TOP TEN TUESDAY
December 27, 2016
It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic was Top Ten Best Books of 2016
Usually choosing a “best of” list for the whole year is really hard… But I feel like 2016 was a little easier than most years! I don’t know if I’m being pickier or just read a number of books that I didn’t jive with but there were some clear winners of 2016 for me and then the rest sort of fell in line. Here are my 2016 choices for best books!
THE LOVE THAT SPLIT THE WORLD by Emily Henry
I totally fell in love with Emily Henry’s debut novel! It was interesting, beautifully written, involved a little time travel/world crossing, and had an epic love.
THE BANDS OF MOURNING by Brandon Sanderson
I am a huuuuge Mistborn fan and I gobble these books up as soon as they’re released. Things picked up incredibly with the 6th book in the Mistborn world and I just loved the audio (as always).
THE CROWN’S GAME by Evelyn Skye
I was immediately whisked away by the magic of this book and the intense love for the characters shortly followed. This was one of my favorite debuts of 2016 and I can’t wait for its sequel!
REBEL OF THE SANDS by Alwyn Hamilton
REBEL OF THE SANDS was my other favorite 2016 debut and although it really wasn’t like SHADOW AND BONE at all, its tone and characters kind of reminded me of the spunk, confidence, and excellence of Leigh Bardugo’s characters. I can’t wait to get more of everything in this series!
THE RAVEN KING by Maggie Stiefvater
I actually don’t think THE RAVEN KING is my favorite of the Raven Cycle (that honor probably goes to BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE) but this series favorite is in my top ten of 2016 list because I can’t get enough of these characters. Everything is amazing and I may have issues with series enders but I still loved THE RAVEN KING from start to finish!
P.S. I LIKE YOU by Kasie West
Kasie West is one of my favorite Queens of Contemporary and PS I LIKE YOU almost took the top spot of Kasie West books in my line-up… But I think I still like ON THE FENCE just a bit more. This book was so darn cute, so much fun, and just a delight all around.
GEMINA by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
I waiting in line at BEA for three hours, give or take, for an ARC of GEMINA and it was totally. worth it. Aime Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are pure geniuses with this series and I loved how it was a sequel and companion all at the same time, plus the mind-blowing twists and turns!
THE ELEMENTAL TRILOGY by Sherry Thomas
I binge-read this trilogy on audio this year so I’m including all three books because I couldn’t get enough of them! I loved the worth, LOVED the characters, and LOVED the romance. It was sheer excellence.
CROOKED KINGDOM by Leigh Bardugo
What would a top ten list be without Leigh Barudgo? CROOKED KINGDOM was such an amazing follow-up to SIX OF CROWS and I loved the series closer in book two instead of it going on to a trilogy. These characters, this setting, the banter, the gang… it’s all utter perfection. Leigh Bardugo makes me laugh, cry, cheer, and shout!
STALKING JACK THE RIPPER by Kerri Maniscalco
STALKING JACK THE RIPPER appealed to me on a different level than some of the other books on my top ten list because it just had that overall feel of a book I connected with rather than pulling specific things out here and there. I just loved the mystery, the feel, the strong female character, the darkness, and the romance. Kerri Maniscalco is also a delight and such a wonderful author to chat and work with. I cannot wait for the continuation of adventures for these characters in the next book!

I loved P.S. I Like You! Definitely one of my favorite books in 2016! And I need to try The Elemental Trilogy, it looks good! 🙂
I loved Crooked Kingdom, I’m so glad I got to read it right after Six of Crows! The wait would have been terrible haha. Loved TRK, PS I Like You, and Rebel of the Sands too. The sequel is going to be so exciting!
I also had a super easy time with my list, and Crooked Kingdom is on mine as well! I still need to read P.S. I Like You.
I still have to read so many of these!! I agree about TRK too.
I was definitely pickier this year I think. It was a lot easier than usual to pick out favorites for the year, for some reason! I just didn’t have as many books really WOW me.
I haven’t read any of these but The Raven King is on my Kindle and ready to go! Great list!
PS I Like You was my first Kasie West book and I loved it. I read the Distance Between Us right after and I adored that too!
I’m looking forward to reading THE CROWN’S GAME
I really loved Crooked Kingdom too! I’ve been wanting to read The Crown’s Game since before its release, yet somehow haven’t gotten around to it yet. I must do it now, after seeing it on your list! The same goes for Stalking Jack the Ripper…
Great list!
