It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!
This week’s topic: FREEBIE WEEK!
It’s a freebie week for Top Ten Tuesday meaning we get to choose whatever post we want. Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but I feel inspired to choose a topic that’s not exactly on the lighter side. I just finished The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler and I need to talk about FEELINGS. Sooo…..
TOP TEN BOOKS THAT MADE ME BAWL (in a good way)
Books Mentioned
- The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler: This was the first Sarah Ockler book I’ve read and now I MUST get my hands on more. I bawled like a baby at half of this book but in a totally good way. It was so touching and I felt so connected to it. Keep an eye out for our Selective Collective posts for this book tomorrow!!!
- Any Gayle Forman book: I actually read If I Stay on my computer at work and it was insanely hard not to tear up or burst into tears at my desk. I was so moved by Where She Went and fell in love with Just One Day. I’m also hosting a Gayle Forman read along if you’re interested in picking up her books for the first time or looking for an excuse to re-read all this beauty!
- The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay: This book was so gorgeous that it moved me to tears. I felt all the heartbreak and all the pain that Nastya felt and I absolutely loved it. I’m on the blog tour for the paperback release of The Sea of Tranquility this week so keep an eye out for that too! 🙂
- The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson: I devoured this book in one day. I still remember sitting in my arm chair, reading this book and just sobbing to myself as I read.
- Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: I actually didn’t break down and flat out cry, but I teared up several times (for obvious reasons) in this book! I also had to hold back a little bit because I was reading half of it in a shop with my boyfriend and his friend working on cars. Not exactly a place for crying haha.
- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: Eleanor’s story was so heartbreaking! I truly felt for her and the ending of this book kind of broke my heart a little.
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling: Two specific scenes (you know which). Every time… Every time.
- Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver: This actually wasn’t one of my favorite books for the first half, but I was totally drawn in the second half of the book and listening to the audio in my car, I totally sobbed on my way home from work one day.
- Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech: This definitely deserves a re-read soon! I haven’t read it since I was probably 12 or 13 or something, but I totally remember tearing up at the end.
- One Moment by Kristina McBride: Ahh, my very first book from Netgalley. I just have fond memories. But quite an interesting story, IMO and definitely one full of tears for me!
So sorry to be a downer with books that make me cry, but it was just appropriate this week! These are GOOD crying books, in my opinion so if you’re looking for something that will move you, I say start with any of these!

I’m so nervous to read The Sky is Everywhere because everyone says it made them cry! I have to be in the right mood for books like that.
My TTT post
Great topic choice! I definitely have cried while reading a bunch of these. Heck, I cry while thinking about Code Name Verity. I will say I cried more at The Sea of Tranquility’s happy/hopeful moments than I did at the sad moments.
This is such a good topic! I’m definitely adding some of these books to my TBR for when I want a really emotional read. Probably not any time soon because it’s summer and I love lighthearted, swoon beach reads! And OMG when I get around to doing my Harry Potter re-read, ohhhhh boy, there will be so many tears!!! Great Top Ten Tuesday Brittany! 😀
I haven’t read any of the above except for Harry Potter (obviously). But I’ve been meaning to read Gayle Forman’s books, along with The Sky is Everywhere and Eleanor & Park. Great list!
I totally agree about any Gayle Forman book! She’s a tear bringing genius!
My TTT
Great list! I can’t wait for Sea of Tranquility to come out I have been wanting to read it since I read your review. I love a good cry book, especially when I actually do need a good cry. I just downloaded Before I Fall onto my Ipod, so that one will be coming up soon. And I really want to read Just One Day pretty soon, too. My TTT.

Oh I’m pretty sure I cried every chapter of The Sky is Everywhere!!! So beautiful. Oh, and when I listened to If I Stay… every time she talked about her brother and family… TEARS! And Harry Potter… oh the scene where he’s walking to Voldemort and he asks “Does it hurt?” It doesn’t matter how many times I read that scene, I choke on my sobs! Great list… love these books oh so much!
Great TTT topic! I can definitely think of a bunch of books that made me bawl. The Sea of Tranquility is a great one : )
