The Deja Vu Review [9]

The Deja Vu Review is a new Sunday feature with mini-reviews from books I’ve read before I began my blog at The Book Addict’s Guide! Since I’ve been reading my whole life and only started my blog back in April of 2012, this is my opportunity to revisit some older books and share some mini-reviews of those that didn’t quite make it into the blog spotlight after the initial read.

This Week’s TopicA book with a one-word title

Insatiable (Insatiable, #1)Insatiable by Meg Cabot
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
My Original GR Review: Really a very disappointing book from one of my favorite authors. I loved every other one of Cabot’s books, but this one was over the top, unbelievable (even for a vampire story) and had a ridiculous climactic action scene. Sadly, I was terribly disappointed and most certainly will not be continuing with the series. I finished for the sake of completing the book but I can’t believe how disappointed I was with this novel. I hope if Meg puts out more books, they are far better than this one. I hate to rip on it, but that’s how amateur I felt it was.
Comments: Yep, I still feel pretty let down by this one! I thought the story was pretty cheesy and I wasn’t really a fan. I didn’t even pick up the second book.

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3)Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
My Original GR Review: An interesting ending to the series, but I have to say, I was a little disappointed. There was a giant build up to the end of the entire novel and it seemed to all end too quickly and I was confused as to what was going on at first. The end caught me by surprise because I didn’t know it was happening. All-in-all, it was still a good read, enjoyable, and a must to finish the series.
Comments:  I reread The Hunger Games before the movie came out and I think I’d really like to reread Catching Fire and Mockingjay when I get the chance. I know I was initially disappointed in it, but I’d love to see if anything changes if I read it a second time. I barely remember what happens now too!

Love both of these books and I love the concept of this weekly post. We should turn it into a meme. I would be happy to do this on my blog every Sunday!

That would be me 🙂 There’s a small link box at the bottom of the post (since that’s all I can post on WordPress) and you can link up there. Then there’s a tab for The Deja Vu Review in the top menu bar on my page to check out the topics for each week 🙂
Yay, I’m glad you’re interested in joining! The more the merrier, of course 🙂

I wasn’t very impressed with Mockinjay either. I think that Collins could have combined Catching Fire and Mockingjay, and it just would have been overall better. There were a lot of things that could have been omitted, and I just wasn’t thrilled with much of the last portion of Mockingjay.

Apparently I wrote my post way too late, because yet again I managed to do the wrong subject. Le sigh. I promise I’ll get it right one of these days!! I do love this meme 🙂

That sucks that you were disappointed by both of these books. My cousin said he was also kind of disappointed by the ending of Mockingjay as well, which makes me nervous about it since I loved The Hunger Games. I haven’t read the other two yet, and I don’t want to end it on a disappointed note.

I found both to be a little underwhelming too.
Insatiable was too over the top to be chick lit but not melodramatic enough to be like the soap opera it was sort of trying to be.
And Mockingjay… I just didn’t like the pacing. Certain characters popped up and it just… didn’t make sense to me.

    Great Deja Vu review 🙂

Thank you!!! Yep, that’s the perfect way to put it for Insatiable! I guess it really was supposed to be more of a soap opera, but it just came off silly to me instead!
I really want to reread Mockingjay someday to see if now that I have the whole story if the pacing makes better sense, but I was just expecting so much more out of it!

I haven’t read either of these books. I am a bit hesitant to read Insatiable by Meg Cabot. I love Meg Cabot, but this seems so different from what she normally writes.

I doubt I will ever read The Hunger Games series. I am sure they are very good, but I really don’t care for dystopian society novels. 🙂

Ahh I love dystopians 😀 Haha. We’ve all got our own styles though!
Yeah, I would actually probably recommend not reading Insatiable. I just found it so far removed from the stuff she usually writes and I’m a HUGE Meg Cabot fan and I was pretty disappointed with it! 😛

I was disappointed by the last 50 pages of Mockingjay. As you mention, there is such a build up… and then nothing happens, or if things do happen they have very little impact because the story is rushed and confused. The epilogue I liked, but it was too little, too late in my opinion.
