Top Ten Tuesday – June 25, 2013: Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far in 2013

TTT

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!
This week’s topic: Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far in 2013

TOP TEN BOOKS IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2013!

Okay. This was DIFFICULT. There were several books that aaaaalmost made the cut, but in the end, I decided not to cheat (which was a hard decision) and just keep ten.

PDF2

Siege and Storm – Leigh Bardugo
Cinder – Marissa Meyer
Scarlet – Marissa Meyer
The Dream Thieves – Maggie Steifvater (review to come closer to pub date!)
The Program – Suzanne Young

contemps

The Book of Broken Hearts – Sarah Ockler
Eleanor & Park – Rainbow Rowell
The Summer I Became A Nerd – Leah Rae Miller
Also Known As – Robin Benway
he Trouble With Flirting – Claire LaZebnik

It was REALLY hard to pick just ten books but there you have it! So far this year I’ve read 71 books and these are the best of the best! I’m excited to see everyone else’s lists today too!

Did any of my favorites make your top ten too? What have been your favorite books of 2013 so far?

It makes so happyyyyyy to see Siege and Storm + Cinder + Scarlet + E&P on your list. I LOVE all of those so much. I also thought Also Known As was adorable, and I can’t wait for the sequel 🙂 Now I’m off to read your Siege review (can you believe I never read that?!?!).

YAY YOUR BOOKS ARE AWESOME!! I’m so glad to see The Lunar Chronicles on here because LOVE. And Siege and Storm, too. I haven’t read The Program yet, but I’ll see if my library has a copy. And The Dream Thieves–OMG I CAN’T WAIT TO READ THIS. I’m listening to the audio of The Raven Boys first to refresh my memory because I think I need one, lol. But I am hearing excellent things about it!
I KNOW that you love Rainbow, so I’m not surprised that E&P is on your list :-). It was on mine too. But I’m so excited that The Trouble With Flirting is on here! It was a kindle deal the other day (or it’s possibly still on sale) so I grabbed it because I thought her first book was super cute. YAY!

HOORAY FOR THE LUNAR CHRONICLES! It makes my heart so happy that both books made your list of top reads so far. They definitely deserve their spots, as they’re phenomenal!

I still need to read Cinder and The Raven Boys! Grrr! Why is my TBR list so long? You know the one I really want to get to? The Trouble with Flirting. It just looks like it’s so promising on the kissing front. You know I love kissing books.

I was surprised to see Dream Thieves on here! I haven’t even read The Raven Boys yet, but a few people have told me book 2 was so so. But… I trust your taste so wiping away the negativity. haha
I’m really excited about Eleanor & Park and The book of Broken Hearts– I’ve heard amazing things about both!
What I REAALLY need to read is Cinder!! 🙂

Awesome list, Brittany1 I did like The Program and AKA a lot too- it’s hard narrowing the list down to ten! We do have E&P in common. The Trouble with Flirting does look very cute too.

It was so hard wasn’t it? I’m glad I’m not the only one that had trouble, so many posts I seen today where people had trouble FINDING ten! I could hardly narrow it down 😛

I haven’t read Shadow & Bone(but I’m on my way!! lol and I need to catch up because Siege and Storm is SO popular and apparently so good!!), The Program, Also Known As and The Book of Broken Hearts(well because of you and your great review that is now on hold at the library :P) but they are on my tbr… and hopefully sooner than later 😛

I preordered SCARLET and still haven’t read it! Books I buy sit on my shelf while I read library books and ARCs. It’s a problem! I almost put BOOK OF BROKEN HEARTS on my list too…but it got edged out. I realized I have read quite a few great books this year!

Yay Cinder and Scarlet! Both were so great. Siege and Storm was on almost everybody’s list this TTT and I think I am convinced I really need to start this series. Soon. Great list. M

Scarlet (and Cinder) is amazing and I need Cress like yesterday. That first chapter was just a tease! Siege and Storm is amazing so far but I don’t want it to end!! I think I just need to finish it and go back and reread it because it is awesome and epic. I just picked up The Program and The Book of Broken Hearts from my library so I hope I can get to them soon. And it is always awesome to see fellow E&P fans…Fangirl is currently taunting me and I think I need to move it up on my TBR.

Ah! THE PROGRAM! I was holding it in my hands debating whether or not to borrow it when I saw it at the library last week. I’ve been awaiting its release for several months, but I finally put it back down, telling myself “YOU HAVE FOURTEEN BOOKS CHECKED OUT YOU HAVEN’T EVEN READ YET. And 10 more on hold! If you borrow any more books you will lose them. Or break your back carrying these unfinished books back to the library.” I always need to refrain myself in libraries. *sigh* I always overestimate my reading speed. In my imagination, I can finish 5 books a day…

The Dream Thieves is on my radar too. I think I might have to reread The Raven Boys before picking it up though. I “read” The Raven Boys on audiobook, and I fear that’s not the best format for that book because it was so complex. And admittedly, I am lazy with audiobooks. If I get lost (which happened often,) I am often too lazy to rewind and I’m like “ehhhh…I’ll figure it out!”

My copy of Shadow and Bone is still glaring at me on my bookshelf…unread for over a year.

The didn’t love the Lunar Chronicles as much as I hoped. It was enjoyable, but I had issues with culture treatment in Cinder. As a Chinese speaker, the cultural errors were glaringly stereotypical–or flat out wrong and distracted me from the story. >__<

I don't read enough contemporaries. I aways thought it wasn't my thing, but I've been reading some AMAZING contemporaries (I really enjoyed Eleanor and Park) this past month and I want more.
I definitely need to check out some of these on your list.

Great choices! I’ve been debating reading Also Known As, I really liked Audrey, Wait, but part of me thinks the premise of AKA is kind of cheesy (maybe it’s the cover?). And I’m going to read The Book of Broken Hearts next, I’m really excited, hopefully it will be on my favorite books of the second half of 2013 🙂

Love your list!! Can’t wait to read The Dream Thieves. The Program isn’t my typical read but people seem to really like it so I want to give it a shot one day.

Great list! I’ve just finished Cinder (which I enjoyed!) and am about to start Scarlet. I’m so excited! Siege and Storm (and it’s predecessor) are sitting on my TBR pile as well, so I’m hoping I get to share the love with everyone else. Really, you have so many books on here that I want to read. There’s just never enough time!

Why thank you! 😀 I think it kind of looks like my handwriting, actually. When I write neatly, of course.
Omg, E. The Book of Broken Hearts… I’m STILL thinking about this book. It totally affected my life.

I don’t know what is up with today’s lists but I’ve barely read anything on like EVERYONE’s lists. Cinder was pretty amazing, though. And I did like Siege and Storm. And after reading your review for Scarlet and seeing it on this list, I’m VERY excited about reading it.

I’ve done that with quite a few lists too — OR I’ll see some really popular ones and then the others… nada.
Oh, Scarlet is SO good and it has a ton more twists than Cinder! Hope you love it 🙂

I’ve only read three books from this list (fail), but I do enjoy the Lunar Chronicles a lot. Not, maybe, to the degree that most of the blogging world does, but they are excellent books. I’m trying to decide if I want to continue with Leigh Bardugo’s books, so that’s up in the air, but I do desperately need to read The Trouble with Flirting (yay, Austen!) and The Book of Broken Hearts.

The only book we have in common on our lists is Eleanor & Park. I usually read Sarah Ockler’s newest book right when it releases, but this year I simply didn’t get to. I’ve seen it on more lists than not, so I’ll have to read it this summer. A friend of mine is letting me borrow her ARC of The Dream Thieves, so I’m definitely excited to read that 🙂 I read Also Known As, but I just thought it was okay. Maybe it was the audio, but it is a cute book 🙂

I hope you love The Dream Thieves! I loved where this book took the overall story!
I hear you about AKA! I just loved how cute it was. It wasn’t a life-changer but I had so much fun reading it!

this is such a fantastic list! of course, i’ve read most of the contemps, & I love Claire LeZebnik, so I need to read that last one. I really wanna start the Raven Boys series, but I think I’ll wait until they’re all out & also, the Program looks soo good. 🙂 Eventually, I’ll read Cinder as well.
