Series Catch-Up: 2012 Edition and Sign-Ups

So I have a serious issue (please feel free to assume I use the term “serious” loosely).

I’m in the middle of way too many different series.

I was sitting at work one day thinking about how much I want to start wrapping some of these up. There are the obvious ones that I can’t simply due to the fact that, well, the last/other books of the series just aren’t out yet. However, since the inception of The Book Addict’s Guide, I’ve had my bookworm nose stuck in quite a few new and exciting books, a TON of which were series that weren’t necessarily new but were new to me. Then I went overboard and just started every new series I heard was good and started too many new ones before I even finished the ones I had just started.

Solution: Series Catch-Up 2012. Okay, so it says 2012 because I’m hoping to do this each year. This is obviously its first year, so hear me out: I want to dedicate the last two months of the year to working on either advancing further in a series I’ve already started or completing the series all together. It seemed appropriate since the year is wrapping up and this is the perfect timing to accomplish these goals and wrap up some series as well. We can do two months so you have plenty of time to fit in some of the series that you’re itching to finish.

Where do you come in? Well, I could just take this little goal and read all of these books by myself – BUT – I always find it more fun when other people get to join in and we all get to talk about it!

What are the rules? The rules are simple –
ONE. I ask that you sign up with the linky (please) and post the button in your sidebar (if you want – that’s up to you).
TWO. Create an intro post to the event and list what goals you hope to accomplish: finishing up a series, reading as far as you can with what’s released, maybe even starting and finishing a whole series – it’s up to you – but something like that, and you know I like lists, so show us which series you plan on chipping away at.
THREE. Post your reviews from Nov 1 – Dec 31 and link them up to the linky on the main page (will be found in the menu bar on my main page).
FOUR. At your convenience (preferably somewhere around the middle), shoot us an update post.
FIVE. At the end of December, recap your progress. Did you finish all the books you wanted to? More?? Let us know what you completed and what you wish you had been able to get to.

Grab the button for your sidebar here:

MINI-CHALLENGES
I want participation to be uncomplicated but for those who wanted to do more, we can have a couple mini-challenges/extra posts.

ONE. Favorite Series. Want to tell us about your favorite series? Here’s the place to highlight it/them. Tell us about the first time you picked it up, your favorite book of the series, how you feel about any movie adaptations (if applicable), if you enjoy rereading them – The content is up to you! Timing: Please post this the week of 12/9/12. Please add your link to the linky so everyone can see your awesome post too!
TWO. Series Finale. Which series did you wrap up completely during this challenge? How did you feel about the series as a whole? Have you read any other books from this author outside of the series? Timing: Please post the week of 12/24/12 (all the way up through 12/31 – this does not include final progress post for the end of the challenge).

The Fine Print: You don’t have to read these only from Nov 1 – Dec 31. You can start early and save your reviews, or if you’d like you can reschedule reviews to post in November and December, but please only link up reviews that are posted from Nov 1 – Dec 31; do not include reviews that have been previously posted on your blog. Please link up your posts in the appropriate places. This will help other people reach your reviews and challenge posts so we can all have fun with the challenge.

The Incentives: To clean up your TBR pile and to have fun. Sorry guys, unless we get some author sponsorship, I have no giveaways right now! I want us to have fun with this one and clean up some of the series that we’ve taken on and never gotten around to finishing.

I think this is something that a lot of us “suffer” from so I’m hoping it’ll help other people out in straightening up their shelves, finally reading those books they never got around to but meant to, etc. I’d love to see you join in!

Wow, this is perfect, I’m glad I came across this in time 😀

Great idea! Unfortunately, most of the series seem never ending! Though I do have a lot of the Harry Dresden’s to read, the last Vampire Academy, October Daye…hmmm, I guess I do need to do some clean up! 🙂 Not sure if I will make it official and join though, I may just comment every once in a while – I am feeling a tad overwhelmed with other stuff at the moment!

What an awesome idea, and perfect timing! I just decided that I want to finish Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events! I will definitely be signing up. I just have to make an intro post, and decide if there are other series I want to finish by the end of the year.

I love this idea, Brittany! I’m not sure if I’m going to join in this year – I’ll have to see what my review pile looks like at the end of this month before I decide – but there are definitely series I’d like to finish!

Ooh I hope you’re able to join! If not, no big deal. I’ll be able to plan it with more advance notice next year and maybe have sign-ups go for a month or a few weeks. I keep thinking of my ideas at the last minute! Oops 🙂

Well, it doesn’t help that I really fell down on my reviewing since starting my new job this year. It just eats up ALL of my free time and it’s taking me far longer to get books read than it normally does. So I kind of feel like I really need to devote all my time to getting books read and reviewed like I promised I would, you know? But I’d really like to catch up on the Soul Screamers series; that’s one that I would definitely aim to get caught up on if I did join this challenge!

I keep meaning to finish so many series, possibly as a mini-challenge to myself, so this is perfect timing. I can’t do every series I’m reading because that would be madness but this has made me prioritise which is good. Thanks for running this.

Great! So glad you joined. That’s exactly how I am. I definitely won’t be able to catch up on everything but this will give me a good jump on quite a few.

I am actually planning on continuing/finishing up a couple of series soon, so the timing is great! When do we need to put up the intro post? Nov 1 or whenever we’ve got our plans together? I’m definitely going to finish the Spellman series as part of this challenge, though I’m practically there on my own… lol.

yahoo!!! Any time you’re ready for the intro post – Any reviews can go live Nov 1st so it’s up to you if you want to wait until then or post sometime soon with your plans (and help catch a couple more people’s eyes??? haha). It’s pretty flexible!

Oh, and I wanted to say that the grab code for the button didn’t work for me 🙁

I re-did the code though and it worked so I have it now 🙂

I’m in! I’ve just made a list of the series I’m part through or haven’t started but really want to and it’s bigger than I realised! This challenge is the perfect time to get started. Thanks for hosting!
