My Latest Bookish Addiction [8] – The Lunar Chronicles

MLBA

In keeping with the theme of my blog, I decided to start bringing you updates of the newest and greatest bookish addictions in my life so I can share with you some awesomely bookish things or discuss if maybe we share the same bookish loves. It seemed like a great way to get a little discussion going in a very relaxed way.

This Edition’s Bookish Addiction? THE LUNAR CHRONICLES

The Lunar Chronicles: Original Art by The Book Addict's Guide

Original fan art: The Lunar Chronicles — Created by The Book Addict’s Guide, Sept 2013

I was fortunate enough to win an ARC of CRESS, the third book in The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer, from Macmillan. CRESS isn’t officially published until February 2014 and usually I wait until closer to the pub date to read my advanced copies but I honestly could not wait to dive in and completely devour this book, and GUYS. It. Was. Amazing. Don’t worry — there will be a full review coming close to the pub date with ALL THE FANGIRLING but I absolutely needed to talk about some of the feels NOW and share them with my fellow bloggers!

I was already a fan with CINDER, and SCARLET totally amazed me but CRESSCRESS was just out of this world! (No pun intended. Okay, pun kind of intended.) Each main character that gets added to this story,  I get more and more hooked and never overwhelmed. Each one feels unique to me as well, providing their own voice and adding another layer to an already amazing story.

Without any spoilers, I wanted to share with everyone what I love so much about The Lunar Chronicles AAAAND what you have to look forward to in CRESS! (Spoiler-free! Cross my heart!)

THORNE

In The Lunar Chronicles: Throne brings an awesome comic relief to some pretty serious characters with pretty serious agendas! I love how his personality fits in with this cast of characters and the humor is greatly appreciated! He’s also extremely important as the owner of the Rampion which is frequently essential as a mode of transportation! Also? He’s my Han Solo. (And probably Marissa Meyer’s too? *nudge* *wink*)
In Cress: Thorne is dreeeeeeamy. We get to see a LOT of Thorne in CRESS and a lot of his dazzling charm. I said no spoilers so I won’t get into details, but I love how prominently he was featured and how he really became a main character instead of just Cinder’s current sidekick/assistant. Oh, and did I mention he’s dreamy? Because yeah. Serious swoons!!!

LUNARS

In the Lunar Chronicles: The Lunars fascinate me. I love what Marissa Meyer has done with the Lunar race. It’s so interesting that they live on the moon and they’re different than humans but UNLIKE so many sci-fi series, the are NOT aliens. I love that their powers and glamour aren’t just magic either. There are actual explanations and they have a whole world of their own that I am LOVING exploring.
In Cress: We get to see a lot more of… dun dun dun…. LEVANA. Dude, Levana terrifies me. We also get to see: more life on Luna, more thaumaturge interaction, more info about shells, another glimpse at Lunars on Earth, AND more Lunar characters.

THE ACTION

In The Lunar Chronicles: The action in this series is FANTASTIC. Marissa Meyer does a really great job making each of these scenes detailed, exciting, and CLEAR. I feel like too often I read actions scenes that get confusing really quickly because so much is happening, but I never feel lost in this series! There’s also a wonderful balance between action scenes, dialogue, and information. Everything seems to have the perfect balance to keep the reader engaged in pretty much every type of way at all times.
In Cress: I legit gasped and shouted my way through CRESS. Remember all those surprises in SCARLET? There are MORE SURPRISES in CRESS!!! I also literally felt like I was watching a movie as I was reading this book. I could see everything in my head as it was happening which actually is kind of difficult for me sometimes. I could picture each one of these action scenes and as I was reading, I was trying to decide where I need to start petitions and pleas to make these books in to movies ASAP.

THE ROMANCES

In The Lunar Chronicles: Everyone is pairing off and I am swooning big time! I actually didn’t feel a lot of spark between Cinder & Kai in CINDER but I loved Scarlet & Wolf in SCARLET. I think Cinder & Kai was actually more of a slow development for me, personally, but I’ve loved watching how this relationship develops!
In Cress: So, so, so many swoons. We’re looking at THREE main romances with a dash of crushes and I loved every single one of them. And when I say loved, I mean I was OBSESSED with every single one of them. Each one of them grows stronger in CRESS and I can’t wait for everyone to experience ALL THE FEELS.

THE TWISTS

In The Lunar Chronicles: I think CINDER just had one really major twist for me and that was where SCARLET totally blew me away — there were SO many surprises in SCARLET that I was like, “Marissa Meyer, HOW DO YOU DO THIS?” I am honestly astounded with how well Marissa weaves in these plots and subplots and twists and… seriously. Truly, truly amazed.
In Cress: You know how I said that SCARLET blew me away with all the twists? Hold on to your pants, my friends. CRESS is a wild ride full of reveals and shock and delight and gasps. Once again… totally dumbfounded (in a good way) with how well all the pieces of the puzzle fit together — and pieces I never even thought to question! It’s SO SO GOOD.

In short, CRESS is amazing, folks. There’s no doubt that fans of this series will be over the moon (har har. I’m actually really not trying to do this…) with CRESS. There was not one thing I would change about this book or this series as a whole. My obsession with this series maaaay be borderline unhealthy because I honestly can’t stop thinking about how awesome it is and everything I read about it just makes me want more more more.  I was already loving The Lunar Chronicles, but CRESS easily sealed its fate as one of my favorite series OF ALL TIME.

Have you been lucky enough to read CRESS yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts and feelings and fangirling!!!
Super excited to be able to read CRESS this winter?? What are you most excited for? Is The Lunar Chronicles series your Latest Bookish Addiction too?

Like I wasn’t impatient enough already! :p A LOT OF THORNE TIME, and I thought Cress couldn’t sound better <3 More surprises, twist, I'm willing to sell a kidney to get my hands on this book. Fairytales are my favorite thing in the world <3

OMG I am BEYOND JEALOUS you got a copy of Cress! This is one of my absolute series in a long time, and I even reread Cinder right before I read Scarlet, and rereads pretty much never happen for me, and I will probably reread again before Cress and Winter, that is how much I love this series! Also, definitely drop by my blog tomorrow because I think you will really enjoy my Lunar Chronicles related post! Marissa Meyer is so far past awesome there isn’t a word it. Very genius the way she has spun these tales into her own creative tellings. Love, love, love!!

Thorne and Cress are gonna get together aren’t they? I can just tell and that makes me that much more excited for the book.
I really didn’t like Scarlet and Wolfe, but I LOVED Cinder and Kai and their sweet relationship where they were able to actually TALK about things and act like friends. Really refreshing.

I thought I couldn’t get even more excited to read Cress, but your post totally just made me! I’m SO glad you loved it, and I’m really excited to see more of Thorne, and the sample chapter of Cress has me really liking Cress as the MC! 🙂 I love your art you posted!

I really want to read this series, but so far I’ve been holding strong to my “don’t start a series until it’s finished” policy. I hate waiting (which I guess I’m doing anyway, but it’s not the same), and I love being able to sink into a world reading all the books at once.

I have not been lucky enough to read Cress yet, but I’m dying to!!!! I am also completely obsessed with this series. It totally surprised me. I didn’t think I would like it, but I am head over heels in love with it!!! I love Wolf! And Thorne! And even Kai, though I agree that relationship is going to take some time for me. It sounds like we might see more Cinder and Kai in Cress??? Since we didn’t see them together at all in Scarlet. Ahh! Let’s fangirl together over this series because it is so amazing! Marissa Meyer is a genius. I absolutely love her! She is an auto-buy author for sure.

Yes! I feel like a few characters…. not got lost in Scarlet but just weren’t as prominent and I feel like in CRESS, pretty much everyone got to be up front and very relevant to the story. I’m so excited for you to read it! I can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts 😀

Eeek I’m so excited for Cress! And I love this post. Pretty much every sentence of your post just made me MORE excited. I am ready for another ride with Cress. If only February wasn’t so far away, haha. It’s probably a good thing–I’ll need time to get into the right mental state.
Also, THORNE IS A MORE MAIN CHARACTER IN CRESS? This is everything I wanted to hear EVER. Like, I know everyone loves Thorne, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY love Thorne! He’s potentially my favorite male character in a book EVER(well, Peeta might still be in first place, but Thorne is close behind). And I’m so excited to be introduced to Cress as well!
