TGIF – August 3, 2012

It’s time for TGIF again, thanks to Ginger at GReads!

So this week’s TGIF topic is:
Book Olympics: In the spirit of the Olympics, which books would you give the gold, silver, and bronze medals to? It can be from any genre, new or old.

Oh, that’s really hard! I have to pick my top three favorite books… of all time??? Sheesh okay. Well… I’m cheating. Kind of. In the Olympics there are medals for each category/event in each sport right? So that’s what I’m doing too.

The winners for the YA paranormal/dystopia category:

Gold: Sweet Evil – Wendy Higgins
Silver: The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins
Bronze: Delirium – Lauren Oliver

The winners for the YA contemporary category:

Gold: If I Stay – Gayle Forman
Silver: The Sky Is Everywhere – Jandy Nelson
Bronze: Jellicoe Road – Melina Marchetta

The winners for the Middle Grade category:

Gold: The Giver – Lois Lowry
Silver: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – JK Rowling
Bronze: Walk Two Moons – Sharon Creech

The winners for the Mystery category:

Gold: To The Nines – Janet Evanovich
Silver: 1st to Die – James Patterson
Bronze: Vengeance In Death – JD Robb

Yay, that was tons of fun! Another great TGIF from Ginger!!
I can’t wait to see what everyone else chooses!

My favorite of the Stephanie Plum series is definitely Hot Six. I rarely laugh out loud while reading books, but that one had me *howling*. Nice to see another “In Death” fan out there, as well! Hate Nora Roberts, love JD Robb, conflicted because they’re the *same person*. 😀

Hot Six is definitely in my list of favorite Stephanie Plums too!!
I’m the same! I actually haven’t tried any Nora Roberts, so I guess I can’t say that I don’t like her, but I much prefer the mystery than the heavy romance plots! Although who doesn’t love Roarke 🙂

I’ve read a couple of Nora Roberts (my mother was a big fan of passing anything she read in my direction…and sometimes I’d just be desperate enough for new material that I’d read it), and they’re your typical formula romance, so you aren’t missing *anything*. 😀

Great picks! I loooooved your paranormal/dystopia category! I totally agree, although I would have switched THG with SE. Thanks for stopping by!

Freaking awesome graphics need to get If I Stay & Jellicoe Road off my shelf and get them read. Need to get a hold of Sweet Evil on your recommendation.

I think I’m most impressed by the medal stands you used. Nice! And I also find it somewhat ironic/amusing that The Hunger Games won a sort of “book games.”

I seriously love your pics with the podiums… I was thinking it would be cool to do something like that, but got lazy and didn’t.

You’ve got a lot of good choices on here… I haven’t read Walk Two Moons since middle school, but I remember loving it way back then. Might be time to track it down for a reread!

Thanks! I had some extra time at work… lol
I’ve been thinking the same thing! I’ve been meaning to reread it because I loved it as a kid!

Your paranormal column had awesome books! I need to read all of the other ones, definitely try If I Stay soon if I can borrow a copy from the library. Great lists and I love the little Podiums you have, so cute!

Thank you!! Omg, if you haven’t read Sweet Evil yet, stop everything and go read it! It’s amazing!! 🙂 And If I Stay is still one of my favorite reads so far this year. It’s really good!
