The Deja Vu Review is a new Sunday feature with mini-reviews from books I’ve read before I began my blog at The Book Addict’s Guide! Since I’ve been reading my whole life and only started my blog back in April of 2012, this is my opportunity to revisit some older books and share some mini-reviews of those that didn’t quite make it into the blog spotlight after the initial read.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Comments: The Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books – Ooooh the shivers. I seriously got creeped out by these books. For some reason all of my friends liked these books and they always tried to get me scared. I tried as hard as I could NOT to listen to the stories! Yeah… I was a chicken.
The Betrayal by R.L. Stine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Comments: THE FEAR STREET BOOKS. Ahhh, this was my childhood. For as much as I hated being scared, I loved these books. If you’ve read any posts from the past couple weeks where I mentioned them, you know that these books gave me nightmares. Regularly. Yet I couldn’t put them down. Once I stopped reading them, the nightmares stopped.
Cheerleaders: The First Evil by R.L. Stine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Comments: The Cheerleaders series of the Fear Street series was also one of my favorites. I can’t remember the details, but I know these were some of the more gruesome ones for me. I think it was in the Cheerleaders series that one girl got in the shower and and out of the faucet came blood instead of water. I think I was afraid of that happening to me for a good couple weeks.

I remember R.L. Stine in my younger days… They also gave me nightmares. About dummies. I do not have a clue how Stine comes up with all his ideas.
Scary Stories is so much fun. The kids still love it at the library. Not only are the stories creepy, but the illustrations are too! Sometimes I bring these books to schools to booktalk, and I always try to find the creepiest picture to show the kids. They love that stuff.
And heck yeah RL Stine! I picked up a couple YA books from the library. I want to see how I feel about them now that I am an adult.
I love how you posted all these childhood scary books! I am going to have to look up Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark again. It has been so long I hardly remember it. And yay for R.L. Stine! Here’s mine for The Langoliers.
