TheBlog

Name & Blog Name: My name is Jessica, most everybody calls me Jessie Marie these days. : ) And my blog is (so wittily) named Jessie Marie Reads!
Tell us a little about your blog! Well, Jessie Marie Reads was “born” in May 2013. But it’s actually the phoenix rising from the ashes of the death of my old blog, The Daily Bookmark, that I had since November 2011. Had a little hiccup with my host and well, let’s just say it was a really great time to for a fresh start. 😉 I mainly review YA on my blog but I’ve been known to dabble into the adult regions as well. I participate in several memes and I kinda stink at coming up with creative discussions (you’re all so good at that!). During the phase where I wasn’t book blogging, I realized there was a piece of me that was missing and in that realization, it occurred to me that I don’t ever want to stop blogging. 🙂
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) Probably my review for Something Like Normal by Trish Doller. I really let it all out during that review, I got personal and I expressed everything I wanted to. That review meant a lot to me because I bared a little bit of myself and was then rewarded by a comment back from Trish herself. Unfortunately, the comment was on my deceased blog and thus, lost forever. But I pulled the review to repost it when I revitalized the blog.
Got anything special coming up we should know about?
No, not of the top of my head. I’ve been trying to do some brainstorming to come up with something unique to the blog. So far I’ve come up with a lot of scribbling and doodling without much direction. 😉

TheBook

Whatcha reading? Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) I purchased it from my local Barnes & Noble. Interestingly enough, I had a copy on my Kindle from NetGalley and only just remembered that the other day. This happens to me a little more often than it should. 😉
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? ‘Cause it’s the only book I’m reading right now. I was in the middle of three on the go just a few days ago. But that has subsided so I can focus on CNV.
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? This book is about World War II from an unfamiliar perspective. The writing is amazing. The MC is hilarious and the story is great. It’s been criticized for being slow in the beginning, but I don’t agree. I would recommend this book and I actually have – a friend of mine who’s working on her English teaching degree was looking for an alternative to The Diary of Anne Frank, being that that is the most commonly used piece for the era, so I recommended Code Name Verity. I haven’t finished it yet, though, so I may be retracting that recommendation based on the ending. 😉 We’ll see!

Whatcha drinking? Coffee. I am struggling with that need to nap at about two in the afternoon syndrome and I have too much to do to snooze for an hour or so. Plus, I just bought this new creamer called Cold Stone Creamery Hot for Cookie. DELICIOUS.
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? Oh, man, that’s a toss-up. Because I love my Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks and they have the added benefit of keeping me awake. But I also like having a glass of wine. I’m into dry Rieslings right now and cozying up with my favorite Virginia Tech blanket on my red chair with a tall glass sounds awesome. 🙂
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! Also a difficult one. But I suppose a mojito I had in Las Vegas a couple years ago. It’s quite the story. I was in Vegas with my mom and we were seeing the town. I was 9 months to my 21st birthday so I didn’t really get to experience Las Vegas but nevertheless. On our last day there, we ended up at this restaurant (I cannot remember where) for lunch. I ordered a Mojito, just to see what would happen (I’ve always looked a bit young for my age), my mom wasn’t having a conniption over my getting one drink in Las Vegas. To my shock the waiter didn’t say a word. Didn’t ask for any ID, nothing. The mojito was awesome. I like mojitos with a good punch of mint and this delivered. But I think it was more the victory than anything. 😉

Bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Hmm. I’d have to say Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. Something Like Normal by Trish Doller. And The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons.
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? I’m gonna get cheesy here, but starting my blog made me proud. Or, let’s say really getting it off the ground because those early days were a little sketchy. 😉 I dunno, starting my blog was a big step for me. I’ve always been a little reserved and such so to share all of my opinions about books in a VERY public forum was a great jumping off point. From there, I’ve probably given too many details of my life but I’m okay with that. In all honesty, blogging feels like the thing I was supposed to do to help find myself because it’s almost like a diary in a very indirect way.
Anything else you’d like to share? Um, just this. Don’t avoid any books for any reason; read everything, always. Oh, and GO HOKIES! 🙂

Thanks, Jessie!! Pumpkin Spice Lattes MMMM. And E&P is always a great recommendation! Thanks for being on Book and a Beverage!

    Hi Jessi!!

First thing is first…Cold Stone Creamery Hot for Cookie…WHAT. *quits job and runs to grocery store* How have I not heard of this?

So…moving on to you know, the BOOK…I read CNV a few months back and while reading the first part I was thinking that it was a bit slow, however when I reached part two (like, even the first few paragraphs of part 2) I was like wait *MIND BLOWN* and then realized how epically amazing the book was. I did not react to it as others did but I think that it was WAYY too hyped for me by the time I read it, you know how that happens?

Eleanor & Park is a book that has been recommended all over the place, I am a little afraid of it but it is definitely on the TBR!!

Also I am with you on those pumpkin spice lattes…okay enough about food!

Yay Jessie! I think that creamer you mentioned sounds DELICIOUS. Also, Code Name Verity is a great book. Slow start, but builds up to a GOOD end.
