30 Days of Books: Day 3

Continuing on with the “30 Days of Books” challenge (thanks to Vyki @ On The Shelf, which she got from For Those Who Live to Read) – Each day there is a different book-related topic or question to post about (ie. best/worst/favorite-type deals), the list of which I’m linking back to On The Shelf. Onto day number three!

30 Days of Books: Day #3

The best book you’ve read in the past twelve months…

That’s soooo difficult! I honestly cannot choose just one, so I’m cheating and I’m going to go with two of the best books I’ve read within the past year. By “best”, I’m basing this on the books that simply “wowed” me and left me with one of those feelings where I keep thinking about the book long after I’ve finished reading it. And as much as I’ve felt like I’ve been a big mystery reader, so many YA books have really been surprising me as truly beautifully written and quite connectable books. Up until about the past year or so, I didn’t really think I’d be that interested in YA due to an age gap, but I’ve definitely found that this is far from the case! So without futherther ado…

Delirium by Lauren Oliver – If there is one book I’ve been recommending non-stop, it’s this book. It’s dystopia (which I love, but you know that). It’s Lena’s quiet strength. It’s the relationship that grows between Lena and Alex. It’s the friendship between Lena and Hana. It’s Lena’s devotion to the mother she once knew. It’s a story about love where no one else believes. I just loved it. In a world where they strive to wipe out love in fear of the crazy things it makes people do, Lena learns what a powerful force it can be and how great it is. I just loved the writing and felt like the story was so powerful. Love it!!!

If I Stay - Gayle Forman

If I Stay by Gayle Forman – Wow. Just wow. This book really blew me away. I think the thing that really drew me in was how incredibly beautiful the writing was. I felt the adolescence and maturity of Mia’s life all at the same time. Mia and her family were such dynamic characters and I loved all of the emotion throughout the story. I really felt everything and took it all in.  It was such a bittersweet story and absolutely touching. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Unfortunetaly I wasn’t as impressed with If I Stay, but I did like Where She Went better for some reason. Delirium was really good and it was one I was considering for mine 🙂 Can’t wait to start Pandemonium!
