Spring is FINALLY here in Chicagoland and in true Chicago fashion, we skipped the spring temperatures of 50s and 60s and immediately jumped into summer and 80 degrees. *shrugs* Regardless, this means that I get to start reading on my balcony again! I LOVE reading outdoors. I don’t know what it is — maybe I feel like I’m in a different world myself when I get to read outdoors? — but it really is one of my favorite places to read.
Another thing that spring (summer) brings is getting into all the seasonal craft beers. My boyfriend and I love craft beers (or just beer in general) and I always really like trying all of the different seasonal beers that come out with each turn of the season, but the summer ones really always seem to be my favorites! So I grab my beer (craft or not), grab my book, and go sit on my balcony to read. Then I take Instagram photos, wishing I was creative and an actual photographer, and post them on Twitter. Yay!!
So I had this idea. What about making it a casual little feature for my blog? Grab your book and your beer and go take your own photos on your balcony and I can feature you, your current read, and your pictures on my blog! Immediately I was like, “Brilliant!!!” Only wait… Not everyone has a balcony. And surely not everyone drinks beer (or is even 21), so I was a tad bummed that I was going to have to scratch “A Book, a Beer, and a Balcony” before it was even born.
So my brilliant idea from the night before was a total bust. UNTIL, I realized *smacks forehead* DUHHH. Why not scrap the balcony and change it to just “Book and a Beverage”!? So that’s what we have here.
So now that you know the story behind it, here’s what BOOK AND A BEVERAGE will entail:
- Take a picture of your current read (this should be a physical copy and not your Kindle/Nook/iPad so we can all Oooh and Ahhh over the pretty cover!) and of the beverage you’re currently drinking while reading your book. If the mood so strikes you, you can send up to three pictures and have your own photoshoot. (Not like I did that this weekend or anything…)
- “Do I have to have a beverage?” Yes, you do! It’s part of the title of the feature so even if you’re not drinking something at the time, find one to share the spotlight with your book 🙂
- “Does it have to be an Instagram picture?” Of course not! I just like finagling with the different features it offers. You can send the picture in any format.
- “Do I have to be in the picture?” NO. You can choose to include yourself in the picture or just to feature your book & beverage. The choice is yours!
That’s it! AND we’ll do a quick, informal Q&A about you, your blog, and your book/beverage. If you show interest in the feature, I’ll send you the questions to answer and you can send your responses back with your photos. Sound good!?
I just thought this would be a fun little feature to share what we’re currently reading and maybe help you meet some new bloggers as well! It’s easy, it’s quick, it’s fun, and I hope you guys are interested! If this sounds like fun and you want to be featured on Book and a Beverage, please send me an email at bookaddictsguide [at ] gmail [dot] com!

What a great idea! This should be fun =D
This is SUCH a cool idea. I wish I had a balcony. I lovelovelove reading outside. Anyway, I’m definitely looking forward to everyone’s submissions. Excited!
This is a super cool idea and a great way to feature bloggers! It’d definitely be fun to participate in as well. Looking forward to these posts 🙂
How cute are youuuu?! I’ll def be taking you up on this. It will be more of book and a glass of WINE because you know me 😀 YAY
Fun feature! I am always Instagramming my books & beverages so I might have to join in 🙂
Thank you!! I hope to see you join in sometime!! 🙂
Oh, I really love this feature idea! It was pretty warm here until a recent string of rain and weird weather. Once it gets prettier outside I’ll definitely be emailing you about participating!
Yay, sounds great! I look forward to hearing from you later on down the road 🙂
This is such a great idea! I may partake once it’s a bit warmer because that means I can read by the pool. As for craft beer…have you tried anything from Revolution or Three Floyds? Both are amazing if you haven’t!
Oh yay, I look forward to hearing from you 😀
I’ve had the Anti Hero IPA from Revolution which wasn’t bad! I don’t think I’ve had a lot from Three Floyds… the ones I have had were really strong beers! But still pretty good 🙂
This sounds like a really cool idea! I can’t read on my balcony, one reason being that it’s really high up and I’m scared of heights, but also the SPIDERS! But I can definitely read with a beverage 🙂
Such a cute idea for a feature! I am definitely interested, and I just sent you an email! I love reading outside too, and I’ve spent the last few days outside reading and getting my tan on 😉 unfortunately without and “adult beverage” though, because I had to go to work after. And I’m pretty sure that checking people out with their groceries after a few drinks miiiight not go so well…. 😛
Such a cute idea! Love that you opened it up to submissions and can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.
Cheers!
I hope you know that I am TOTALLY down to do this! I’m not going to do it right this minute (since I want to wait till I’m reading a certain book in my pile), but I love the idea of it. I’m definitely going to email/tweet you about it 🙂
Aww, man! If only we’d connected a year or even 9 months ago, when I was still living in Chicago! Spring/Summer there is the absolute best, too (though I could have done without last year’s 100°+ heat wave during 4th of July—that was bonkers).
Anyway, I will email you shortly because I love love love this feature idea. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the weather, your balcony, and your books + beverages!
Oh man, our timing was just off!
Oh YAYYY I look forward to hearing from you! So glad to hear you’re interested 😀
Cute! Love your idea. As soon as it finally decides to get sunny here, I’m totally going to go sit out on my patio/backyard and take some pictures! 🙂
Thanks, Candice!! Isn’t it just so much fun!? I don’t know why, but I love taking reading pictures outside 🙂
This sounds like so much fun!
Thanks so much! Hope to hear from you if you’re interested 🙂
AMAZINNGGG idea. I adore this. Seriously, reading outside is one of my FAVORITE things ever! And beverages [whether it wine, beer or iced coffee] while reading make it EVEN BETTER! SO awesome Brittany!
Yay, thank you so much!!! I’m so glad people are interested 😀
Totes gonna e-mail you because this feature sounds divine! I’m glad you scrapped the balcony bit because, while I have one, we don’t have furniture out there yet and a surprising presence of caterpillars on the deck (cute, but I don’t wanna snuggle them or accidentally squish them in my pages). I’m gonna have to find a good seasonal to try out. Awesome idea!
Side note: I used to live in Michigan – don’t get too excited about the weather just yet! I’m sure you’re well aware but those lakes can send the weather back into the snowy range faster than you can say “Yay, it’s finally spring!” Which is thoroughly depressing.
Other side note: Did you try the Pumpking from last fall? I sorta wish it was fall again cause I miss that goodness.
Oh yay! I’m so excited to see you’re interested!
I know, the balcony had to go. Way too limiting haha! And geez, no kidding. It was 85 the other day and now it’s 40 and rainy. I’m just glad it’s not snow! Although I guess you’re right… Nothing is ever safe from snow here! Haha.
Hmmm, I can’t remember if I tried the Pumpking one… My boyfriend and I actually homebrew so we made our own pumpkin beer (my pick haha) so we didn’t pick up a lot of pumpkin ones this fall. I really like Blue Moon’s pumpkin flavored beer and there was another one that I’m blanking on at the moment… I LOVE pumpkin beer though!!
Ooh, I’m interested in this. I usually read on my kindle, but I have several library books right now, so this would actually work!
Sounds great!! Just shoot me an email if you’d like to participate 🙂 🙂 Thanks!!!
