It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic:
Top Ten Books About Friendship
I love this topic. And it’s going to be a very easy one to do! I love any book with a really, really good friendship or one that addresses the complications and complexities of friendships as well. You don’t need a long intro. Here are the best of the best, in my book.
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
‘Nuff said.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter #1) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter #2) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter #3) – J.K. Rowling
Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
I just love the friendships in the book. Both between Dee and Reagan and Dee and Matt Finch. (Matt Finch!!) They just really warmed my heart and take you through what best friendship really is. I already want to re-read this book. Will probably have to do that over the summer.
Nantucket Blue/Nantucket Red by Leila Howland
I can’t even begin to tell you how much these two books meant to me because I just saw so much of myself in Cricket — but these books also have a different kind of representation of friendship. Cricket really struggles with her best friend Jules after Jules’ mom passes away. It’s really interesting to see how these two girls handle this struggle throughout both books and how friendships really go through several ups and downs.
Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg
Better Off Friends – Elizabeth Eulberg
I LOVED how this book addresses the boy-girl friendship. I really related with so much of this book as well. It was so much fun to read and look back on my life and see those parallels!
Roomies by Tara Altebrando and Sara Zarr
Roomies – Tara Altebrando & Sara Zarr
Roomies is a story of I think a lot of us can identify with, even if we didn’t have that same exact roommate experience — even if you didn’t go to college or have a roommate, it’s still hard to make that friendship with someone for the first time without knowing anything about them and I really liked how these two girls had to get to know each other with nothing whatsoever to go on.
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Eleanor & Park – Rainbow Rowell
I love the friendship that developed between Eleanor and Park. They were both sort of misfits that found a place in the world with each other. They taught each other so much, even without a romantic aspect involved and I really loved how they were just there for each other and got to know each other with little to no judgement.
Walk Two Moons
I just finished my re-read of Walk Two Moons and I’m still totally in love with it. It was great to see how different Sal was and how she came to be friends with the kids that she did at her school. I like how even though she was pretty different from the other kids regarding background and appearance, her friendships formed easily. She definitely grew from the new friends she made in Ohio and they opened her eyes to her own personal situations as well as situations she had never been in before.

how could I forget about Roomies, where was my head when making my list. I still need to read Better off Friends! Harry Potter and Open Road Summer of course <3333
I absolutely love your list! Harry Potter is in my list too! Really, who can forget the friendship Harry, Ron and Hermione had. I also thought of adding E&P on my list but I figured the book is mainly about romance, still Iove how Eleanor and Park’s friendship developed. 🙂
my top ten tues: http://wp.me/p3v5T1-qi
I want to read Roomies since I just finished my first year of college. I’m also going to read Fangirl soon which is about a girl’s freshman year of college.
Eleanor & Park!! They were truly best friends and I loved that. I have yet to read any of these other books. Fail. Especially on the HP front…. Don’t hate me. Lol.
I love Walk Two Moons! Sharon Creech writes fantastic middle grade books that deal with friendship and other serious topics. Great list!
How oh how did I manage to forget about the Golden Trio? I am so ashamed of myself haha. That’s the only series from your list that I’ve actually read. Or I may have read Walk Two Moons, but it would have been years and years ago. I’ll definitely plan on reading Open Road Summer and Eleanor and Park soon. Great picks, Brittany!
Eleanor & Park as well as the entire Harry Potter series definitely had wonderful friendships. I may have to do a Harry Potter reread soon; I haven’t done that in a while! I’ve heard pretty good things about Roomies though I haven’t read it, I may have to now that it made your list.
Harry Potter made my list too! So many great friendships in that series! Roomies has definitely made my TBR list. Great post!
Such a great list… I totally agree with you on ORS and E&P!! So excited to read Nantucket Blue….just bought that one this weekend! Kind of embarressed to admit I’ve never read Harry Potter…can we still be friends?? 😉
The only books I have read on your list are the Harry Potter books. But I really want to read Open Road Summer, Eleanor and Park, and Better Off Friends. I think I will add the others to my tbr list. 😀
I like that you chose friendships that aren’t necessarily sunshine & roses b/c truthfully, what friendship is?! A good friendship, in my eyes, is one that tests you. Through those trials is what makes you learn and grow from one another.
I’m still astonished that I forgot to add HP to my list, but I’m glad to see it on another one today! Also: those gifs gave me feels – thanks a lot 😛
I LOVE Open Road Summer, and I’m already wanting to read it again despite just having finished it a few weeks ago. Matt. Finch. <3
I love your Potter gifs. That series really did teach an entire generation about friendship and loyalty. So good!
Okay so I’m guessing that I need to read Open Road, because it’s on everyone’s lists.

Walk Two Moons was one of my favorite books when I was younger– I’ve had it on my list to re-read again and you might have just convinced me to bump it up!
This list is fantastic! Better Off Friends is such a great book about friendship – they are two of my favorite characters. I really need to read Nantucket Blue/Nantucket Red – they are sitting on my shelf and I need to make them a priority!
Yes, Harry Potter! This series is a shining example of what true friendship ought to be. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading the other books on your list, but I will have to check them out.

I love that Eleanor and Park are friends before easing into their romance. That’s the best kind of relationship. I really should read Roomies, it appeared on several lists and it looks really cute.
I need to read Roomies and E&P… like pronto. I love Rainbow and Sara Zarr’s books, so I know I’ll probably love those 2. That HP gif made me smile. Me and my son are doing a HP movie marathon this week… it’s so much fun to revisit that series 🙂 I love Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Such great friendships 🙂
My TTT
I didn’t even think about including Eleanor and Park, but you’re right – their relationship definitely starts as friends first! I love the way it builds and blossoms into more.
