Book Title Buzzwords | QUEEN

Book Title Buzzwords

I love noticing title trends in the YA world (and in adult books too!) and I can also tell that there are certain words I latch onto. Book Title Buzzwords features books that I’ve read (or want to read) that follow some recent trends!

On this edition of Book Title Buzzwords, we’re getting queenly! I recently finished THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN by Sarah Fine and it got me thinking about all the amazing heroines who end up becoming queens and totally owning that title. Here are some of my favorites!

QUEENLY READS

THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN by Sarah Fine | Simon & Schuster | January 5, 2016

THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN was one fun and wild ride! Sarah Fine did an awesome job at turning the queen/royalty/coming into trope on its head. I loved how Elli is supposed to come into her title and it’s a total given… until her powers refuse to manifest. It was really neat to see that as sort of the opposite to a heroine discovering she has powers. The world-building was a lot of fun, the characters were great, there was a swoony boy, and the ending was so action-packed! I had some pacing issues in the beginning but overall, the book was really so good! This is definitely one to read if you’re a fantasy fan!

QUEEN OF SHADOWS by Sarah J. Maas | Book four in the Throne of Glass series | Bloomsbury Publishing | September 1, 2015

My reaction after reading this book? (Okay, and the whole time while reading…) YESSSS! I love how this series has progressed, how much Sarah J. Maas has truly built it up, and how exciting is still is no matter the page count. I’m usually hesitant to dive into chunky books but give me ALL THE PAGES for this series! I’m totally obsessed and I really think each book just gets better and better. QUEEN OF SHADOWS is my favorite so far and I cannot wait for even more! If you haven’t started this series yet, I cannot recommend it enough! If you weren’t a fan of THRONE OF GLASS for some reason, I think it’s come so far since then and it’s only getting bigger and better!

RED QUEEN by Victoria Aveyard | Book one in the Red Queen trilogy | HarperTeen | February 10, 2015

RED QUEEN had so much hype surrounding it by the time that I read it that I was really scared I wouldn’t like it as much as I had hoped! Although I ended up seeing many pieces of previous reads (like THE HUNGER GAMES and SHADOW AND BONE), I could tell that RED QUEEN was sliding right into those popular dystopian and fantasy tropes and really found a place in so many readers’ hearts! I actually ended up getting so sucked in and it was a pretty exciting read for me! I listened to the audiobook for this book and I really enjoyed the narration and plan to listen to the rest of them on audio too!

QUEEN OF THE TEARLING by Erika Johnasen
I’ve been meaning to read this book since it came out — no, since before it came out — and I don’t know why I haven’t yet!! I do have plans to read it this year though so I’m SUPER excited to finally get around to it! I’ve heard so many good things.

THE ORPHAN QUEEN by Jodi Meadows
So many people just adore these books and now that the second book is coming out in this duology, I have no excuse not to binge read! I should really do that soon…

THE STAR-TOUCHED QUEEN by Roshani Chokshi
This description reminds me a little of THE WRATH AND THE DAWN and I am always up for twists! Fantasy + mythology + beautiful writing? I am so there!

THE SHADOW QUEEN by C.J. Redwine
I’m nervous and excited about THE SHADOW QUEEN. I was the black sheep on C.J. Redwine’s debut series (I actually barely finished the first book) but with a new book/series, I’m always interested to try again. I wasn’t big on the steampunk aspect in the previous series but I always love a good fantasy and this fairy tale vibe that it’s giving off is really pulling me in!

I just finished reading Queen of Shadows by SJ Maas and OMG I AM IN A BOOK HANGOVER! THIS BOOK! I love how the series progressed, how each character developed. I haven’t been this in love with all the characters since HARRY POTTER! Like I literally love each of the characters!

I have been noticing a lot of QUEEN in YA titles. It is good. This word actually catches my eye most of the time…so the publishing gods are doing an awesome job in getting my money! LOL

I’m slightly obsessed with the Queen of the Tearling. I loved that book! I will look forward to your opinion as I wait anxiously for the final book in the trilogy.

I totally fell victim to this! I love “queens” in titles cuz I love the idea of royalty in fantasy novels. I’ve read quite a few of these because of that and I’m super pumped for Star-Touched Queen.

I’ve only read Red Queen, but The Queen of the Tearling is also on my list. I love these posts where you compare titles. It’s very interesting to see what words are popular right now. 🙂

Of the books you listed I’ve only read Queen of Shadows… though quite a few are on my TBR. I’ve also read a couple of older books with Queen in the title (“The Iron Queen” by Julie Kagawa and “Cupcake Queen” by Heather Hepler come to mind) and I have a 2016 release called “The May Queen Murders” on my TBR.

Queen is a very common word for book titles. Great post! 🙂
