Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!
In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!
Give a big welcome to Jenn from Books and Swoons!
Name & Blog Name: Jenn, Books and Swoons
Tell us a little about your blog! I started Books and Swoons after I graduated college and found myself sort of floundering in a job I wasn’t truly happy in and wanting something to do something for myself. I had stopped reading while in college and once I graduated I went back to my old hobby. A few friends of mine started a book blog and I thought it would be a fun thing to do too. Next thing I know, it a year later, I go to BEA for the first time and my best friend and co-blogger, Nahomi, joins in on the fun.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) Gosh this hard! I guess it would have to be when Nahomi and I did a phone interview with Christina Lauren. It was the first time a publicist asked us if we wanted to help promote a book and author we both love.
Got anything special coming up we should know about? Well we’ve been working on coming up with news ideas for the blog to keep things fresh as well as a way to expand. So I’m definitely saying to check in with us in the new year!
Whatcha reading? Alone in the Dark by Karen Rose
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc): The publisher, Berkley, sent it to me.
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? Before blogging, I used to read a lot of mysteries but I’ve stopped when I have sort of let the blog and a blogging schedule taken over my old reading preferences. So when I saw this book, I thought it sounded like something I used to read and picked it up.
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? I’m only a few pages into the first chapter so I don’t have much to say yet but so far so good!
Whatcha drinking? Coffee with milk. And yes, that is a Central Perk mug that my then-fiance got me for my birthday last year. I’m a huge fan of Friends.
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? I don’t typically drink anything while reading. If I’m reading a physical book having to put the mug down when switching pages slows me down. And if I’m reading on my iPad, I’m too afraid of spilling anything on it. But when I do have a drink while reading, you can typically find me drinking coffee or water.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! Coffee! And white wine. But definitely the coffee. Like my role model Lorelai Gilmore used to say “I can’t stop drinking the coffee. I stop drinking coffee, I stop doing the standing and walking and the words-putting-into-sentence doing.”
What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and (I’m cheating here) anything by Gayle Forman.
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? Well it might not seem like much but I think it was when I went from a blogspot to a .com. It felt so legit because I managed to stick with blogging long enough to make it to this point. Now, I want to continue it by going self hosted.
Anything else you’d like to share? Yes, thanks so much for having me, Brittany!
Thanks, Jenn! That Central Perk mug omgggg. I need it! That’s amazing.
I’m with you! I read tons of mysteries before I started blogging and then I fell into YA and those got pushed aside. I need to read so many more still!
Moving to your own domain is so exciting! Good luck on the plunge to self-hosted! I just adore it 🙂

I’ve never read the book you’re reading. I’m not much of a mystery reader, but props to you for picking that one up despite the pressures of blogging! And I absolutely adore the Central Perk mug. Jealous! Lol it sounds like we actually have a lot in common! I don’t typically drink while I’m reading because it is inconvenient to put down the book and take a drink and then pick up the mug again. Oh, and I love Pride and Prejudice and Gayle Forman as well!
