TOP TEN TUESDAY
July 5, 2016

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic was Top Ten Truly Underrated Books… aka books with less than 2000 ratings!

The term “underrated” has become so subjective nowadays that it’s hard to even say what it means. I’ve always felt that underrated meant books that didn’t receive enough attention or what attention they did receive didn’t quite live up to how I felt about them. I’m loving this topic for Top Ten Tuesday because this really puts the term into perspective by using ONLY books that have less than 2000 ratings on Goodreads. Surprisingly, I had a lot of books with under 2000 ratings that I didn’t expect! I tried not to use ones that were just released since I’m assuming that number just needs some time to grow but there was one that was a smaller title that I’m hoping will get more attention too. Check out my list below!

top ten underrated books

  • 26 KISSES by Anna Michels | 26 KISSES is a super cute contemporary novel and I just loved every second of it. It was the perfect summery read and a great lighter book which was perfect for me!
  • LOOP by Karen Akins | Okay, total fail. I still need to read the sequel to this (sorry, Andi. It’s been like a year since I borrowed your book (this is why you don’t loan me books)) but I really did have so much fun with LOOP! Time travel with fun, snark, and banter. It was so cute and a really just a fun take on time travel.
  • THE CHAPEL WARS by Lindsey Leavitt | This was one I was surprised to find with so few ratings! It’s been out since 2014 and Lindsey Leavitt is a pretty regular name in YA. I’ve read a few of her books and really loved them all. She may not be as big as some other names out there but any new release from her is an auto-read from me!
  • THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH by Courtney C. Stevens | I was surprised to see this one under 2000 ratings as well! I had heard so many good things and requested an ARC of it because of that. I guess it goes to show you how small our blogging community can be sometimes (even though other times it feels huge). There was such buzz about it amongst my friends that I figured it was pretty big!
  • THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN by Sarah Fine | This book took me just a little bit to get into but holy moly, the ending was fabulous and I was left craving so much more. I really enjoyed it over all and loved the ice vs fire theme!
  • NANTUCKET RED by Leila Howland | NANTUCKET BLUE is still one of my favorite contemporary novels and I loved NANTUCKET RED even more. The books are just so relatable and I see so much of myself in main character Cricket.
  • FAULT LINE by Christa Desir | FAULT LINE is a heavy book but it was so good. It deals with rape and how not only the victim is affected but how everyone around them is affected by it too. FAULT LINE is pretty powerful and was so well done.
  • LOCK & MORI by Heather W. Petty | I thought this was such a fun adaptation of Sherlock Holmes! It’s modern day, a little contemporary, but mostly mystery. Heather W. Petty did a great job!
  • WHEN JOSS MET MATT by Ellie Cahill | This is Ellie Cahill’s first new adult novel (aka Liz Czukas if you know her from YA) and I loved, loved, loved it! It was so adorable and real and just plain fun. It’s my favorite new adult novel that I’ve read so far.
  • DISSONANCE by Erica O’Rourke | WHY? Why is this book under 2000 ratings!? It was absolutely fabulous. Parallel universes, music, romance, twists, and Chicago (that was a bonus for me). Erica is also a lovely person and it’s so nice to spend time with her when I see her at events! This book needs to be in more people’s hands.

What are some of your favorite underrated books? Which of these books have you read or have been meaning to read??

I LOVED when Joss Met Matt. I read it when the weather was still gross here in PA before spring and it was a perfect light read. I also have Nantucket Red, but I havent had a chance to read it yet. Its in my TBR stack for this month though – seems like the perfect summer/pool read. I’m a sucker for light contemp reads in the summer. I cant get enough.

I really want to read Lock and Mori. I think Sherlock adaptations/re-tellings are a lot of fun! This is a good way of describing underrated books. There are so many titles I think deserve more recognition though!

I’m excited to see Dissonance on here! I picked up a beautiful hardback of the original cover this year (so sad I can’t get a matching cover now!), and I’m really looking forward to reading it! R xx

Ah this is such a great topic for a TTT post! Lately, I’ve been noticing that there are so many great books with few ratings and reviews so it’s great that you’re recommending a bunch of books that don’t have as many ratings. I haven’t read most of the books you’ve recommended but I’ve heard of a few. I have read The Imposter Queen – or well actually I tried to read it and ended up DNFing. I didn’t find it that interesting but I think it was a “it’s-me-not-you” kind of thing in this case.
