TOP TEN TUESDAY
June 30, 2015

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic was a freebie so I chose:
Top Ten Books I’ve Read in 2015 (So Far)

2015 has been a good reading year for me so far! One thing I really wanted to attempt this year was to pick up books I really wanted to read no matter when their pub date was (either way out there or backlist) and I also wanted to attempt being much pickier in my requests and what books I kept on my TBR. I think it’ s been working out really well so far because inevitably I’ve had some DNFs but it’s not a large amount and I’ve really been avoiding two to three star books. The majority of my reads have been four stars and some five with very few three-stars and surprisingly only one two-star book (though I usually end up DNFing before I get to two stars).

Here are my top ten books so far:

  1. The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss: I’ll group these two together because they’re the same series and I read them nearly back-to-back. I absolutely fell in love with this fantasy series from Patrick Rothfuss… and now I understand people’s hardships of waiting for book three!
  2. Steelheart, Mitosis, and Firefight by Brandon Sanderson: Again, part of the same series, so into a group they go! I loved Sanderson’s Mistborn series and absolutely fell in love with his YA novels about superheroes who are actually the villains.
  3. Harmonic and Resonance by Erica O’Rourke: I LOVED Dissonance when it came out last year and quickly dove into the novella and sequel this spring! These books are just so much fun and the science is so cool. Add in some fantastic characters and I was just falling in love all over the place.
  4. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven: I knew this book was going to be special before I started it but it just hit me in the feels and totally broke me.
  5. The Storyspinner by Becky Wallace: This fantasy just felt so refreshing and new. I loved the characters, shipped some of them REALLY HARD, and can’t wait to get more of this world!
  6. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway: This book was really something special. There are some amazing relationships in here (and many different kinds) plus all kinds of feels. Feels galore, friends.
  7. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman: It’s hard to explain but this book just felt like “home”. It was a new book to me but I totally felt like this writing style was where I was meant to be!
  8. The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch: This is the third book in the series and things are REALLY starting to go down! It wasn’t my favorite of the series so far but that’s like saying I have a least favorite Harry Potter book (*cough*Chamber of Secrets*cough*). They’re all amazing.
  9. The 4.5 star books: I had a lot of 4.5 star reads too that didn’t quite get rounded up to five stars! Six of Crows, I’ll Meet You There, My Life Next Door, and Devoted were some that floated between 4.25 – 4.5 stars!
  10. Re-reads: I’ve been doing a lot of re-reads of my favorite books too! Of course I will always give five stars to Anna and the French Kiss, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Cinder.

What have your best reads of 2015 been? Do we share any of the same??

Couldn’t agree more about Emmy & Oliver! It really hits you right in the feels. There are a couple books on this list I’ve been meaning to read, namely Seraphina and Patrick Rothfuss’ novels.

Anna and the French Kiss is always a five star read for me, too! I reread it often and it never loses the magic.

I’m looking forward to Calamity next year! I wonder how the whole series will end – I’m a bit scared to see who’s going to die though O_O I’ve heard that Sanderson can be brutal?

Emmy & Oliver made it on my list as well! There’s something so unique and beautiful about that book <3

I can count on one hand the books that I’ve re-read over and over, usually right after reading them the first time, but there are so many I’d love to re-read if I found the time. I’ve seen All the Bright Places a couple of times today on people’s list, so maybe I’ll get to it one day this year.

I reread a few of my favorites this year, but was hesitant on including them in today’s topic. I went ahead and put Along for the Ride on there though. I mean, once a five star read, always a five star read — right??!

I’ve been WAY pickier too. I want those 4 and 5 star reads, so I’ve been trying to be careful about what I buy/request.
Love your list! Emmy & Oliver, The Storyspinner, I’ll Meet You There, My Life Next Door, and Cinder are all books I love. I hope to read Dissonance this year!

I need to give The Storyspinner another try! I liked but but then my library check out ran out and I didn’t finish. And YES rereads always get 5 stars! I’ve read Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Ella Enchanted, Meant to Be, and the Raven Cycle. Can’t wait for your Lunar Chronicles reread 🙂 Some of my favorites so far have been Every Word, Simon, Grounded, The Start of Me and You, ACOTAR, Rook, In the Time of Dragon Moon, and Lion Heart. It’s been a good reading year, I agree with what you said about being pickier and reading what you want! Trying to give myself more freedom that way 🙂

I have Steelheart but haven’t read it yet! I do hope to get to it this year. I actually haven’t read any of Brandon Sanderson’s books yet. I just got Mistborn and look forward to reading it!

I’m really excited to read Harmonic and Resonance. I’ve been saving them for this month! I was on the fence about picking up The Storyspinner but think I need to move it up on my list. Great titles 🙂

I love your list! In particular your top 2 made me very happy! And The Storyspinner which also made my top five. So many amazing fantasy reads, so little time. Speaking of little time, I still need to read the Gentleman Bastards series. One day I will through caution to the wind and bust my TBR with it.

The Storyspinner is on my list too. That one was so well done. I loved SoC and I’ve been really trying to limit what I read to those I REALLY want to read but I must admit…sometimes I take on ones I’m meh about. I don’t know why I do this. Great list!

If I had written this list last year, we would probably have exactly the same things! I chose not to include sequels, otherwise Firefight would probably have made it into my list too! Your rereads are some of my favourites too, especially Cinder and Harry Potter. I absolutely adored Seraphina and desparately need to get my hands on Emmy and Oliver and The Storyspinner, after seeing them here!

I loved All the Bright Places and Devoted as well. And your re-reads: all Harry Potter and Lunar Chronicle books are so good. I just got Anna and the French Kiss from the library because I’ve been hearing so much about it. I’ll have to check out some of the other books you mentioned.

Okay, I absolutely love your list. I’ve had The Name of the Wind on my shelves for a few months, but haven’t gotten around to actually reading it. And I’m going to read The Republic of Thieves soon! I just finished Red Seas Under Red Skies, and Scott Lynch is a genius. I really want to read The Storyspinner too, and I can’t even wait for Six of Crows…

    Great list!
