Book and a Beverage Ginger from Greads

1 Name & Blog Name: Ginger @ GReads!
Tell us a little about your blog! I created GReads! in 2010, way before I even knew what book blogging was.  I loved to read and didn’t have an outlet to discuss the books I experienced, so I turned to the Internet and that’s how I discovered this wonderful community of readers.  For the first two years I mostly read Young Adult, reviewing anything from contemporary to paranormal to dystopian.  Then I realized my true love lies with contemporaries and I started to branch out to reading more Adult titles as well.  My blog is sort of known for its affection for YA contemporary.  I’m really drawn to this type of genre and can never seem to get enough of it.  Now that I have been doing this for four years, I’ve learned to not put so much pressure on the experience and just enjoy what comes my way.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) In four years, there’s been quite a bit.  I’ve really enjoyed my summer feature that I created two years ago called Sweet Summertime Reads.  I spend the entire summer highlighting summer contemporary reads & this past year I took it on a roadtrip, welcoming guest bloggers to share their favorite summer reads.  It was a lot of fun & something I hope to continue this next summer.
Got anything special coming up we should know about? As much as I love my contemporary reads, I am attempting to branch out and read more fantasy YA, too.  I read Graceling last year and absolutely LOVED it.  Be on the look out for more fantasy YA titles on the blog in 2015!

Whatcha reading? Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) The author, Jessi Kirby, actually sent me this ARC.  I’ve been a long time fan of her writing, ever since her debut Moonglass.  I had the opportunity to meet her a few years ago while she was book touring for her second novel, In Honor, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since.  She is such a lovely person, with a very generous heart.  It meant so much to me that she’d share her latest beauty with me & my, oh my, is this novel GORGEOUS!
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? I chose this book as my first read of 2015 because it is also my most anticipated read of 2015.  Seeing that it’s also my first 5 star read of the year, I had to feature it for Book and a Beverage! .
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? This book has its own steady pace, telling a very unique story about how grief can consume you if you allow it to.  But it’s also a story about learning to live, even when your heart struggles to beat, and your lungs almost forget how to breathe.  I was completely wrapped up in this novel, for its beauty in the scenery, and even among the ugly shades of grief.  I definitely recommend this novel, and everything else Jessi Kirby has written.  beverage Whatcha drinking? Hot cocoa — it’s a mint chocolate flavor that my #OTSPSecretSister sent me for Christmas 🙂
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? During the chilly months (yes, it’s actually cold down here in Texas right now!) I prefer something warm such as my hot cocoa or coffee.  But when it’s warm (or insanely hot from about May to October), I prefer an iced blueberry lemonade or a cold Dr Pepper.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! Of all time? I have to go with a cherry limeade from Sonic.  It’s the perfect quencher on a hot summer day, or when you’re needing a sweet treat in the middle of the afternoon.

bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Breakfast Served Anytime by Sarah Combs, Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler, Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? Holding a book in my hands after I’ve seen it go from ideas, to scattered stories, to a very put together plot, and eventually into a finished product.  I’ve only seen this happen a few times and it still makes me so proud of the writer and what they’ve accomplished.
Anything else you’d like to share? Thanks so much Brittany for having me!

Thanks, Ginger! Wow, I have not read any of your top recommendations yet!!! But I do have Fixing Delilah now 😉 So excited for you to dig into more fantasy too! YAY!!!

That hot chocolate looks amazing! Perfect marshmallow ratio 😀 And OMG I love the cherry slushes from Sonic! There isn’t one anywhere near me but there’s one in my husband’s hometown and when we were dating I’d always get one with him! YA Contemporary is newer to me the past couple years, and I tend to love the fluffier varieties but a good review can definitely sway me! Will have to check out some of your recs 🙂 I have Golden on my immediate TBR, excited to read that!

You got me excited to read this book. Well more excited than I was before, and I was pretty excited. 🙂 Oh and now I really want hot chocolate, so thanks for that.

This is such a fun feature and Ginger is awesome! Contemporar is also my fave genre, so it’s something I love about her blog and have ever since I started following it. I might look to sign-up later on–if all the spots don’t get filled, that is 😉
