Okay, friends! This mini-challenge is a mash-up of bookish life and real life. One of things I love to do is travel and really outside of reading, I don’t have THAT many hobbies hahaha. So I’m mashing up books and places I’ve been! I always love being able to see that place in my mind when I read a book and it’s really exciting when I can picture a setting that’s happening in a book!
BETTER OFF FRIENDS — MILWAUKEE AREA
BETTER OFF FRIENDS was actually in the Milwaukee suburbs which is where my sister lives. I’ve passed Miller Park many times and Shane and I have even had our own little weekend in Milwaukee (aside from the times we’ve visited my sister). I don’t actually have many photos of the Milwaukee suburbs so I’ll share my pictures of our events around the city!
THE BOOK OF BROKEN HEARTS — COLORADO
Colorado is beautiful. There were a few scenes where the characters actually go up into the mountains and I could totally picture exactly what was going on! Here are the images that were in my head:
NANTUCKET BLUE and SUCH A RUSH (Not actually Nantucket or South Carolina)
I haven’t actually been to Nantucket and I’ve only been to South Carolina suburbs, so my frame of reference was along the lines of where Shane’s parents have their beach house in North Carolina. I could totally see similarities although, understandably, they’re not the same!
TIME BETWEEN US and DIVERGENT — Chicago area
I’m from the Chicago suburbs so it’s pretty easy for me to picture books that take place in Chicago! I actually pictured TIME BETWEEN US much like my own high school even though it wasn’t in Evanston, but it definitely had the same feel!
So that’s it! Those are my places! I actually could probably come up with a few more but I had to put this post together before I left for the day (our wedding reception venue has an open house!) so it’s a little hasty, but I had a lot of fun!

I love that we had similar ideas for our mash-up post! Yay for loving travel 🙂 I think it’s awesome that you were able to share some personal photos of these places that have appeared in the books you’ve read!
This was a great idea! Wish I’d thought of it! lol I really love it when a book is set somewhere I’ve been or similar to somewhere I’ve been so I can really feel like I’m there! Great pics!
Cool post! I’ve never traveled much (hopefully that will change soon), but it looks like such a fun thing to do! Seeing new places is a lot of fun. 🙂
You have some great pictures! Makes me want to go to the beach though…so sick of this snow!!
This was a super cool idea Brittany!!! I loved seeing all these photos! Colorada is STUNNING, I’d love to go there some day. The beach in North Carolina is also beautiful… I’m not even a fan of summer but if I lived near those beaches I would want be I think!!
I love reading books set in places I’ve actually been! That’s one of the reasons I loved Divergent so much. I could so clearly see the city in my head.
Lovely post! Your snapshots really make the book setting come alive. I can definitely get the Such a Rush and Divergent vibe from your pics. I really need to read Time Between Us!
I love when I can picture books setting vividly. Great photos!
