My Latest Bookish Addiction [2]

MLBA

In keeping with the theme of my blog, I decided to start bringing you updates of the newest and greatest bookish addictions in my life so I can share with you some awesomely bookish things or discuss if maybe we share the same bookish loves. It seemed like a great way to get a little discussion going in a very relaxed way.

This Edition’s Bookish Addiction? Edelweiss.

It all started back in June of 2012 (well, it did for me, anyway) when I was just a newbie blogger of two months and I was perusing other bloggers’ reviews. I stumbled across one who had credited a little website called Netgalley. Instantly my interest was piqued. What is this “Netgalley”? How did she get a book from them? Am I allowed to get books from this website? Are they more like it? Naturally, the questions were unending.

So I took it upon myself to sign up for a free account and then lo and behold! eGalleys at my fingertips! Well… Once I was approved. The first book I downloaded was One Moment by Kristina McBride (which I believe was a “read now” if I’m not mistaken) and I actually ended up loving it! Then of course from that moment, I was hooked. I started actually requesting egalleys from publishers and every so often got approved, then approved for a few more, and then approved for a few more.

So why is the topic of this post about Edelweiss instead of Netgalley, you may ask? Because publishers finally started approving me for things on Edelweiss (I don’t know why that one seems harder to crack…) and I just cannot. stop. stalking it. I already have way too many egalleys between Netgalley and Edelweiss combined, but for some reason I cannot stop going back to Edelweiss to see if more titles are up.

I think the draw may be all of the HarperTeen titles that are available there because there really aren’t Harper titles on Netgalley (only for other countries from what I’ve seen, and not HarperTeen) and for some reason I tend to love so many of the books that Harper publishes! I can’t stop stalking Edelweiss to see if they’ve put up more new titles for me to download or if any other publishers have updated with titles for me to request. (Someday you WILL approve me for things, Penguin! You do on Netgalley… sometimes…. I mean… Pretty please?)

So even though I can’t read all of the egalleys fast enough, I can’t help but admit I’m addicted to Edelweiss right now!

So what do you guys think of my latest bookish addiction? Are you obsessed with requesting egalleys like I am? Have any luck with some great pubs on Netgalley and/or Edelweiss? See any titles you think I missed?

Oh yeah, I go through phases where I stalk Netgalley and Edelweiss, too! I’m usually approved because I am a librarian which is awesome! But I have way too many egalleys I need to read, which is beyond overwhelming sometimes. I’m sure you understand 🙂

I love Netgalley. I try not to go crazy with requests because I want to be sure I can read and review them all. I do not have Edelweiss but I see people talk about it. Maybe I should go creat an account.

Oh man! You make me wish I did ebooks! I just can’t do it. I don’t like the idea of reading off a screen, but I can understand why so many people like it—- plus your entire post shows how convenient and beneficial it can be as a blogger! Enjoy the addiction. 🙂

I am so on board with this addiction! I just barely figured out Edelweiss, and I’m also stalking it every day. It’s become a challenge to find a book I want, request it, and GET it. I have been known to bounce and fling and go a little nuts. Ah, the simple joys in life!

I think a lot of bloggers share this addiction right along with you!

Edelweiss is SO dangerous! They always have TONS of things I want to read, and it’s so hard not to just request them all! I remember how freaking excited I was when I was approved for a Harper title on there; they’re awesome! Good luck with Penguin; they seem to be SO much more picky about approvals on Edelweiss than on NetGalley.

I am addicted to both of the websites. That being said I’m addicted a tad more to Edelweiss only because they have more titles that interest me and they tend to approve me more. Plus I can always post my review on edelweiss, netgalley is a little more picky.

Plus, I’ve contatcted Edelweiss’ help department and they are EXTREMELY helpful.

I heart both Edelweiss and Netgalley, but I don’t use them as much as I’m tempted to. Mostly because a lot of the titles have archive dates, so it puts a lot of pressure on me to finish by a certain time, and I can only line up so many ARCs at once! At least when I get one in the mail at random, if it sits past the release date I don’t feel like someone will take it from me. LOL

I will definitely have to check Edelwiess out, especially since it has so many HarperTeen titles. I’m surprised I haven’t heard of it yet (which I guess isn’t totally surprising with all I’ve had going on). Thanks for the post and hopefully a new addiction for me as well 🙂

Edelweiss is bad news – I have been pretty much approved for every book i have requested through there and get Galley Books – which quite a few romance authors (Molly Harper, Sabrina Jeffries, Laura Griffin) fall into as auto-approves. I used to be on NetGalley but it didn’t have as wide a range, and it seemed like I wasn’t getting approved for anything, so I pretty much do Edelweiss exclusively.

As a new blogger i’ve been debating joining/trying to get books from Edelweiss for a few weeks. I guess I should just bite the bullet and do it. I’ve been getting books on Netgalley since before I was a blogger and I have ok luck there, but for some reason I find Edelweiss so intimidating.

I LOVE EDELWEISS! I discovered it at Christmas, and was addicted. I’m very discriminating in my choices (I only request maybe 2 books/month), but I’ve been pretty lucky in what I’ve been able to get. It can be a little frustrating that it takes soooooo long for some of my requests to get approved, and I always wonder what the “rules” are. Like, on NetGalley it matters if you request a lot of books and don’t post feedback on them (I was told publishers look at your requested/feedback ratio and consider that in the approval process…?). But does that matter on Edelweiss? Either way, my iPad is loaded up with books to start reading the second this semester ends. So much love for Edelweiss!

it was several months after we started our blog that i discovered edelweiss. i do peruse it entirely too often, but i find it harder to navigate than netgalley. and i also have several more books than is advisable from both of them. i just made a list yesterday and there are about 25 i need to read. i find myself going to both places on Mondays because surely, they must update once a week, right?

When I was approved for my first Edelweiss title, I think I scared my boyfriend and dog with the squeeing. So I totally understand your addiction! Unfortunately, my Kindle just decided to jump ship this past week, so all the pretties I have sitting there? I can’t get to them. And I can’t buy a new Kindle yet so they’re just sitting in limbo, begging to be read. But I am the same way – totally checking Edelweiss on a daily, if not lots of times a day for new releases and what not.

    Great post!

I love this post Brittany! I only discovered Edelweiss a few weeks ago, but I’m still figuring out how to use it. But I’m definitely addicted to netgalley. It’s scary, I have so many other books to read and here I am requesting my head off for titles that seem really awesome :).

I definitely approve of your addiction lol!
