Best of 2014 Book Giveaway!

best of 2014 book giveaway graphic

I can’t believe it’s December already! The year has truly flown by. But this also means I get to do one of my favorite things which is recapping and sharing with you my favorite reads of this year! Ginger at GReads! hosts her own Best of 2014 Book Giveaway and invited other bloggers to hop in on this event so when Ginger asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, I immediately said yes!

The past few years, I have been terrible at keeping track of what my favorite books were. I mean, Goodreads basically does the work for me and I had a favorites shelf and I could go back and see what I read, but as the years go by, I get more and more organized. This year I actually made a “Best of 2014” shelf so choosing which books I want to share with you today will be a snap!

RE-READS

Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins
The Scorpio Races – Maggie Stiefvater
Walk Two Moons – Sharon Creech

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: This book gave me some SUPER FEELS all over again! If you’ve already read this & loved it, I HIGHLY recommend a re-read and if you haven’t, you probably need to win this giveaway so you can ask for it! 😀

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: This book is SO beautiful and the audio is simply fantastic too, if you’ve an audiobook person! I loved my first read of this but I think the second was even better. Brought so many feels back and I had forgotten exactly how it ended so that was a nice little surprise too!

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech: I’m not really expecting someone to pick this if they win the giveaway but it has to be noted that this middle grade re-read was one of my best books of 2014. I read it as a kid and it’s STILL powerful to me today. I don’t know if reading it for the first time as an adult would hold the same weight for others since I did have all those childhood feelings creeping back but I still think it’s wonderful!

BEGINNINGS AND STAND ALONES

Dissonance (Dissonance #1) – Erica O’Rourke
Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas
Open Road Summer – Emery Lord
The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) – Scott Lynch

Dissonance (Dissonance #1) by Erica O’Rourke: This was SUCH a “me” book. Parallel universes, romance, music theory, set in Chicago… Totally Brittany. I absolutely loved it too! The science behind everything was fascinating and the romance was so sweet.

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas: This mystery/thriller is totally realistic and totally swept me away. I read it in a single day and just devoured it. I was totally hooked and don’t fear the hype — it’s totally amazing!

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord: Soooo many feels for this book (Matt Finch!) and I even liked the country music aspect of this! Who would have though, right? The friendships, the romance. Gah. This book has it all!

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) by Scott Lynch: If you’re looking to get into fantasy or adult fantasy, try this book! It’s a bit lengthy compared to most YA novels but it’s soooo much fun (and I hope you don’t mind cursing). It was a laugh a minute with brilliant characters and the best bromance I’ve ever read to boot.

BOOK THREE SEEMS TO BE MY FAVORITE

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) – Veronica Rossi
Ruin and Rising (Grisha Trilogy #3) – Leigh Bardugo
Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) – Marissa Meyer
Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) – Maggie Stiefvater
Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin #3) – Robin LaFevers

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) by Veronica Rossi: I think the second book may have been my favorite of this trilogy but ItSB was so wonderful and exactly how a series/trilogy should end. I thought Veronica Rossi totally knocked it out of the park and it made me SO happy to have such a wonderful ending to the trilogy because I want to keep on recommending it!

Ruin and Rising (The Grisha Trilogy #3) by Leigh Bardugo: I just love this series to pieces. If you’re looking for a great fantasy series and you haven’t read this yet, START IT. Leigh Bardugo penned a fantastic trilogy here and it’s one I will recommend and re-read many times, I’m sure!

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer: I actually read this back in 2013 but it was released in 2014 so it counts! If you know me but at all, you know that this is one of my favorite series. I still remember ALL THE FEELINGS when I read this and it was honestly so cinematic! Just a masterpiece.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater: Oh. My. Gansey. This book just killed me. How am I supposed to wait for book four again!?!? I love this series and this was by far the best one so far. OH, THE FEELS.

Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin #3) by Robin LaFevers: I just LOVED these companion novels but omg, MORTAL HEART. It was so amazing! I’ve always been dying to find out Annith’s story and I really love how this whole series comes together!

SERIES

throneofglass    mistborn

(prize would be your choice of book from the series)

The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass # 0.1 – 0.5) – Sarah J. Maas
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) – Sarah J. Maas
Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) – Sarah J. Maas
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) – Sarah J. Maas
Mistborn: The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) – Brandon Sanderson
The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) – Brandon Sanderson

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: I binge read this series in the summer/fall and gahhhh. I fell in love. HEIR OF FIRE, OMG. These books really got me even deeper into fantasy and I am already dying for book four. Eeeek.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson: I also binge read this series and WOW. Another adult fantasy collection that I just fell head over heels for. I almost wish I hadn’t binge read it…? Because now I want so much more of it haha. I will have to stick to the spin-offs and other Sanderson books afterwards!

I would pick the Lunar Chronicles #1, as it is a series I have been interested in for a while.

My favorite book this year has been “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty. I just couldn’t put it down.

I loved Cress, The Raven Cycle series, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, The Knife of Never Letting Go, and Teeth. I’d choose Heir of Fire, there’s so much love for this series, I can’t wait to get into it. Thank you for the giveaway, enjoy your day. 🙂

I have read every book on this list but TWO (and mistborn) and I loved them all (and I will read mistborn and dissonance SOON) These are all such good books, honestly, I don’t know what I would pick if I won – maybe The Scorpio Races since I don’t have my own copy – or Locke Lamora since I only have this on audio! Thanks for the giveaway!

Honestly, there are quite a few books I’d like to win from your favorites! But the one I’d pick if I were to win would be The Lies of Locke Lamora 🙂 Fantasy is totally my jam 😉

Hi! I would pick the third Throne of Glass novel! I just read the first two this year and I absolutely loved it. One of my faves this year was I’ll Give You the Sun because I loved the prose and writing style.
P.S. You’re the first person I know to have read Walk Two Moons – my copy is battered and torn, but it still brings so many memories!

Oh, and since I commented before reading the “leave a comment” portion of the giveaway, I would pick either Dissoance or the second Mistborn book if I won… HOPEFULLY I’m getting the first Mistborn book for Christmas since I asked for it! 🙂

I’d pick Cress, but I agree with you on so many of the favorites. Anna and the French Kiss, Into the Still Blue and Crown of Midnight were all so amazing. And I’ve only recently started The Raven Cycle but I need Blue Lily, Lily Blue, too.

This is a hard choice but I believe I would choose Blue Lilly Blue! Maggie is one of my favorite authors! I just finished the second book to the Throne of Glass series and I am in love!! One of the best series I have read so far this year! Thanks for the giveaway!

Ugh this is such a hard choice! Cress, Scorpio Races, Ruin and Rising! (I read all those this past year, and that last one is definitely a favorite for 2014…)
BUT I think I would actually pick a book I haven’t read yet: so now it’s a tie between BLLB, and Throne of Glass. 🙂

This would be a tough choice for me. If I win, it will be a toss-up between Dangerous Girls and Open Road Summer. I’ve heard so many positive things about both. As for my favorite read this year? I read so many misses, so honestly I think one of my harry potter re-reads was my favorite =\

I think my favorite book of the year was Landline by Rainbow Rowell. As for which book I would choose, that’s hard! You have SO MANY good choices. I would probably end up going with Heir of Fire, but I also really loved Cress and Mortal Heart, too! (Also, who doesn’t love Anna and the French Kiss?)

My favorite book this year was Me Before You by Jojo Moyes! I finished it in March and I already want to reread it! And if I won this… gahhh I don’t know what I’d choose because they all look so good and I haven’t read any of these except Anna! I’m leaning towards the Lunar series or Open Road Summer…too many choices!

There were so many books this year, I can’t choose just one. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart — I read this in June and it’s still on my mind. It’s on many Best of 2014 lists for a reason!! This review by Parade.com says it best, “A rich, stunning summer mystery with a sharp twist that will leave you dying to talk about the book with a pal or ten.”

On the Fence by Kasie West — Loved this book. Four words: older brother’s best friend!

The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith — This book left me with the biggest “just finished a good book” high this year.

What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick — Love her and can’t wait for her next book.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins — This definitely was a happy ending for the Anna and the French Kiss Series.

I would choose Open Road Summer because my bookshelf has no room for series. I got scolded …

I think I would pick Blue Lily, Lily Blue or Cress… I am honestly not sure yet, though. You have some seriously great books up there! Some of my favorites this year have been Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan and A Breath of Frost by Alyxandra Harvey! Thank you so much for the giveaway. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

I would pick Open Road Summer! I’ve heard so many wonderful things about that book, but haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet.

It’s hard to choose but one of my favorite reads this year would be: PRISONER OF NIGHT AND FOG by Anne Blankman. 🙂

There were so many amazing books this year! I don’t know how to pick a favorite! I really enjoyed The Body Electric, The Young Elites, Snow Like Ashes, and Open Road Summer.
If I won, I’d want Blue Lily, Lily Blue… unless I someone gets it for me for Christmas. I put it on my Xmas wishlist, so that’s actually pretty likely. In that case, I’d want Cinder because I haven’t started that series yet, but I’ve heard so many great things about it.

My favorite book of this year was Compulsion by Martina Boone! It was super out of my comfort zone but it was amazing! I also loved Open Road Summer and Let’s Get Lost. 🙂 I want to become a Sarah J. Maas fangirl so I would probably choose The Assassin’s Blade. 🙂

My favorite reads of 2014 were on your list — Dissonance and Anna!
I read Anna for the first time this year with the Isla is Coming Read-a-long and it made me so happy and fluffy, I can’t even deal. I just read it 5 months ago and I’m ready for round 2!
Also Dissonance. GAH. This was also a huge “me” book. It’s funny, I saw a LOT of people out there enjoyed it and gave it 3-3.5 stars, but you and I both wrote gushing reviews about how much we loved it, haha!

I checked Dissonance out from the library (what an idiot – I should have known I’d love it and want to own it) so I would probably want to snag a copy of Dissonance for my shelves, if I won! 🙂

I think I would choose the first book from the Grisha Trilogy because I’ve been meaning to read that one for a LONG time! I can’t pick just one favorite from 2014, but the first one that popped into my head was The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, so I’m going with that! 🙂

Thanks for the giveaway, Brittany! I think I still need a few weeks to reflect on all I’ve read before definitively choosing a favorite (and may not even be able to then), but I did LOVE All the Truth That’s in Me by Julie Berry.
And hmm I think I’d choose The Assassin’s Blade. Such a pretty cover!

I have heard so many good comments about Cress, that would be the book I would choose. So many good favorites this year but the book that stood with me all year would be This Star Won’t Go Out; The Life and Words of Ester Earl. I loved reading about her journey, so many great lessons to learn from her. Happy holidays and thanks for the giveaway.

Lies of Locke Lamora!!! Best bromance, I totally agree. So much love for this series. As for Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I wasn’t totally enamoured. I mean, I loved it because again, I love the series, but because I enjoy Ronan’s storyline so much, Dream Thieves is definitely my current favourite (I just have to forget about the weird ending…)

I would probably choose Cress if I won, but to choose a favorite book of 2014?! That’s really hard! Fangirl was the first book I read this year and I have to say, that one still has my heart pretty firmly, but there are so many others, too! Thanks for the giveaway. 🙂

I read Walk Two Moons! I still have it on my shelf even though the pages are brown. Great recap! Throne of Glass I think is present in every bloggers recap!

My best reads this year would be How We Fall by Kate Brauning, Creed by Trisha Leaver and Lindsay Currie, Pieces of Olivia by Melissa West. All of them are contemporaries. I love stand alones! So I’d be thrilled if I won either Dangerous Girls or Open Road Summer.

I love posts like this where you see others favourite books of the year, it helps me remind me of what’s been released over the year, but also helps book up my TBR list, which is so not a thing I need to do.

There are so many great books you’ve listed here but I think if I won I’d want Open Road Summer, I’ve read it and loved it, but I don’t own a physical copy yet, so it would be great to reread I think. I don’t know if I could narrow down my favourite books of 2014, there are so many of them that narrowing it down would be impossible. Possibly the Study series by Maria V SNyder, because I discovered it this year and absolutely adored it.

If I won, I’d pick either Heir of Fire or one of the Mistborn books.

My favorite book of the year is a 3 way tie between The Kiss of Deception, The Winners Curse, and Ignite Me.
