Nantucket Blue Blog Tour

Welcome to my stop on the NANTUCKET BLUE blog tour!

Firstly, a big thanks to Leila Howland, Disney Hyperion, and Shane from Itching for Books for making this tour happen! I’m thrilled to be a part of it!

Before we get into my portion of the tour stop which is one of my favorite blurbs from the book, here’s a little more info about NANTUCKET BLUE:

Nantucket Blue
Expected Publication: May 7th 2013
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Purchase: Amazon

For Cricket Thompson, a summer like this one will change everything. A summer spent on Nantucket with her best friend, Jules Clayton, and the indomitable Clayton family. A summer when she’ll make the almost unattainable Jay Logan hers. A summer to surpass all dreams.
Some of this turns out to be true. Some of it doesn’t.
When Jules and her family suffer a devastating tragedy that forces the girls apart, Jules becomes a stranger whom Cricket wonders whether she ever really knew. And instead of lying on the beach working on her caramel-colored tan, Cricket is making beds and cleaning bathrooms to support herself in paradise for the summer.
But it’s the things Cricket hadn’t counted on–most of all, falling hard for someone who should be completely off-limits–that turn her dreams into an exhilarating, bittersweet reality.
A beautiful future is within her grasp, and Cricket must find the grace to embrace it. If she does, her life could be the perfect shade of Nantucket blue.

 About the Author

imageLEILA HOWLAND loves to read, explore L.A., and engage in funny and meaningful conversations with her friends and family, especially her brother who calls from Washington D.C. whenever he’s waiting for the bus. A lot gets discussed in those phone calls, but they tend to end abruptly when the bus shows up. She can really cut the rug, but wishes she could sing without people covering their ears. A graduate of Georgetown University, Leila spent five years acting in New York where she was a company member of the award-winning Flea Theater in Tribeca. It was a lot of fun and she often talks about “getting back into it.” The closest she has come was a stint as an extra on The Young and the Restless in 2010. Leila now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two dogs. She teaches high school English and blogs for HelloGiggles. NANTUCKET BLUE is her first novel.

For my part of the tour, I’m sharing with you one of my favorite blurbs from the book. There were so many to choose from but this one shows you the beauty of Leila Howland’s writing and gives the reader a fantastic feel for Nantucket without giving away any spoilers!

Just to preface, this is a part when our main character Cricket is riding her bike around Nantucket (her main mode of transportation) and on her way is taking in the beauty of the town:

“The moon was so bright, I had a shadow. There was something freeing about the whole thing, about getting myself there without waiting for someone to take me, about the air, which felt soft and smelled like hay, and listening to the invisible insects. Jeeps and mopeds sped past me, some of them blasting music, but there were long stretches of road that were quiet, just me, my breath, my shadow, and the sound of wheels whirring on the pavement. The best part was that I wasn’t afraid of being alone at night. This was why people came to Nantucket, I thought, so they wouldn’t have to be afraid at night.”

I just loved that quote! I love the imagery of the town and it’s like I can almost feel myself being there right along with Cricket, pedaling through the moonlit streets.

I hope you guys enjoyed the blurb from NANTUCKET BLUE! I really enjoyed this book and I feel like it’s a great read for spring/summer. It’s light & beachy but also addresses a lot of serious topics as well and I really enjoyed the romance that developed here! If you’re still not convinced, you can check out my review which actually posted back in April. There were so many things I really enjoyed about this book and I’ve read many glowing reviews since! It really is the perfect summer read.

This makes me want to go on a boat! And wear navy and white! Oh summer! I’ll have to read this one… maybe while wearing some cute nautical clothes and finagle my way on to a boat 😉
