It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic: Top Ten Worlds I’d Never Want To Live In
PANEM
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) – Suzanne Collins
Mockingjay (The Hunger Games #3) – Suzanne Collins
Let’s be honest. No one wants to live in Panem as much as we love The Hunger Games. I guess I wouldn’t be eligible for the reaping NOW but still. Do I really want to live there? No. And according to online quizzes, I’d live in Distrcit 9. I guess I’d get to hang out with grain but no one honestly cares about District 9. In The Hunger Games AND Catching Fire both of the their tributes are nameless… I don’t know what that says about me but I think I’ll pass!
Futuristic Portland, Maine
Requiem (Delirium #3) – Lauren Oliver
I loved Delirium (and well, I enjoyed the other two books but not as much) but no WAY I’d want to live in a place without love. That’s just… creepy. And wrong.
Vaughn Mansion
Wither (The Chemical Garden #1) – Lauren DeStefano
Fever (Chemical Garden #2) – Lauren DeStefano
Sever (The Chemical Gardens #3) – Lauren DeStefano
Don’t let the pretty house fool you. Housemaster Vaughn’s mansion is a CREEPY CREEPY place!!! Also, I wouldn’t even exist in this world since females don’t live older than 20… I’d like to be alive!
Caste-system America
Pawn (Blackcoat Rebellion #1) – Aimee Carter
I’d like to think I have a good shot at taking the test and getting a high ranking and therefore getting more luxuries in life… But what if I didn’t? What if my family members didn’t? What if I ended up ELSEWHERE somehow!? No, thanks.
Alien-invaded America
The 5th Wave – Rick Yancey
ALIENS WHO LOOK LIKE HUMANS WHO YOU CAN’T TRUST WHO WILL EITHER TAKE OVER YOUR BODY OR KILL YOU. Need I say more?
Kersh
Dualed (Dualed #1) – Elsie Chapman
I really, really, really do not want to have to kill my Alt. I think I’d be the one who dies, if we’re just being honest.
Post-Apocalyptic Monument, Colorado
Monument 14 (Monument 14 #1) – Emmy Laybourne
Monument 14: Sky on Fire (Monument 14 #2) – Emmy Laybourne
Chemicals flying around the sky, killing you or maiming you. Rush to the Denver airport to find safety. Chemical tornado. Thaaanks but no thanks.
Enclaves & Topside, New York City
Enclave (Razorland #1) – Ann Aguirre
I’d just rather not live in the sewers to never see the light of day OR topside where I could be eaten by savages.
Thurmond
The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds #1) – Alexandra Bracken
Thurmond sounds god awful and poor, poor Ruby. She had it so bad there. I honestly got the creeps and the shivers and you name it just reading about her time there!
Mia’s Limbo
If I Stay (If I Stay #1) – Gayle Forman
If I Stay Re-read
I would never, ever want to be stuck in limbo like Mia was. Do you stay… or do you go? The choice is too big.
So many places in books I’d never want to be… But hey, I still love reading about them!

oh my god Brittany I love what you did with this post! I LOVE the pictures! I already though the Razorland series was super creepy but after seeing that picture and inserting freaks into it *shudders*. I wouldn’t want to live in ANY of these places that’s for sure.
Um, seriously, anyone who wants to live in Panem is nuts. I would NEVER want to have to suffer the reaping, and see loved ones leave or have to kill people if I were chosen. I also feel the same way about the world in Pawn, because ranking people by one set of tests is just completely unfair (since we’re all different and skilled in a variety of things).
Ooh your limbo pick is a really good one! I’m probably the only person who didn’t love If I Stay. But I would have hated to have been in Mia’s position.
I definitely agree with regard to Panem, Portland (of Delirium), America (of Pawn), and world (of The 5th Wave). No way would I be okay with living in any of those worlds!
Basically any dystopian or post-apocalyptic world…I would die very early on. Love the pictures!
Hunger Games, Delirium, Wither, and Pawn were on my list too! I would be the first tribute to die if I got reaped. Although I guess you’re right, I wouldn’t be eligible for the reaping anymore.. But seriously not a world I would want to live in. I love the way you did your graphics this week!
Great places! You did a great job on each of the places as well!
I think this is the great thing about reading — that we can EXPERIENCE these places without having to LIVE in them!
Once again you have some awesome pictures to accompany your answers! I can agree with all of these. I did not even think of Enclave. I would hate to live underground, not just because of the sewers but the lack of light. I need the sun!
Great list. I absolutely would not want to be in limbo like Mia is, I wouldn’t be able to handle it. I would hate living in Panem too, especially if it was in one of the poorer districts.
Yes to all of these! We share some picks this week. 🙂 I didn’t even think of The Darkest Minds but that totally should have made my list. I have seen Dualed mentioned a few times today, I think I’ll have to add that to my ever-expanding wish list.
Great list. It’s crazy to me to think that there are talks of a Hunger Games Theme park. I love The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I will not be going to the Hunger Games theme Park. No thank you. I just don’t get it.
Good choice with limbo, too. I agree with that, too. Poor Mia.
Happy reading!

So many great picks! I wouldn’t want to live in the worlds of The Hunger Games or The Darkest Minds!
Panem and the world from The 5th Wave made my list, too. I somehow forgot that the aliens take on human form, that makes me even happier I put it on my list! Mia from If I Stay is a great call. I definitely couldn’t handle being in limbo and not getting to interact with my friends and family.
There’s no way I would ever want to be in Vaughn’s mansion! Not only because it’s creepy and he is creepy and horrible, but like you I’m also too old to live in that world. No, thank you, I would like to live too. At least in the other worlds I have a small change of survival, in Wither’s world I wouldn’t even be alive!
I definitely wouldn’t want to live in Panem or the Vaughn Mansion. No thank you. Terrible places, but brilliant books! Great list.
Agreed! Such scary worlds in such lovely books!
Thanks so much for commenting 😀
I had some of the same picks as you, but when I got to the ones I didn’t pick I was like YES omg I totally wouldn’t want to live there either!!
Great list!

There are a lot of really good dystopian worlds that I would NEVER want to visit! Good writing but scaaaary places haha! 🙂
Of all of those, limbo would be the most terrifying for me. I would take monsters and weapons over the unknown.
That is very scary! And a good point. I think I may prefer to face what I know is out there versus some kind of in between!
I laughed at your comment about Kersh(though I haven’t read that book) and being the one who would die because that’s pretty much how I feel about all the worlds I picked today! I would not survive in most of them. Panem is definitely on a lot of list today(with good reason!). And OH YES, The 5th Wave!!!! *shudders*. That’s the creepiest, I think!
The book actually was… not my favorite but the concept of Dualed was interesting and I would NEVER want to live in Kersh haha! Panem and the 5th Wave? NO WAY.
Great Great list… I live right down the street from Monument, CO!!!
Oh how funny! Nothing against REAL Monument… Just the one in the book haha! 🙂
