Casting Call [7] – The Body Finder

Welcome to Casting Call, hosted by Tee @ YA Crush, Sandie @ Teen Lit Rocks, Candice @ The Grown-Up YA, Dixie & Maggie @ Gone Pecan, and of course, me too! Each Friday we’ll take a couple characters from our favorite books and discuss who we’d think would be perfect for the roles! And of course this gives us the opportunity as well to rehash our favorite parts of the story and swoon over all those dream literary crushes of ours.
Casting Call is now a weekly meme for you to join in on the fun! Just check out the schedule at any one of the host blogs and join us on Fridays!

First up this week, we’re casting for The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting! If you haven’t read the book, here’s a quick summary from Goodreads:

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her “power” to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world… and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he’s claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay’s intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she’s falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer… and becoming his prey herself.

We are so excited to officially introduce this as a meme for everyone to participate in now! Since we’re all casting, we’re no longer breaking up the cast amongst up. Now each week, all of us will do the full cast of characters of our choice – and we look forward to seeing your picks as well!!

Lily Collins as Violet

Violet: I wanted the girl who played Violet to be pretty and kind of seem delicate but she’s really a fighter underneath. She had to be someone who was likeable and had a good sense of humor too. My ultimtate choice? Lily Collins (who I do NOT see as Clary, by the way).

Seriously…. great job growing up!

Jay: If there is ANY actor out there to play Jay, I’d pick Shia LaBeouf. Why, you ask? What other actor do you know of that was totally unattractive goofball and turned into mega hottie? He’s like the Cinderella story of puberty. Anyway – It’s not how I originally pictured Jay, but I couldn’t get that comparison out of my head how Jay used to be just normal, average, totally under the radar and then all the girls couldn’t keep away.

Robert Knepper

“The Serial Killer”: There are two guys I would like to cast as a creepy serial killer. Actually there are more than two, but still. I’ll stick with these guys for now. I’m going with Robert Knepper or Chris Cooper. I can’t imagine either of these guys as a good guy… EVER. They both kind of creep me out… Especially Chris Cooper. Okay, so MAYBE Chris Cooper isn’t as scary in The Muppets… but still. A super-creepy villain nonetheless.

Chris Cooper – Villain extraordinaire!

Do you agree with my choices? Who would you have put in these roles? And as for every week, be sure to check out everyone else’s choices! Catch who they picked and show them some comment love too!

And don’t forget, this is a weekly meme for you to participate in too, so link up over at Teen Lit Rocks so we can see who your choices are!

Ooh, I love that you cast the serial killer — great picks, although I also love Chris when he’s being “good” (he’s such a good actor). Seeing Shia naked kinda ruined my ability to consider him a teen, so I don’t think I could think of him as Jay 😉

Thank you 🙂 No, I actually JUST finished The Body Finder so I haven’t read any other ones yet but I can’t wait to get to them! Ahhh I can’t wait to be creeped out haha.

Love Lily Collins! She’s perfect. I know how you feel about Jay. He’s a tough one. That’s why when I cast the review originally, I went to D and K and asked for their help. I like Shia. And I think he’s grown up to be pretty cute. And I have to say, your killers creep me the heck out. Chris Copper is a good actor. I always love him

Oh, I really like your choice for Lily Collins as Violet. I really like that choice, and not I can’t picture Violet without picturing Lily. I am holding out judgment for Lily as Clary, though. I am really excited for TMI movie, though, and hope it turns out well.

I really like Shia, but I am not sure I picture him as Jay. But if they ever made a movie, and he was cast, I would be okay with that. Actually, I am thinking of Shia in Disturbia (totally like that movie!!! – sort of based on Rear Window), and now I am thinking Shia might just be a good Jay.

      Disturbia!!! Loved it 🙂
I know – Confession? Not really how I pictured Jay either – But it was just that comparison from geek to hunk that I couldn’t get out of my head. I pictured Jay as much taller and not quite looking like Shia but another confession? I’m so bad with teen actors that I just picked who I knew for this one. It was a crazy week and I didn’t really have time to do tons of research this go around lol

Truthfully that’s not how I pictured Jay either, but I couldn’t get that geek to total hottie idea out of my head haha. I pictured Jay as much taller, but I was swamped this week so I went with the first guy that stuck 🙂
