, so hopefully I’l enjoy that world.

I’m more interested by Grave Mercy which I’ve heard a little bit about. Historical young-adult fiction right? Sounds very intruiging!

    Great list! 🙂

I really, really enjoyed Grave Mercy (I’ll have to post my review sometime next week, I think) and I was totally surprised by it! I’m not usually one who likes historical fiction, but it was so easy to fall into that world. I loved it!

Yay for Harry Potter! I didn’t think of The Hunger Games actually, but I haven’t read the books yet. I saw the movie though! I’ve heard good things about The Maze Runner series as well.

I was surprised at how easily I fell into that world! The author did a great job of making me feel like I belonged there! [insert another Brittany joke here]
