TOP TEN TUESDAY
January 26, 2016

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic was a freebie and I chose to share ten places/settings mentioned in books that I’ve also visited!

Untitled

Which books feature places that you’ve been to? Any take place in your hometown/favorite vacation spot?? It’s so much fun to identify with places in books!!

Jance’s Joanna Brady and the Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead. The only problem I have with books set where I live, is when the places mentioned are wrong, it makes me crazy. Where did you get this information?

Oh my gosh I LOVE this topic! And I’ve never really thought about it before… I definitely want to take a “new look” at my books now. 😀
I’ve never been to Las Vegas but I’m hoping to make that a priority before I turn 30 haha.

There was an episode of Parks & Rec where Ron mentions the Sears Tower, and it didn’t occur to me until later that the episode was from after that whole mess. And then I wondered, does the rest of the country even know they changed (well, tried to change) the name? Or was it only big news here? #searstowerforever

This is such a cool topic! I wish I paid more attention to the places I visit when I read. I guess I kinda suck at paying attention to setting. I think it would be so fun, though, to take a trip one day and go to all the towns that my favorite books take place in (the non-fictional ones, of course).

What a coincidence – I JUST posted about my a field trip to a book setting (Cannery Row in California)! It’s super touristy now, but still worth a visit.

The Rocky Mountains are lovely, I wish I could live near mountains and revel in all the fluffy snow. I wouldn’t even mind scraping the ice off my car…

‘Bone Gap’ by Laura Ruby takes place in rural small-town Illinois, but the setting reminded me a lot of Iowa, where I used to live. (Cornfields, vast expanses, etc. etc.) So though I technically haven’t visited that setting, it really felt as though I had 🙂

I’m not even from Chicago and I will NEVER call it anything other than the Sears Tower. Don’t try to make it happen people!

Love this list. I need to visit some of these places in real life still.

This is a great topic choice! I have been to all of these but Aruba and Vegas. We were within an hour of Vegas but didn’t stop.
I can also agree that it will always be the Sears Tower. I grew up in Wisconsin and cannot think of it any other way. Plus I can never for the life of me remember what it is supposed to be now.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great rest of the week!

What a fantastic idea for a TTT! I have read two series set where I live, J.A. Jance’s Joanna Brady and the Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead. The only problem I have with books set where I live, is when the places mentioned are wrong, it makes me crazy.
