Top Ten Tuesday – May 29, 2012: Top Ten Books Written in the Past 10 Years That I Hope Are Still Being Read in 30 Years

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish, is “Top Ten Books Written in the past 10 Years That I Hope Are Still Being Read in 30 Years”. This should be an easy one! So many good books that I’ve read in the past ten years. Hard to believe how long ago that actually extends! I was 15! So here we go, in chronological order from oldest to most recent… My favorite books from 2002-2012.

10.  To The Nines (Stephanie Plum #9) by Janet Evanovich (2003) – Had to get my favorite series on here, and this was one of my favorite Stephanie Plum installments. Janet always keeps me laughing!

9. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Milennium #1) by Steig Larsson (2005) – I didn’t even finish the movie. The book was excellent and to be honest, the movie was just boring and lacked the suspense I was captured in by the book. Sometimes the book is just plain better than a movie, and I think this was one of them. The book just had me turning page after page and I didn’t want to put it down!

8. Size 12 is Not Fat (Heather Wells #1) by Meg Cabot (2005) – The Heather Wells series made me a Meg Cabot fan. Former pop-singer turned college dorm worker with an unofficial detective act on the side. Add in a splash of lusty crush and a whole lot of comedy!

Harry Potter 6 book cover

7. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (Harry Potter #6) by J.K. Rowling (2005) – Even after all this time, I am forever a Harry Potter fan! The Half Blood Prince was my favorite book of the series, and I’m sure everyone will still be reading this in 30 years. I think this is a series that will be timeless.

6. Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen (2006) – I actually read this book in anticipation of the movie. I always like to read the book before a movie comes out… And then I never saw the movie. Oops. Even still, the book really got a hold on me and it was a great story. Since it was already set in the past, it shouldn’t really show age or get dated as the years roll by.

5. The Spellman Files (The Spellmans #1) by Lisa Lutz (2007) – This is another one of my favorite series because it’s just so wacky. I love Isabel as the rebellious daughter throughout the series, even when she’s in her 30s. Her family of private investigators leaves nothing private as far as family goes, even to the extent of constantly spying on each other. It’s even written in a quirky way with part narrative as well as making lists, keeping logs, recorded transcripts, and footnotes directed straight at the reader.

4. The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1) by Suzanne Collins (2008) – I’m still in love with this book. I think I finished it in a day the first time I read it and this is what really got me into the YA dystopia genre. Idid see the movie for this book and it was extremely exciting… But the book is still way better. The descriptions and Katniss’s inner monologue make things that much more exciting and suspenseful.

3. The Help by Kathryn Stockett (2009) – Another book I read before the movie came out and I have to say, both were great! Of course the movie isn’t exactly the same, but the message and the characters really come out in both and I loved it!

2. If I Stay (If I Stay #1) by Gayle Forman (2009) –  I just recently finished this book (review here) and I looooved it. It was so touching, so mature, and so real. It was such a well put together account of Mia’s life as well as life that continued after the family’s car accident and it was really moving.

1. Delirium (Delirium #1) by Lauren Oliver (2011) – This quickly became another one of my favorite series. A great YA & dystopia story and reading the second installment, Pandemonium, made me that much more anxious for the third book!
