Top Ten Tuesday – August 21, 2012: Top Ten Favorite Books You’ve Read During The Lifespan Of Your Blog

It’s Top Ten Tuesday again, hosted by the awesome ladies at The Broke and the Bookish.

This Week’s Topic: Top Ten Favorite Books You’ve Read During The Lifespan Of Your Blog

Okay, so my blog isn’t that old, but honestly, it’s helped me find some of my favorite books ever as well as some awesome ones for the time it’s been around.
To put a tiny spin on it, I’m going to use books that I’ve found only thanks to blogging and that I probably wouldn’t have known about otherwise!

1. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins – I know, I know. I’m sure you’re sick of me talking it up! But I really, really loved this book and wouldn’t have known about it if it wasn’t for Amber at Fall Into Books! She organized the Sweet Evil blog tour (going on now! My stop, September 1st) which I signed up for before I’d even read the book. I wanted to do a few more blog tours and start really getting into new things. I read the book for the blog tour and fell in love with it!

Contributing Bloggers: Amber @ Fall Into Books

2. If I Stay/Where She Went by Gayle Forman: I actually found Where She Went first based off of someone’s recommendation for a “new adult” book and read about it on Goodreads. I liked the premise so I checked out If I Stay and fell in love with Gayle Forman’s writing!

Contributing Bloggers: Ginger @ GReads, Tee @ YA Crush

3. Graceling by Kristin Cashore – I’m usually not a high fantasy person so this was really one of the first books I chose thanks to blogger recommendations that was really outside of my realm of normal reading. I’m glad that I wasn’t disappointed! It was a lot of fun to read and I didn’t feel lost in it at all.

Contributing Bloggers: Candice @ The Grown-Up YA, Alison @ The Cheap Reader

4. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers – This is another one I was hesitant about. Assassin nuns? Historical fiction? France? Royal politics? But yes to all of the above! Don’t even hesitate. This was a great book, and I really liked it so much more than I ever could have expected.

Contributing Bloggers: Reut @ Reutreads, Candice @ The Grown-Up YA, Meg @ Coffee & Wizards, Alyssa @ Books Take You Places

5. The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson – Trying my hand at contemporary YA after so many dystopians, this one was not disappointing!!

Contributing Bloggers: Candice @ The Grown-Up YA, Alexandra @ Alexandra’s Scribblings, Maria @ Reading is the Ultimate Aphrosdisiac

6. Wither/Fever by Lauren DeStefano – This was another time I got further into the dystopians. I really liked Wither (ignoring some gaping plot holes), and actually picked up Fever due to the hype of Sever‘s cover reveal!

Contributing Bloggers: Lauren DeStefano herself, everyone who got excited for Sever

7. One Moment by Kristina McBride – One Moment was my first NetGalley! It was a ‘read now’ so they didn’t even have to approve me (because I’m sure they wouldn’t have).

Contributing Bloggers: The first reviewers I saw who mentioned NetGalley as their source. Sorry, I have no idea who it was!

8. Of Poseidon by Anna Banks – I had never even heard of Anna Banks before the Fierce Reads Tour (sorry, Anna) so when I saw on someone’s blog (okay, again… seriously apologize for not remembering who. Obviously someone who was close enough to Naperville to attend) that the Fierce Reads tour was literally minutes away from my house that I knew I had to go!

Contributing Bloggers: I’m so sorry I forgot who you were 🙁

9. Such A Rush by Jennifer Echols – A great contemporary read and I really loved it! Of course I saw this one everywhere, but there are a few that pop in my mind.

Contributing Bloggers: Ginger @ GReads, Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books, and of course the person I won it from thanks to their contest: Lucy @ The Reading Date

10. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta – Three words: Jonah effing Griggs

Contributing Bloggers: Tee @ YA Crush (of course), Candice @ The Grown-Up YA

Jonah Effing Griggs baby! 🙂 I am so overdue for a reread. I love your list. I think I should really, really read Grave Mercy. Must add to the TBR!

    1. Brittany

Yeah, I definitely need to reread Jellicoe Road! I think I’d love it so much more after working it all out the first time.
Yay, read Grave Mercy!!!! It’s great!

  2. Jennifer

Loved If I Stay/Where she went so much! She has 2 new ones coming up, and I can’t wait for them!
Graceling is so fabulous. Have you read the companion books?
I can’t wait to read Such a Rush! So many people gush about it…I need to get my hands on it soon 🙂

    1. Brittany

Oh, I hope you love Such A Rush! I really didn’t let me down with all the gushing reviews I’ve seen for it!
I did see that Gayle Forman has new books coming out in 2013!!! I can’t wait! Those are definitely ones I’ll pick up right away.
I haven’t read the Graceling companion books yet, but I did pick up Fire on sale at the bookstore a couple weeks ago. I’m hoping to get to it soon! 🙂
Thanks so much for the wonderful comments!

Assassin nuns? WHY HAVE I NOT READ THIS BOOK YET??? Grave Mercy, on the “to get” list RIGHT NOW. Holy crap.

  4. Lucy

So glad you loved Such a Rush – Yay! I’ll be reading Of Poseidon soon so I’m excited to see it on your list. And you’re reminding me of so many other books I still need to read like Grave Mercy and Sweet Evil. Thanks for sharing your awesome list!

    1. Brittany

Yay, I’m so glad you liked it! Grave Mercy and Sweet Evil are definitely some of my top reads this year- And ones I was surprised by! 🙂 Thanks for checking it out!

  5. Gone Pecan

oh how I love Ms Forman’s books!! I couldn’t get into Grave Mercy but I think it was mainly because of my current reading mood. I still have it as TBR. As far as Jellicoe Rd I know Tee is still not happy I haven’t gotten to that one. ~Maggie

I could see not being able to get into Grave Mercy. It certainly wasn’t what I expected, but I got really into it once it got going!.
Truthfully? I had a hard time getting into Jellicoe Road. I was suuuper confused in the beginning and I had a hard time straightening out the characters so I think it really affected my enjoyment of the book a lot. Someday when I have a ton of time (HA!) I’d like to go back and reread it now that I have everything straight.

  6. Vyki

Great list! I have read some of them, but some I really need to because I keep seeing them all over the blogs. This was a hard list to do!

  7. Livvy @Nerdy Book Reviews

Ahhh, Graceling. I don’t think I quite loved that one to call it five stars and a favourite, but it was a wonderful book!
Of Poseidon is on my wishlist and looks quite exciting.
    Great list.
    My TTT.

I really enjoyed Of Poseidon – I think not quite as much as I wanted to, but it had a couple of twists that I TOTALLY didn’t expect!

    1. Brittany

Thanks! And same here! I think most of the books I’ve read this year (well, since April) have been thanks to bloggers 🙂 I thought I should give them some credit!

  8. Sarah @ Breaking the Binding

I’ve only read a few books that are on your list, but there are others that are high on my TBR pile. “Such a Rush” is the one I think I am most anxious to read!
