Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!
In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!
Give a big welcome to Liz from Consumed By Books!
Name & Blog Name: Liz, Consumed by Books
Tell us a little about your blog! I blog primarily about young adult literature, and will occasionally post reviews of adult books. I’ve been doing it since 2010, although I haven’t had as much time to post lately. I primarily post reviews. Sometimes I will get personal, but I love having so many people online that I can discuss books with.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) I’ve written a lot of posts that I’m proud of, but form this year so far I think one of my favorites is my review of I Was Here.
Got anything special coming up we should know about? Honestly, I’m just hoping to get back into a regular routine soon! I do look forward to writing up a summary of all the great signings I’ve had the good fortune to attend this year.
Whatcha reading? I’m currently reading The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. It’s turning out a bit differently than I expected and while I am not absolutely loving it, I believe there are a few more twists to come.
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc): Library!
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? While this one has been marketed as adult, I think it has a lot of appeal for YA fans.
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? It’s a unique take on a relatively common premise, and a lot of readers will appreciate that. I can’t say more for fear of spoilers!
Whatcha drinking? I usually prefer coke or Dr. Pepper because I read a lot over lunch and need the caffeine jolt.
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? Ideally I like to curl up on my couch with an Angry Orchard green apple hard cider and a book after work.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! I have to say the caramel frappucino from Starbucks, which I get might once a week or so. Alcohol is a great luxury, but I need something in the morning to wake me up. Terrible habit, I know!
What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? There are so many! My reading has been really fantasy heavy lately, so I want to go ahead and pick some of my favorite fantasies that I’ve read recently to share. Of course The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, which is a beautiful, heart-wrenching series. I’ve also loved Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman for so many reasons. For a middle grade, Handbook for Dragon Slayers by Merrie Haskell is delightful and does so many things right.
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? There are a lot of great moments — it’s so hard to pick just one! Honestly I’m just glad I get the chance to wake up in the morning and hear people who are smarter and more passionate than I am talk about amazing literature.
Anything else you’d like to share? Thanks so much for having me, Brittany!
Thanks, Liz! I love your beverage choices — that’s one of my Starbucks drinks of choice and I’ve really been into ciders lately too!
Love your book recs as well! I loved Seraphina and I still need to read Shadow Scale!

Angry Orchard! I’m excited to crack those open this fall!
I like your style, book and beer after work. Nothing better than that. Book sounds interesting. I’ll have to check it out!
