TheBlog

Name & Blog Name: Ashley from Wholly Books!
Tell us a little about your blog! Wholly Books is a YA, MG, and NA book blog with the primary focus on YA. I started the blog a couple of years ago after I discovered there was a whole community of people that loved books like I did.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) I love all of my That Awkward Thursday posts and hate that I haven’t done them in a while. My favorite is probably Hate Book, Love the Author. A couple of my favorite reviews are Clockwork Princess  and Just One Day (which is more of an open letter than a review.)
Got anything special coming up we should know about? I am hoping to eventually start That Awkward Thursday back up because it’s a feature I really enjoyed writing. Also, I have this idea for an event called The YA Games. Basically, it will be The Hunger Games with a bunch of characters from popular YA books trying to survive. Different characters will be put against each other with two possible outcomes and people will vote on which option they find more likely to happen or would like to happen.  I’m still working on details but I hope to do it in January or February.

TheBook

Whatcha reading? I’m reading The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) Purchased from Booksamillion
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? It’s the book I’m reading now.
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? So far I’m having trouble getting into it. I’m a huge fan of Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series so I’m not sure why I’m struggling. As it is, I’m only about 100 pages in and it’s a long book so there’s still time for me to get more into it. I do recommend the series as a whole though!

Whatcha drinking? Sweet Tea from my awesome Duck Dynasty cup! 🙂
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? I’m a Mountain Dew addict so I’m usually drinking it. I’m out at the moment so I’m stuck with sweet tea.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! Mountain Dew

Bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Wow! This is seriously one of the toughest questions in the world! Top three? Poison Princess by Kresley Cole (and Endless Knight!!) I definitely recommend the audiobook of these. I just finished Endless Knight and absolutely loved it. It’s such an unique story! Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas –– This book is so interesting, shocking and different. I think it would appeal to a wide audience. The Once and Future King by T.H. White –– I love King Arthur and all of the stories surrounding him. This version is excellent and has some amazing quotes in there!
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? When I was younger I wanted to be a writer. As I grew up I began thinking that writing wasn’t an option. I put it off, went to college for something totally different, graduated and now have a “real” job. However, writing has always been on my mind. I wrote a book a few years ago after reading Twilight. (It has a plot hole the size of Texas that I have no idea how to fix so it’s on the backburner for now) Still, writing has been on the back burner for me for a few years. I have a son, a husband, a job, and a blog that all demand my attention. But recently, I did Classics Retold and became obsessed with King Arthur. I loved the T.V. series Merlin (I watched the entire series in less than a month). Now, I am once again inspired and motivated. For the first time in a long time I have this sense of purpose. I know what I want to do and am determined to do it. So for me, my proudest moment is this one and when I wrote that first book. Now, I know that I can in fact do it if I just go for it.
Anything else you’d like to share? I would just like to thank you for featuring  me on your blog today and I hope some of you will say hello to me on twitter or check out my blog! 🙂

Hi Ashley! I think it’s AMAZING that you were able to write a whole book. You’ve achieved my dream! I’m excited for you to be able to write more. Also – The House of Hades is spectacular. I really enjoyed it, and there’s a lot in store after those first 100 pages!

Thanks! If only it had been a good book without a huge plot hole! lol. But as you said I get to write more and eventually I’ll write one that doesn’t have a huge plot hole! I hope anyway! I’ll have to check out your for House of Hades!
