Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!

In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!

Let’s all say hello to Candice from The Grown-Up YA!

TheBlog

Name & Blog Name: Candice @ The Grown-Up YA
Tell us a little about your blog! The Grown-Up YA is a book blog for YA books. I do reviews, participate in book tours, have discussion posts and really just talk about all things bookish!
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) I’m going to cheat and put 3 on here. These aren’t anything super deep… just silly posts that I’ve written that always make me smile!

My letter to Peeta
Top Ten Emo Book Covers
Top Ten Books to save if there is a Zombiepocolypse
Got anything special coming up we should know about? A few things! First is my Travel by Book feature I’m going to be doing sporadically. The basic concept is picking a travel destination and listing books that are set in that destination. I did my first one the other day in honor of BEA coming up! I’m also going to be doing a very low-key ARC/NetGalley/Edelweiss clean up during the month of June so I can read/review all the books that have been piling up. It’s nothing official, but everyone is welcome to join in! And finally, I’ve got my leg of the Gayle Forman read-along (hosted by Brittany!) coming up at the end of July!

Whatcha reading? The Testing! I’ve had this for a little while now so I’m excited to get to it!
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) I think I “won” it from Shelf Awareness? Or maybe I requested it from a link on there? I’ve gotta start remembering when I do this! Essentially, it came from the publisher though. Thanks publisher!
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? I actually just started it the morning I decided to take the picture. So… no special reason. 🙂
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? I can’t really say if there’s anything important yet; I’m only on chapter 2. Basically, it’s being compared to The Hunger Games, which drew me in initially. I would recommend it, however, because so far, it’s pretty good!

Whatcha drinking? COFFEEEEEE!!! So it’s not really special. But it’s early and I needed caffeine! But what’s special about it is that I made it using my new French press. Which, if you haven’t seen me raving about it, is my new favorite kitchen gadget. I seriously love it!
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? I’m just gonna say water. Yes, it’s lame, but lately that’s all I’ve been drinking. I’m not really a fan of hot drinks (I let my coffee get more warm than hot before drinking), so things like hot tea, cocoa and coffee are out. I don’t drink a lot of soda… I don’t know how to make a good glass of iced sweet tea (shocking, considering I live in the South)… So… yeah. Water. mmm
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! Iced mint tea from Hooligan’s (a local restaurant). Seriously, it’s the best. If we’re going with a more adult beverage, I’ll say rum and Sprite with a cherry. Let me explain this one: I don’t drink dark sodas, but I like rum. Hence, rum and Sprite. The cherry just makes it pretty.

Bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Can I suggest series? I’m going to suggest series. 1) The Graceling series – seriously, if you like fantasy, this is the series for you. 2) Percy Jackson – I like recommending this to people who say their older kids/younger teens don’t like to read. Or even to older teens/younger adults who don’t like to read.  3) The Princess Diaries – soooo relatable! Even if you’ve never discovered you were the heir to the throne of a small principality, Mia is very easy to relate to.
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? Well, there was that one time when Meg Cabot followed me on Twitter. But honestly, I think my proudest moment was when I got my first blog comment. I just made me think “Wow! Someone is reading my blog and thought enough of my review to comment on it!” While comments are now (almost) a daily occurrence, it’s constantly humbling to know that people follow my blog and actually respect/enjoy what I write.
Anything else you’d like to share? I think I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention one of my favorite things about blogging – The Selective Collective. These gals (including Brittany!) have become some of my actual besties – not just blogging besties. If you don’t know what The Selective Collective is, it is a group of 7 bloggers (5 blogs) who review upcoming books in a totally unique way. Through a review, a round table discussion, an author interview, a casting call, and a fun freebie, we help to spread the word about really fun upcoming books. If you don’t already follow us, you definitely should!

Thanks, Candice!!! I feel the blogger love! And such fun answers! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

Coffee forever! I’m sort of a caffeine addict (as in I try to control myself, but usually end up having a cup every day). I really should kick that habit because it’s not always healthy — and it’s expensive since I don’t normally brew it at home! I love my coffee though 😉

Yay! A fellow coffee fiend. We have been thinking about getting a french press thingie but I’m scared we just don’t have the room for something extra. CANDICE, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS?

One of my favorite things to do when I visit my mom is to make coffee and throw some Starbucks liqueur in there. So good 🙂 Looking forward to following all your upcoming features, C!

Since it’s just me, I got a small 1 cup one. It takes up less space than a coffee mug (said in my best infomercial voice)! Way less room than my giant coffee pot did. I guess you just have to ask yourself if you want to give up your coffee maker to make room for a French press. The only downside, if you’re a multiple cup drinker, is that they’re not very big. I wanna say the biggest one I saw probably would get you 3 cups. I love mine because it opened counter space for me! AND since it’s made of glass, there’s not any plastic chemicals leeching into my coffee!

I think it is the coolest thing when famous authors follow you on twitter or RT or reply to your mention. Makes me feel so special : ) Great feature!
