Top Ten Tuesday – June 26, 2012: Top Ten Characters Who Remind Me Of Myself Or Someone I Know In Real Life

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish I hope will be a fun one!

Top Ten Characters Who Remind Me Of Myself Or Someone I Know In Real Life

1. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series: Hermione is the first person that pops to mind! Granted, I’ve never had to put my bravery to the test like she had, but I was one of those kids who liked school and actually enjoyed learning, and maaaybe I was a bit of a know-it-all at times… Whoops. At least I wasn’t one of those “Hey you forgot to collect the homework” kids though 🙂 I totally identify with her inner geek side – Always a learner! Oh and I love Ron. I’d totally go for the goofy, fun-loving guy and I’d actually take pride in the fact that I’d be able to help him out with school and things like that!

2. Stephanie Plum: I sort of identify with Stephanie Plum on her knack of getting into trouble habits! I don’t get myself into nearly as much as Stephanie does, but it’s the random accidents that make me think, “Yep, been there” or “That would totally happen to me!” As well as her affinity for junk food and a poorly stocked kitchen. Although I don’t go to the extremes, I totally see myself in her shoes constantly.

3. Rae from The Spellman series: Okay, this one mostly has to do with the name! Rae, Izzy’s younger sister, was named after her Uncle Ray, but for me, it’s a nickname for my next door neighbor Rachael. I grew up next door to her since she was 4 and I was 8 and she’s the only Rae I’ve ever known, so I can’t help but picture her in that role as I read the books! Especially since she’s almost exactly the same age as the character is supposed to be with the release of the 5th book (Trail of the Spellmans) released back in February. The personality of Rae Spellman is maybe a bit more devious than the Rae I know, but close enough that I can still mix the two into one!

4. Abby Cooper from the Psychic Eye mysteries: Okay, so it’s actually not a personality match in the least, but Abby reminds me of my mom in the sense that my mom is very into the psychic stuff. She’s not a psychic herself or anything, but she likes the idea of being able to communicate with the other side, the fact that people do have those abilities, and that our deceased loved ones and spirits from the other side can help guide us. Whenever I read about Abby using her abilities, I always think of how my mom would use those signs and messages!

5. Becky from the Shopaholic series: Becky totally reminds me of my friend Michelle! Michelle isn’t out of control with her spending in anyway, but it’s the logic and the reasoning behind it that I see the similarities! Becky makes excuses for spending so much money because it’s for a friend’s birthday or something that the home really needs to perfectly complete the space, for example, and Michelle does the same thing! Overspending on someone because it’s for a good person, and more specifically, spending tons of money on decorations/food/snacks/beverages for parties (especially decorations) when it’s a small party for only a couple of hours!

6. The Rosso Family from Ten Kids, No Pets & Eleven Kids One Summer: Along with the awesome series The Baby-Sitter’s Club (or the BSC as we knew it), Ann M. Martin also wrote these two books about a family with 10 kids (with the addition of the baby in the 2nd for 11 total) and I always pictured it as my mom’s family. She’s the 8th of 11 kids (10 natural and the last one adopted), so I always picture it as the Bauer family instead of the Rosso family with my grandparents as the parents in the book!

7. Jacob from the Twilight series: A couple years back, probably around the time when Eclipse came out in the theaters, I had myself a Bella-Jacob situation with a kid at my work, Pepe. He liked me a lot and I liked him a lot, but I kept trying really hard to keep him in the friend zone! I was kind of seeing another guy at the time (using “kind of” very loosely as I may or may not have been that guy’s Jacob in the Bella-Jacob relationship situation), but Pepe was really persistent and despite the fact that he did have a crush on me, we were still pretty good friends and had a great time hanging out. I actually thought he looked kind of like Jacob’s friend Embry in the movie, so that got this whole scenario spinning in my head in which I related Pepe to Jacob… Things didn’t end the same (I’m no vampire and he’s no wolf, of course), but we’re still friends.

8. Jo and Amy from Little Women: When I first read Little Women as a young lady, I always saw my sister as Jo and me as Amy. I did that a lot when I was reading books – I always appointed my sister and I as the sisters in stories (when there were sisters). I thought my sister was like Jo because she was a tomboy with a but of a hot temper at times, but she was an awesome big sister, and she was brunette (at least in the movie – I can’t remember the book). I was Amy just because I was the younger one, blonde, and naive.

9. Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower:  I’m reminded of one of my (old) best friends and former next-door neighbor/6th grade ex-boyfriend Steve – I think mostly I’m reminded of him because he loaned me the book way back in the day and I still feel nostalgic for that silly 6th grade romance and how good we had it as kids back then! It may be cheating a little bit since not much of the actual character reminds me of Steve, but with lots of memories tied to the book, I can’t help but make the connection and deem it list-worthy.

10. Kristy and Stacey from The Baby-Sitter’s Club series: Yep, here was another one I compared my sister and myself to – Another brunette tomboy (Kristy) = my sister, and the blonde (Stacey) was me. I guess as a kid, I didn’t have to go farther than hair color to identify with a character! 🙂

Totally with you on Charlie. I feel like he was never comfortable in his own skin, like so many of us are. Additionally, he was completely his own person and even though it was confusing, he owned it.

I love that you included Kristy and Stacey from The Babysitter’s Club! I adored that series when I was younger. I think Jo from Little Women was a brunette in the book as well 🙂

Awesome list! Stacey was my favourite babysitter. I was most like Mary Ann, but Stacey was still my favourite. Hermione was someone I meant to put on my list too, but ran out of space.

Charlie from Perks is a great choice! I also have a lot of strong memories from the particular period of my life when I read that book. One of my friends had a copy of it and loaned it to about 30 people in our high school, and each person left a little note in it. I’d love to take a look at what we all wrote back then! 😉

Haha, I love how you compare yourself to characters based on hair color. I pretty much do that too. Hey, she has (insert whatever trait similar to mine)! She is EXACTLY like me!

I love how a lot of the characters you chose are main characters, but also secondary characters like Hermoine, and Jacob. I love Hermoine, I used to be so excited when people though my childhood picture looked like her.
