Top Ten Tuesday – July 16, 2013: Top Ten Authors Who Deserve More Recognition

TTT

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!
This week’s topic: Top Ten Authors Who Deserve More Recognition

LR

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions #1)
Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend (Confessions #2) – Review to come!

Why you should check out this author: I was totally shocked with CoaAG when I first read it last year. I was expecting it to be some frilly silly contemporary but there was so much more than just a fun romance (and that romance gave me a lot more butterflies)! I just finished book two and I think book one is still my favorite but both are so great!

DS

Anatomy of a Boyfriend (Anatomy #1)
Anatomy of a Single Girl (Anatomy #2)

Why you should check out this author: Daria Snadowsky approached me to review her books just a couple months ago and I’m so happy I said yes to her request! I had seen a few reviews here and there and thought I would really enjoy them. Turns out, I basically finished both books within two days. Daria Snadowsky is great at a realistic portrayal of teens, dating, sex, best friends, and family life. There’s the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between. I really identified with Dom on a lot of things and I think these books are a great read if you’re in the mood for realistic contemp!

LL

Going Vintage

Why you should check out this author: I actually need to make good on my promotion here and read Sean Griwold’s Head soon! I adored Going Vintage and thought it was super cute! I think Lindsey deserves more recognition for at least that book and hopefully I feel the same way about her others too!

LRM

The Summer I Became A Nerd

Why you should check out this author: I expected to like this book, but oh my gosh! It was so stinkin’ adorable and it totally made me proud to be a nerd! I absolutely loved reading this book AND it has a swoony nerdy romance. LOVE IT.

EL

Monument 14 (Monument 14 #1)
Monument 14: Sky on Fire (Monument 14 #2)

Why you should check out this author: I first met Emmy on the Fierce Reads Tour 2012 and I know she’s on the tour again this spring/summer, but I still feel like she’s not getting the amount of recognition she deserves! I don’t see a lot of reviews for her books out there — Maybe I’m just missing them? — But Monument 14 is a great series and I really recommend that more people read it! It’s interesting to see a male POV in these books amongst the disaster and I like that mix up from the female POV.

SD

Something Strange and Deadly (Something Strange and Deadly #1)
A Dawn Most Wicked (Something Strange and Deadly #0.5)

Why you should check out this author: Susan is pretty freakin’ awesome. Besides being super sweet, she writes these awesome zombie novels which totally made me like zombie novels when I thought I hated zombies. Well, I like hers. The stories are great, the characters are fun and lively, and even in the freaking novella there are plot twists! Let’s just say I can’t wait to get my hands on A Darkness Strange and Lovely!

SJK

Insignia (Insignia #1)

Why you should check out this author: I thought Insignia was a boy book, but I saw so many awesome reviews for it that I decided to try it. DUDE. Firstly, it is male POV but S.J. Kincaid is a lady! Not like that really matters either way for my opinion of the book…. Because it was totally awesome! I really loved this book and I don’t know why I haven’t read Vortex yet, but I MUST do that soon. Sci-fi, futuristic elements, and great characters… check it out.

Okay, so I only came up with seven, but that’s SEVEN authors you need to go check out. Don’t worry. I’ll wait. Have you added these to your Goodreads lists yet? Go go go!

Ahhhh I haven’t read anything by any of these authors! I’ve heard great things about most of these authors and books thought. If I had to choose the one I’m most interested in, it’d probably be Susan Dennard. I could really use a good zombie book right now, and c’mon, her novellas contain twists?! I find myself sort of hesitant when it comes to reading novellas, but how could I pass on that?!

I so so agree about Lindsey Leavitt, though I’m the opposite of you. I’ve only read SGH! It was a huge surprise to me though. I really loved it, and now I need Going Vintage ASAP.

I really enjoyed Monument 14 and I can’t wait to read the next one. I agree with you, it doesn’t seem like to many people are reading her books and that should change.

I can’t wait to read Going Vintage it sounds so cute!

I just received the two books from Daria two months ago as well, and I did the exact same thing! I read them in two days because I couldn’t get enough. They were so funny and realistic (probably as realistic as it gets). I’m glad you loved her books like I did! Can’t wait to see your review!

I haven’t read anything by S.J. Kincaid, but I’ve heard great things, so I’ll definitely be reading one of her books soon (as soon as I get my hands on a copy haha). Great list!

Insignia was so good! I really wasn’t expecting it to be but I was pleasantly surprised!
My reviews for Daria’s books are actually already up! They’re linked in the TTT post 🙂

Ooh, I have actually heard of almost all of these authors! But I haven’t read any of them yet. I’m not a huge contemporary fan, so that explains some of them. Others are on my list, but I haven’t gotten around to them yet. I may have to move them up!

I didn’t do a TTT this week, but you’re welcome to check out my first ever discussion post. 🙂

Yay Susan Dennard! She’s totally awesome and I love her to pieces! Definitely agree with you on Lindsay Leavitt; I haven’t read Sean Griswald yet, but after reading Going Vintage I’m gonna have to! Wonderful list; so many great authors on here that I hope get lots more recognition very soon!

I keep seeing Susan Dennard, and since I JUST downloaded her first I think it may be time. Lindsay Leavit is another I haven’t read yet, and must! Anddd [don’t kill me] but Daria is on my list to read as well, I haven’t read her books yet! WHAT AM I DOING WITH LIFE!?

HOWEVER. I agree with Louise, she made my list as well! I adore her books! I can’t wait for more from her! [there BETTER be more, she can’t leave us hanging like that!]
