TOP TEN TUESDAY
April 7, 2015

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic was:
Top Ten Characters You’d Like To Check In With

There are quite a few books that I wonder “Where would these characters be now? What would they be doing?” simply because I loved the characters so much and I wish their stories could go on forever! I also love companion series that tell the story of another character but meanwhile have prominent appearances by previous characters or even just small cameos. These are the books I think about the most:

CHARACTERS I’D LOVE TO SEE

The Scorpio Races | Sean & Puck: Where are Sean and Puck now? What are they doing? How is life after the Scorpio Races? Does Sean create a successful business? What happened to Puck and her brothers? What happened to Corr? I just need so much more of them BUT I also don’t think that story should go on. I just want to peek into their lives!

If I Stay/Where She Went | Adam & Mia: WHERE SHE WENT sort of breaks my heart all over again each time I read it. I know how it ends and it is fantastic but I would looove to peek into their lives now and see how they are in their 20s, hopefully happy. Honestly, I could read more about them forever. This one I WOULD love to read more of!

Nantucket Blue/Red | Cricket: I LOVED these books. I keep joking (to myself. Hopefully that’s not too sad of a thing because I never got around to writing a post about it) that I would read “Nantucket Old and Gray”. I loved this series and Leila Howland’s writing and I could honestly read them forever. I wish I could!

Harry Potter | All characters: Of course Harry Potter is one I will never, ever tire of. I would love to read more about the characters as adults. I would love to read more about the teachers. I would love to read more about the new generation, the Marauders, the histories, a different school, a new side of the wizarding world that we don’t even know about. The wizards in Egypt, a book about Quidditch players, a wizard who got trapped into going to a Muggle school, the students of Durmstrang. Honestly JK, it’s not selling out. WE WANT THESE. WE NEED THESE.

The Grisha Trilogy | Alina & Mal: This is another one where I really wouldn’t want another book or novella because it ended so perfectly, but I would LOVE to see little snippets of Mal & Alina’s lives now. Maybe they will appear in Six of Crows!?

Rainbow Rowell’s books: I’d love to check in on all of Rainbow’s characters! It would be great to see all of them again but I think I’m most anxious to peek in on Eleanor & Park! Also, Rainbow mentioned that there was an appearance of two of her characters in LANDLINE! Did you catch it?

COMPANIONS I LOVED

Anna/Lola/Isla by Stephanie Perkins: I absolutely love love loved seeing Anna in LOLA and both girls in ISLA (and even Isla in ANNA! Whew, appearances all around)! It’s so entertaining to see these three books overlap and to be able to see what each girl is up to now. And it truly is the BEST THING EVER at the end of ISLA when we get to see what Anna and Etienne are up to!!!

His Fair Assassin by Robin LaFevers: Each book was very much its own story and yet they all tied together to the main plot. I really loved getting sneak peeks of what Ismae and Sybella were up to in MORTAL HEART and it was great to see Annith in GRAVE MERCY and be able to see a part of her before her story truly took off!

Gayle Forman’s books: These are almost more like Easter Eggs than cameos… but I LOVED how a band from SISTERS IN SANITY was mentioned in IF I STAY and how Adam Wilde’s music is mentioned in JUST ONE YEAR. It’s so fun to see those two worlds cross over and know they exist together even if the characters don’t share the same story!

Which books would you love to peek in on again? And isn’t this the BEST thing about companions!?

It would, of course, be great to see where all the HP characters are now. And Rowling is still so active in this world she built that maybe someday we will get something new about them!

And I wholeheartedly agree with Adam & Mia. I liked If I Stay but I LOVED Where She Went. In fact, I can’t think of any series where I loved a second book so much more than the first!!! I would love to see where those two are now. No doubt doing big things! 😉 🙂

I have to thank you for including Nantucket Blue and Nantucket Red on your list! I hadn’t heard of them until I read this post and I picked them up a couple of weekends ago. Since then I’ve read the first book and I absolutely LOVE it!!

Yes!! I love companion books! It means the HEA isn’t ruined, but we still get to peek in on the couples’ lives again.
Sean and Puck made my list too! And I was so close to picking Adam and Mia as well, though I can definitely imagine what they’re doing. 🙂

Adam and Mia! I would kill to see how those two are doing these days. I know they’re probably happy, but I’d love to see them more settled in as a couple and as adults 😀

Totally agree about the companions! I love catching glimpses like that too. In On the Fence by Kasie West, she mentions Xander and Caymen from The Distance Between Us and it made me SO HAPPY.

Also completely on board with literally anything and everything Rowling could publish in the HP world. Anything. PLEASE GIVE US MORE.

I have no idea why, but for some reason I didn’t add Sean and Puck to my TTT this week. When I was brainstorming for my list, I thought of them, and somehow they didn’t make it onto my list. I sooooo want to check in on them!

I’ve only read Landline and Eleanor & Park, so if it’s not referencing them I wouldn’t have gotten the Easter Egg, but now I really want to know what it is!

I love when author’s reference their own books in other books. I think JLA has done it a few times as well and it always makes me smile. 😀

Sean and Puck! Yes! I just recently read that book and I would love to see what they’re doing now and how Corr is doing. <33

see, i actually have the opposite problem! i usually end up hating companion novels, because I feel like it ruined the ending of the original series/book for me! i think it’s because i always picture where the characters are now in my head and then when the companion novel is not what i pictured i get annoyed lol. i totally agree with your choice of HP though ! ALL OF THE CHARACTERS! in fact, can we just get another HP spin off series J.K. Rowling?! 🙂 great post this week and great choices!

Eleanor and Park from Eleanor and Park totally made my list!! And YES to Adam and Mia! I loved, loved, loved their relationship and it would be awesome to check in with them. I bet they ended up married with cool, musical children. 🙂

What??? Now I need to reread Landline. How did I miss an Easter egg!!!?? I’m so disappointed in my reading skills. Your list however, not disappointed. Harry Potter, great. Landline, great. Gayle Forman…absolutely! I loved Just One Day/Just One Year oh so very much.
