The Deja Vu Review [24]: A Fantasy

The Deja Vu Review is a new Sunday feature with mini-reviews from books I’ve read before I began my blog at The Book Addict’s Guide! Since I’ve been reading my whole life and only started my blog back in April of 2012, this is my opportunity to revisit some older books and share some mini-reviews of those that didn’t quite make it into the blog spotlight after the initial read.

This week’s topic:  A fantasy

The Looking Glass Wars (The Looking Glass Wars, #1)The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor
My Original Rating: 4 of 5 stars
My Original Goodreads Review: Very interesting twist on the classic Alice in Wonderland tale. I like how it was intentionally different, making Wonderland a real place which Alice must claim back from her vicious aunt who stole the throne back from Alice’s mother. Very creative, quick read which keeps you reading until the end.
Comments: Thinking back on it, this is the first re-telling I ever read (took me til 2010… Unless I’m missing something I can’t think of) and I loved it! I think I actually gave it a 4.5 star rating (or I would like to now) because I loved this take on Alice in Wonderland. I was never a big Alice fan so I was really impressed with this! I’ve had the second book Seeing Redd on my shelf for a while… Maybe I should get to it!!

I loved that one too! I enjoyed Seeing Redd because she is such a crazy super villain, Alice was a little meh in that one though. (I thought) I still have the third one on my shelf to read…I should pick that up!

I haven’t read this one but it sounds fun! I’ve actually never read Alice in Wonderland, but it’s not bad to start with a retelling is it? Hope not. I just added it to goodreads. Thanks! 🙂

I remember this one! I gave it the same rating as you. I thought it was such an interesting concept. I don’t read many retellings, but I loved this one so much. I didn’t read the rest of the series, though I do have Seeing Redd on my shelf as well haha.
