Subscription Box Review: Uppercase Box

Subscription boxes seem to be blowing up lately! I’ve seen more and more become available to the bookish sort which is fantastic because I had never been in quite enough fandoms to consider other non-bookish subscription boxes because I was always worried about the amount of things I wouldn’t actually used/love/enjoy.

Uppercase_Logo_01aWhat is Uppercase Box? UPPERCASE BOX is one of the subscription boxes for bookworms, specifically for YA readers (like me)! It was founded in August 2014 by Lisa Parkin who blogs for Read. Breathe. Relax. and on The Huffington Post. If you’re not familiar with subscription boxes, they’re essentially hand-cultivated boxes (or in Uppercase Box’s case, a gorgeous bag imprinted with the company’s logo) including a variety of goodies for a bookworm like you and in most cases when they’re book-related subscriptions, a copy of that month’s designated book.

How does it work? Visit Uppercase Box to check out their subscription plans. You can join Uppercase Box and subscribe, purchase a gift for someone else, or sign up for just one month (essentially gifting to yourself is the easiest way). There are also three different subscription plans to choose from based on how much you’d like to spend and what sort of goodies you want to receive in your Uppercase Box each month ranging from $17 to $29.
In each Uppercase Box the subscriber receives: a hardcover copy of a YA book (published within the last month or so) that is either signed by the author or comes with a signed bookplate, some book related-swag, and other bookish items usually from gorgeous shops around the community. (If you’re interested in checking out more and examples of these extras, you can see all of the past boxes on Uppercase Box’s website.)
Each book in the Uppercase Box also comes with a “reading experience”! The book is marked with special post-its for Uppercase Box readers to enter a code on the website and view exclusive content related to the book and/or author. I personally think this is such an incredible personal touch to this subscription box and I personally can’t wait to read the hand-selected book with notes leading to all sorts of exciting extras!

The Uppercase Box package that I received was for the month of August and the selected book was REBEL MECHANICS by Shanna Swendson. I’ve personally heard so many good things about it and I’m so excited to read it, especially with Uppercase Box’s exclusive content! This month’s package also included:

  • Signed bookplate
  • Custom bookmarks (the gear attached to the ribbon) to match the cover of REBEL MECHANICS (by @compassrosedesgin)
  • @litographs temporary tattoo
  • An ampersand necklace
  • A notebook and other swag from @swoonreads

I thought the collection of items was just great and really appeals to a wide audience! I think subscription boxes are hard for me because too often it feels like the items won’t be spot on or there are too many things that are awesome but I won’t end up using. Uppercase Box does a great job at selecting things that aren’t just fillers — they’re items you’ll want to collect or show off or use. I really thought that everything included was high quality and exciting and I love that Uppercase Box is about quality not quantity. I know I’d much rather receive something with higher treasured items than a bunch of things just to fill out a box that I won’t end up using.

Although I’m still on the fence about signing myself up for subscription boxes (I’ve pre-ordered too many books at the moment!), I think Uppercase Box is an excellent selection if you’re looking to sign up for one. I’ve looked at the past selections and honestly every single book is one that I have read any loved or have wanted to read. The swag is always amazing and I get swag-envy just looking at these!

TODAY (8/31) is the last day to sign up for the September Uppercase Box (no pressure (go go go)) so hop to it if you’re interested in joining the fun for next month! (You may also be able to sign up on the 1st but today is the technical cut-off!)

I certainly think that Uppercase Box is a pretty good subscription! I got the same one as you did (the one for August), and I thought the contents were pretty great. I was excited about the book and the additional goodies!

This was really helpful. I’ve been debating whether or not to subscribe to a bookish box and so far this seems like the one that would fit me the most. Still doing research but this helped!

I have tried quite a few subscription boxes and I actually think Uppercase is my favorite. I thought Owl Crate would top them all, but they are kind of inconsistent…to me that is. Especially since the last box that I got was a book I had already read (which is always something that could happen). Uppercase does give you only a few items, but like you said, it’s about quality, which is what they provide!

These boxes are always awesome and it’s hard to decide on whether you want to continue or not…

I’ve been waffling about subscription boxes for awhile–it seems like such a silly self indulgence. But they also sound so fun! So I went for it. Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh yay! I hope you enjoy!!! They’re a fun self-indulgence and it’s great to treat yourself every once in a while! Totally worth it.

OH! I haven’t heard of this one! I just subscribed to Owl Crate, but this one sounds appealing for the different subscription plans and prices. And the fact that you say the swag isn;’t filler stuff. I’m going to give Owl Crate a try (since I signed up for 3 months) and then depending on how I feel about the swag and book choices, I may try this one! Thanks! 🙂

I’ve been eyeing Owl Crate too! So glad I could introduce you to Uppercase Box! I’m thinking about hopping on board myself! The packages are just so well done.
