The Deja Vu Review [8]

The Deja Vu Review is a new Sunday feature with mini-reviews from books I’ve read before I began my blog at The Book Addict’s Guide! Since I’ve been reading my whole life and only started my blog back in April of 2012, this is my opportunity to revisit some older books and share some mini-reviews of those that didn’t quite make it into the blog spotlight after the initial read.

This Week’s Topic: A book from your favorite author

The Boy Next Door (Boy, #1)The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Comments: I’ve always loved Meg! As you may know, I’m a HUGE fan of her adult works (Insatiable aside – That’s a story for a different day), the Heather Wells series especially a favorite of mine. The Boy Next Door was an interesting read for me because it’s written as a series of emails, notices, and letters without any actual narration. I thought it was a neat concept and although it’s not one of my top favorites of Meg’s, I still highly enjoyed it and was intrigued by the different style.

Delirium (Delirium, #1)Delirium by Lauren Oliver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
My Original GR Review (12/3/11): I thought I was going to enjoy this book, but I was surprised at how much! I’m fascinated by any books that are based on a utopian/dystopian society, so I was drawn to it right off the bat, but it’s got everything I love in books. Mystery, love, intrigue, suspense, action… Once I got into the meat of the plot, I couldn’t put it down. Pretty awesome. Really can’t wait to read the next book!
Comments: I’m definitely still in love with the Delirium trilogy! I absolutely love Lauren Oliver’s writing in these books. It’s romantic, somewhat poetic without getting to cheesy or overdone, and I loved the story that it told. I’d love to reread this one if I ever have the time! Someday… This is one of those books that’s staying on my shelf forever!

I’m on my iPhone and still trying to learn how to manage it so you’ll have to forgive me if you are my write anything funny haha 🙂 but I my god I absolutely loved delirium it was one of my favourite dystopian utopian reads of all time. The all the attention the dystopian genre is now getting it can be hard to find a good gripping dystopian read and delirium definitely was one! What most intrigued me was not only the fantastic plot but the fact there was no love triangle ( okay in pandemonium things sort of changed there but still) I absolutely loved Alex and I’m rooting for them in the third and finale book. I wasn’t completely sold on Julian in pandemonium I felt everything was too quick with them personally yet I could be biased since I am team Alex

I totally agree! Delirium was one of the first Utopias/dystopias I ever read and I LOVED IT. I agree – I’m totally team Alex. I was upset with the whole turn with Julian but I think it’ll go back to Alex I hope!! I am dying up read Requiem!!!!

I’ve actually never read anything by Meg Cabot. Is that crazy? But I read Delirium this year- I thought it was good, but the world-building could have used a little bit more work. I actually have Pandemonium on loan from the library that I should be reading soon. This is a really great meme theme, and I think maybe I will participate next week. 🙂

Thank you! I hope to see you next week 🙂
Well if you ever do pick up a Meg Cabot book I hope you enjoy!! I feel like most people do 🙂 she’s really funny and the books are just nice an easy to read.
True, I could agree that there could have been a bit more world building but I just fell in love with the writing! It just totally captured me. Hope you enjoy Pandemonium! It’s actually pretty different than Delirium but still really enjoyable. If its more world building you’re looking for, I think you’ll find that in Pandemonium too!

I have only read one Meg Cabot book so far and it was an ok read but I wasn’t super impressed, but I am going to read more by her before I made a decision on if I like her or not. Delirium was pretty good and hopefully Pandemonium will finally be in at my library soon. Hopefully next week I will be able to participate in this meme finally. The past two weeks have been rough and my blog was a tad slow. I have been slammed both at work and at home!

Which Meg book did you read? There was only one I didn’t care for and that was Insatiable.
Hope you enjoy Pandemonium when you can get to it! It’s different than the first book but still really good!!

I really enjoyed The Boy Next Door. It was very funny, and the characters were really likable. Well, all but that one. I don’t know if I would have liked this book (and the whole boy series) as much as I did if it were by someone other than Cabot. What I mean is, reading the whole story through emails, voice mail, etc., sometimes left me wanting a little more information than could be given this way, but since Meg Cabot is such a funny writer, I did like this series immensely. Have you read the other two in the series: Boy Meets Girl and Every Boy’s Got One. I really liked those ones, too. Especially Every Boy’s Got One.

I totally agree!! If it hadn’t been Meg, I don’t know if I would have liked it as much, but she really made it work and I had a lot of fun with it! And yep, I’ve read the whole series! I’ve read all of Meg’s “adult” books, but still haven’t read any of her YA stuff (including THe Princess Diaries.. oops)

I’ve read some of Meg Cabot’s adult books, but not all. Not that I have read all her YA books either. I do like the Princess Diaries, but I think my fav teen books of hers are All-American Girl – seriously this one is too funny. All the top ten lists are hilarious. Oh and I also really liked Avalon High. Oh, and Teen Idol. Okay, what Meg Cabot book haven’t I loved? 🙂

BTW, I just read Heist Society, and am seriously hoping you guys (all you bloggers who do the Casting Call) do a casting call post on it. I kept thinking that Heist Society would make a good movie. 🙂
