Welcome to Casting Call, hosted by Tee @ YA Crush, Sandie @ Teen Lit Rocks, Candice @ The Grown-Up YA, Dixie & Maggie @ Gone Pecan, and of course, me too! Each Friday we’ll take a couple characters from our favorite books and discuss who we’d think would be perfect for the roles! And of course this gives us the opportunity as well to rehash our favorite parts of the story and swoon over all those dream literary crushes of ours.
First up this week, we’re casting for Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins! If you haven’t read the book, here’s a quick summary from Goodreads and a link to my original review:
Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris – until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he’s taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home. As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near – misses end with the French kiss Anna – and readers – have long awaited?
My original review: Anna and the French Kiss from 10/8/12
Anna Oliphant: I took a few liberties on this one, but I couldn’t help but picture Anna as Anna Kendrick. She doesn’t have the gap in her teeth, but we can put a blonde streak in her hair. I just thought her personality fit Anna Oliphant so perfectly. I know she’s way super short for Anna Oliphant’s character too, but I don’t care. I absolutely adore Anna Kendrick and I think her personality is just perfect for the role.
Etienne St. Clair: This was a tough one. I thought about Tom Sturridge because I really liked him Pirate Radio… but I also felt like he comes off as kind of a jerk. I don’t know why Ed Westwick is better as my choice since he’s kind of an ass in Gossip Girl (which is what I really know him from), but as good as he is playing a baddie on Gossip Girl, I think he could be a good St. Clair. I like his attitude and I could definitely picture him in a relationship with Anna and all the joking around and the teasing. And he has really good hair.
Meredith: I totally pictured Meredith as Leven Ramblin (seen on Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, the Hunger Games). She’s blonde with an athletic build, blonde curly hair, and I totally pictured her as Leven Ramblin right from the start. Again, maybe not as tall as Meredith is supposed to be but apparently the rest of my cast is all short so it’s all good with me! I think she’d be a perfect Meredith.
Do you agree with my choices? Who would you have put in these roles? And as for every week, be sure to check out everyone else’s choices! Catch who they picked and show them some comment love too!

Oh my gosh, Anna Kendrick would be an amazing Anna Oliphant. I think Anna is a pretty good actress, and I bet she would rock the part!
I only know Ed Westwick from the few Gossip Girl episodes I saw during the first season. I can only picture him sneering, though, and I don’t think St. Clair is one to sport a sneer. But I really can’t say a thing as to his acting ability. He could very well dominate the part of St. Clair.
Oh my gosh, it would be so much fun is Anna was made into a movie!! 🙂
I think Anna is really cute and she has tht fun personality! I don’t have much of an opinion on Ed as Etienne since I never watched Gossip Girl or anything he has been in and I think Leven would be a good Meredith!
Thanks, Vyki!! 🙂 This was a really fun pick for me!
I like your choice for St. Clair (although I’ve only read Lola and he came off kinda jerky in that) because that actor looks like he could pull off the arrogance that St. Clair seems to have. Oh goodness, I really don’t like this poor guy, do I?
OH MY GOSH go read Anna and I think you will love him!!! 😀 haha
But yes, I can see where he came off jerky in Lola 😛 He was the “voice of reason” to her somehow haha
I really should have started with Anna because now I have very little motivation to read it because I was like… ehh, he’s not my type of romantic hero!
I hear ya! Bummer.
And Ed Westwick has a good voice. I don’t know why that’s so important; it just is. I love your choice of Anna Kendrick because I think she’s so cute, without being inyourface drop dead gorgeous (which is too intimidating for Anna).
Agreed! I wanted someone who was more girl nextdoor and I feel like I would LOVE to be friends with Anna Kendrick and she’d be an awesome girl to hang out with. The personality just seemed like it totally fit.
And I do love Ed Westwick! He needs to play some good-guy roles since all I know him in is Gossip Girl, and I haven’t even watched that in ages!
Dude. Ed Westwick. DEAD ON FOR ST. CLAIR! That is SO how I picture him! Great job 🙂
yahoooooo thanks, Candice!! 🙂
Anna Kendrick is adorable; she’s a tad older than I imagine Anna, but she’s definitely a great pick (huzzah for Annas). I have to be honest and say I don’t watch GG, but hello EW is a doll! Definitely has the St. Clair hair too!
i love Anna Kendrick, i just saw 50/50 last week & she’s more amazing in every movie she’s in. Ed Westwick, too. He read City of Fallen Angels and I was like, HELLOOOOO! great job!
