Top Ten Tuesday – September 25, 2012: Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!

This Week’s Topic is: Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished (because either you didn’t like them, you just have procrastinated, etc.)

Yes! Okay, this is a great topic. Let’s talk about this – And once again, I’m cheating. Separated by reasons I haven’t finished:

I haven’t finished this series because… I love it and I’m stretching it out:

1. The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich: I actually only started this series recently – during the great Groundhog’s Day blizzard in Chicago in 2011 – and I own the whole series (except for the one that JUST came out (because I own them all in paperback and I have to wait to buy that one so they’ll all be the same)) but I’m afraid once I catch up, it’ll leave a whole in my heart and then I’ll have to wait for more Stephanie, or God forbid the day when the series ends for good! Nope. I’m spacing them out. I think #14 is up next.

2. The In Death series by J.D. Robb: Okay, so there are TONS of books in this series. I have no idea how many by now, but I know it’s over 20, maybe even over 30? I’ve liked each and every one (some more than others), but I’m spacing them out in between my other reads because I’m in no hurry to catch up! The books are in the future so it’ll never be outdated 🙂

3. The Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampires series by Charlaine Harris: Just taking my time! I’m actually kind of reading them as the TV series comes out, unintentionally. It doesn’t really matter either way because it’s not like they’re even related anymore!

I haven’t finished this series because… I’m waiting for the rest to be published… ANXIOUSLY:

1. The Delirium trilogy by Lauren Oliver: Holy cow. After Pandemonium, I do NOT want to wait for Requiem to come out! But… Of course, I have to! I was in awe from Delirium and the ending of Pandemonium really just leads us right into the last book of the series.

2. The Chemical Garden trilogy by Lauren DeStefano: I’m not AS anxiously waiting for Sever, but I am still very excited for it! I really loved Wither and although Fever was a little less than what I’d hoped, I’m really looking forward to the last book to come out!

3. The Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth: Okay, so I haven’t read Insurgent yet… But I can still anticipate the third book, right?

I haven’t finished this series because… I’m behind the times and I just started it!

1. The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead: I just finished book 3 (Shadow Kiss) and I am QUITE loving this series! I’m trying to catch up on it because I’m so wrapped up in it!!

2. The Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness: Just finished the FIRST book in this series and it was so interesting!! I’ve heard that the second book is the best out of the three so I’m really excited to pick it up.

3. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare: I’ve only read book 1 so far and was mildly disappointed with it. I think I expected a lot more, but now that the world is established, I’m really hoping the story line will pick up in the following books.

4. The Maze Runner series by James Dashner: I’m actually reading the third book right now and I’ll get around to the prequel sometime eventually!

I haven’t finished this series because… I lost interest…

1. The Hannah Swensen mysteries by Joanne Fluke: I think I stopped on book 7 or 8 when the love triangle from book 1 STILL hadn’t resolved even a little bit. No progress at all. And I heard that it still doesn’t go anywhere in the rest of the books that are published. Sadly, I just couldn’t take it anymore.

2. The Jane Kelly mysteries by Nancy Bush: I accidentally read these out of order and read the second one first and the first one second (confused yet?). I actually really ended up liking the second book and so I grabbed the first to catch up and was just totally bored! I decided not to continue on.

3. The Wollie Shelley mystery series by Harley Jane Kozak: The first book was super cute and fun, but the second was just totally unrelated and not as interesting. I gave up on it fairly quickly since I had a growing pile of TBRs!

I haven’t finished this series because… I just didn’t care for the first book…

1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi: Due to popular demand, I MAY try this one again, but I was in no good place to read it the first time around. We’ll see if maybe my opinion will change the second time around.

2. Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden: I don’t know why but this book just never really got going for me. I felt kind of lost throughout the whole thing and the exciting parts just weren’t that exciting. I was a little disappointed!

Okay, that’s WAY more than 10. So…. oops?

Oh my gosh Brittany, I totally forgot about The Chemical Garden series. I loved the first book too and have somehow forgotten to keep going. I guess I should wait at this point. I loved Shatter Me, but I totally get what you’re saying. That’s what happened to me with The Wolves of Mercy Falls and I wonder if I was in the wrong mood when I read the first book because how can I disagree with that many people? So then I say I’ll try again but come one, we both know I won’t. 🙂

Haha same here! I say I’ll try Shatter Me again, but I really shouldn’t, actually. There was a reason I didn’t enjoy it and I don’t think that will change.
I actually didn’t like the Wolves of Mercy Falls either. I read Shiver and it was okay, but it wasn’t worth my time to keep reading. Eh, we’re all going to have our own opinions!

I’m completely with you on the “Shatter Me series”. I was disappointed in “Shatter Me”, but I’ve decided to go ahead and give “Unravel em” a go and see what I think. A lot of people are insistent that I’ll love it so I guess it’s worth a try, right?

Oh, In Death – I have read the first Three!! But I have decided they are my go-tos when I don’t feel like reading anything else. Nice to have that there. And I just have ONE MORE Vampire Academy (without going into the bloodlines or whatever the spin off is called, will get there eventually but I need closure on Rose & Dimitri). Great list 🙂

It’s over thirty I know this for the In Death books. There are just so many! I need to keep reading them.

Most of my books I haven’t got to where they are finished. I read too many series! Great picks. 🙂

Seriously, it’s okay that you’ve waited a little while with the Chaos Walking trilogy, but don’t wait much longer! I waited a good while between 1 and 2 of the series, but the second I finished with 2 I HAD to go to 3. I don’t think I can say enough how much I love this series! I’m totally waiting in anticipation for Requiem and Sever, just to finish the series really. I think they’re both gonna rock! I haven’t read any of the Stephanie Plum novels or the JD Robb ones, but I want to one day! Great list; hope you get to finishing some of these series!

    Especially Chaos Walking…. 😉

I am STILL waiting for Pandemonium on audibook from the library. I talked to the lbirarian yesterday though and they are putting the order in again, so hopefully it will be arriving soon. I bought the 1st and 4th books for Vampire Academy yesterday. The store didn’t have the 2nd and 3rd yet, but at least I can read the 1st, so I will get to see how much I like that series. I like how you posted 15 series, but kept them at 1. 2. 3. back to 1. 2. 3. makes it less noticable that you went over, lol. I’ve been pretty vocal about how much I didn’t like Shatter Me or Insurgent… I don’t think I could finish those series if I tried! You have a bunch of series on here I’ve been meaning to start, but haven’t… namely Stephanie Plum and the Maze Runner. One of these days….

I enjoyed Insurgent even more than Divergent, but my daughter completely disagrees. I can’t wait to see what you think of Insurgent. Also have you read This Dark Endeavor? I didn’t think I would like it and ended up loving it, the characterization is wonderful.

I wasn’t a big fan of the Mortal Instruments either, but I did like the Infernal Devices, sorta of a prequel, more like a sister series to it. I ended up disappointed in Sookie Stackhouse books, I feel like she ran out of ideas & Sookie just got more skeezy. I love VA! Its one of the best series that each book was consistently great!

I’m with you anxiously waiting for the next Chemical Garden, Delirium, and Divergent book. I’ve heard good things about the Stephanie Plum series but I think I’m too intimidated by the # of books to start it now. The Chaos Walking trilogy is one I’ve procrastinated on too, but I’m glad to hear you liked the first book.

I agree with all 3 in your to be published sections, I can’t wait for those to be continued! I haven’t read many of the other ones you listed, and with the Mortal Instruments, I do need to catch up with that someday. I don’t doubt that I have many series that need to be finished!

Don’t bother with Shatter Me. I kept skipping ahead to see if it would get better and it didn’t. I finally gave up and I NEVER give up. Save yourself the heartache and read US Magazine. The writing it SO much better. 🙂

Don’t worry! After I finish this round of library books, I’m planning on the next batch being books to keep my series going! I’m tired of being in the middle of 50 series at one time lol

Oh my gosh, I love Stephanie Plum! I can actually remember quite clearly reading the first book, One for the Money, back in 2002. I had read all the Sue Grafton books (up to P at the time) and needed something else to read. I wanted a few books to bring to college (my freshman year!) and I had heard about the number mysteries. I bought the first one, with every intention of waiting until I got to college before I started reading it. Less than one week before I left for college, I read the first paragraph of the first book and was hooked! On the drive to college I was reading book three. I think my roommate thought I was crazy, because I was devouring all the SP books available, and LOLing all the time in my room. She kept giving me these weird looks. But, she eventually ended up reading them too 🙂

What did you think of the money?

I liked the movie all right, but I knew I’d be a little disappointed. The books are just SO GOOD that I didn’t think I’d like any movie as much vs movies like Harry Potter which are awesome to see on screen for the action and see the magic. One For the Money was enjoyable, but I still like Stephanie better in books!

Brittany, I hate to tell you but the In Death series is well over 30 books. The 35th was recently published. I’ve read most of them but the 1st is still my favourite.
