Let’s Talk [2]: Blogging Time Management

Originally hosted by Melissa from i swim for oceans, Smash & Kt took her original inspiration, and made it their own, expanding it to more than just books. Let’s get personal (but respectfully so) and learn more about one another!  Each week, a different question will be posted along with a place to link up your posts and visit other people’s responses. This meme is definitely meant to bring out conversation and meet new people. So, Let’s Talk!

Today’s Question:

How much time do you think you spend on blogging each week, including commenting
on other blogs, participating in events, Twitter/Facebook blog talk, etc? Do you
have a time management system that works well for you? We’d love to know!

I actually spend a lot of time blogging! And the worst (or best) part about it is that a lot of that blogging time takes place at work. Whoops….

After I get all my posts done, I usually spread the word on all my social media sites once I get work and then once I’m caught up on actual work, I start commenting on other people’s blogs. I like to spread the love because everyone wants comments 🙂 I think it’s a great way to get the word out about your own blog as well.

I spend a LOT of time on Twitter… looking at other people’s link, chatting with other bloggers, keeping up on the daily news – It’s actually the best way for me to stay connected and active! The ladies from the Selective Collective and I usually email every day too so we’re always chatting back and forth as well as working out logistics for the books we’re receiving/reading.

I don’t really used Facebook a lot – I post my reviews there, every once in a while start a discussion, like other people’s posts, and post pictures from any events I’ve been to, but really Twitter works best for me!

I have zero time management. Pretty much everything is me flying by the seat of my pants! I’ve tried to get organized but then I just fail at what I’ve scheduled, so really, it’s not worth it!

I also LOVE to go to events when I can. Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville is great for hosting author signings – in fact, I’m going to this gem tonight (if you’re going to be there, let me know!) so I like to go to those when I can.

AND I found out yesterday that Forever Young Adult has book club locations all over the country (and even outside the US)! There’s one in Chicago, but really, I’m not going from the suburbs to the city for a book club so I’m trying to get some people together to start up a branch out in the suburbs. If you’re interested, please send me an email! We’d start with the December book and probably meet sometime after the holidays, location undetermined at the moment. Hope to hear from you!

It’s difficult sometimes to keep a consistent blogging schedule, and my blog is not even big! I don’t know how you do it XD I used to be guilty of doing a lot of personal work during actual working hours, lol, but I agree with spending time commenting and replying to others since it sparks conversation and you get to meet new people. Twitter is addictive, for sure.
Thanks for sharing the link to Forever YA Club! The nearest one is still hours away but I’m glad to know I’m not exactly all alone in my YA obsession. 😀

I’m so glad you posted up about the book clubs! There is actually one in the next county over from me, yay! I might actually finally be able to participate in an in person book club. I am glad you get to do a lot of blogging at work. I sneak mine in at work, too, but nowhere near as much as you get to, so that’s awesome your lucky in that department. Here’s what I had to say!

For me, blogging is new to me. I started it to help promote my novel. Time management….ha! What’s that? I have a job (as a property manager) and work about 3 to 5 hours a day, I’m working on MS (about 2 to 3 hours a day) trying to get it ready for release, I blog (2 to 3 hours) and I’m a mom of three boys (very active boys might I add). Throw in twitter, facebook and reading and you go one busy person!

Hi Tanya! Yes I am busy but “the rushing part” sometimes it feels like that but then I sit and think about how long I’ve worked on my MS and it seems like a life time!

I try to post a blog at least twice a week and it seems like it’s working out for me. However, there are times (like last night) that I am completely exhausted! I’m sure in the end it will be all worth it! 🙂

I don’t have a set schedule or anything either, but I do spend a lot of time doing blogging stuff, too. I also do some blogging at work, too, if I can. November has been so busy, that I have done very little blogging at work, but if it isn’t too busy, I can.

At work I usually read other blogs, and comment on other blogs. At home I write blog posts, and also try to comment on blogs.

I don’t always post my reviews in the order that I’ve read the books, either. If it is close to a release date I will move a book review up. But if the book has been out for awhile, it might sit in my drafts for a bit.

It looks like time management is an issue for a lot of us 😉 I’ve tried, I really have! And I’ll probably try again…but as of now I just post when I post and I’m all over FB and Twitter and yikes! Ah well, it’s a good thing we love this whole blogging thing so much isn’t it? 😉

I tried to do a blogging calendar one month and have tried to stick to a three day and then a two day a week schedule, but that never works out. I get busy and don’t post for two weeks+ or I’m just SO excited to talk about something that I want to post it right away. And I’m not good at managing blogging time. I blog when I feel like it which is pretty sporadic. I’m really good at managing my reading time, though… I always manage to fit that in somehow!

I’m exactly the same way! Half the time when I’m on social media I’m in class haha. And when it comes to planning, I pretty much do everything on the fly. It would probably take more time for me to actually plan things out then to just do them when I get around to it.

I definitely agree! I even bought a planner to write things down. But then I rearranged everything too many times and it was full of scribbles haha. I just have to do it as I go along!

This one hits home… I went from grad student to a 60/70 hour per week job and its been tough! You seem to manage just fine without the time management!
