The Deja Vu Review is a new Sunday feature with mini-reviews from books I’ve read before I began my blog at The Book Addict’s Guide! Since I’ve been reading my whole life and only started my blog back in April of 2012, this is my opportunity to revisit some older books and share some mini-reviews of those that didn’t quite make it into the blog spotlight after the initial read.
This Week’s Topic: A foreign book/book from another country
Don Juan Tenorio by José Zorrilla
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Read: Spring of 2009 (or somewhere close to that)
Country: Spain
Comments: Read for my Spanish lit class back in college. It was actually a lot of fun to read because it was pure comedy. A brief summary is that Don Juan and Don Luis are competing against each other as only men could: who could “conquer” more women and kill more men in one year (barbaric, I know, but it’s a comedy, so follow me here). Things get tricky when both men meet up again and find out they’re both engaged (to different women) – so then it becomes a quest to seduce the other guy’s woman. Wow, explaining the plot is super scandalous, but the play (I think it was written as a play) is really funny.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Read: November 2010
Country: Sweden
Comments (This was my original GoodReads review): People were not kidding about this book. It was fantastic! True, the beginning starts out a little slow, but once you get into the guts of the book and the actual mystery of the story, it’s impossible to put down. I read 500 pages in one day. The character development was very interesting and I felt like I had very vivid pictures of the places and things that were going on. It was a very good read and I’m excited to continue on in the series!
Aww my little retro review there!
Hope you enjoyed this week’s topic!

I have that on my TBR and I need to open the darn thing! So many folks have read and enjoyed and 5 stars!! Dang, maybe soon. 🙂 I enjoy the retro reviews!
Thanks! I really do think the book was great, and I liked it SO much more than the movie! I couldn’t put the book down 🙂
I really want to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but there is certain scenes I don’t want to read, so I have put it off a bit. I have already seen both versions of the movie.
I actually started the English movie and turned it off. It was boring once I knew how the book went, actually! And it was so much better as a book than a movie, really. But I totally understand! It was harsh.
Hi Brittany. I’m trying to post my link for Deja Vu Review, but I can’t seem to. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or not. Any ideas? Sorry for the silly comment.
Not silly at all! I just looked at it and I think it’s the wrong link. I’m not at home now so I’ll have to fix it later. Sorry 🙁
Hi Quinn – Sorry, I just fixed it (I think). Sorry I’m a doof lol
This was a great series! Lisbeth is one of my all time favorite characters.
