It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.
Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, can their love survive through the ever night?
Let me start off by saying that thank GOODNESS I didn’t throw this book under the category of “Second Book Syndrome”, a phenomenon in which I read trilogies (somehow usually dystopians) and I’m just so lost in the second book. Too many times book two features the the hero and heroine after they got separated in book one and they spend all of book two on an epic quest to reunite (sound familiar?). WELL. THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT does have some of those elements but at the same time, it was so entirely different from the typical Book Two.
I’m so happy with the way that the book went. We were already familiar with the characters, with the setting, and with the conflicts at hand. In TtEN, I really got to know the characters even better, specifically Aria. She’s toughened up quite a bit and I really liked the new take-charge attitude that she has.
Of course I LOVE that we got to see more of Roar. I think he’s one of the most dynamic characters in this series and I really enjoyed hearing more about him and his past. I actually like him more than I like Perry! He’s so lively and just plain likable that I’ve found myself connecting with him as a character much more than I ever connected with Perry.
TtEN is full of action and Veronica Rossi does an amazing job of giving her readers a very realistic and visual portrayal of her characters and the struggles they face. There were definitely a couple of great twists (including one very shocking moment that I actually kind of saw coming but somehow was still surprised nonetheless) as well as a lot of questions answered which was really nice! Too many times I feel like more questions are introduced and we just get more of a mystery going on, but TtEN gives us even more history, specifically from Roar and Liv. I haven’t read the Roar and Liv novella yet either and now I’m even more curious to read it.
Another thing I could say is that since we spend so much time in the Tides and the “outside” world, I almost felt like THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT had an overall epic fantasy feel to it more so than a dystopian feel. Now that we’re past most of our time in Reverie, it’s lost a little sci-fi and gained a little more fantasy. The thought didn’t even cross my mind in book one, but if you’re not a dystopian fan, this actually might be a good series to try!
I think the only complaint I have about this book isn’t really much of a complaint at all — Only that I didn’t quite fall in love with it like I had hoped. I actually had a bit of this feeling with UNDER THE NEVER SKY come to think of it… I really enjoyed it quite a bit, but I was just waiting for that tiiiiny bit of something extra to make me fall in love with it.
Aria: I loved Aria in this book! I felt like her character has grown so much since Under the Never Sky. She’s not only learned how to survive in the “Outside” but she’s now thriving, developing her ability as an Aud. In UtNS, Aria was very naive immediately after leaving Reverie so it was such a pleasure to see her grow so much. She matured quite a lot!
Perry: Perry was kind of the same for me. We learned a bit more about him and his relationship with his family, but I didn’t feel like I got a whole lot more from him in this book. I would say one of the things I did like seeing from him was how he fell into the role of Blood Lord and finally gained loyalty from his tribe.
Roar: Roar!!!! I love Roar. He’s definitely my favorite character of this series and the one I’ve felt that really jumps off the page and seems like a genuinely real person. He’s funny, loud, loyal, friendly, honest – Definitely a character I’ve been on board with since the beginning. I love that in TtEN we get even more of Roar’s history and he becomes much more of a main character of the story than just Perry’s sidekick.
BUY IT!
I loved THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT. I really enjoyed UtNS but this one really stepped it up a notch! I was just wholly invested and thrilled.

I’m really excited for more Roar! I thought Under the Never Sky was all right, but I didn’t *love* it like almost everyone else seemed to, but I’ve heard this book is even better, so I’m hoping maybe I’ll get into this series as much as most seem to have.
I really hope you enjoy it!!!! 🙂
I SO SO SO SO SO cannot wait for this book to come out out. I am so happy there’s more of Roar! I love him! And the fact that you think this is better than UtNS makes me even more excited that I already am, if that’s even possible. Great review!
YAY! I really enjoyed it!! Hope you’ll love it too!!
