Book and a Beverage [120] – Alyssa from The Eater of Books

Book and a Beverage

Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!

In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!

Give a big welcome to Alyssa from The Eater of Books!

Name & Blog Name: Hi! I’m Alyssa, the blogger/reviewer behind The Eater of Books! blog. 🙂
Tell us a little about your blog! The Eater of Books! is a book blog for people who need their daily dose of the printed word (that’s the tagline I have on my blog’s Facebook page!). I review and promote and fangirl over a variety of books – from contemporary to science fiction, Middle Grade to Adult. Come for the interesting books, stay for the sassy humor and brutal honesty.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!)  I think I have many to name! My first blogoversary post was special, because I sat down and really thought about how others impacted my blogging and my life. I did a similar (but more condensed) post for my second blogoversary. Another post that I loved was my introduction post to my Science in Fiction feature, which I was really proud of. I spent months deciding whether or not I wanted to launch the feature, because I didn’t know many readers in the blogosphere who were as science-crazy as I am. Finally, another favorite post is the promo I did for The Boy Most Likely To – it was a promo, but it turned into a really fun post and I got to let my nerd shine bright!
Got anything special coming up we should know about? YES! In 2016, I’ve got this massive event planned with a group that will take place once a week for the duration of the year. I’m still finalizing things (ahh, cue my anxiety!), but I can’t wait to share more information – soon!

book

Whatcha reading? I’ve just finished up Passenger by Alexandra Bracken! I posted my review as well (quick turnaround!). So I’m currently in between books!
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc): This one is an ARC from the publisher! I’m so grateful for it, as Passenger is one of my most anticipated novels of 2016.
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? The timing of the post worked out that way, but I also wanted to feature Passenger and not my previous or next read because this cover is gorgeous, the author is lovely, and I’ve been 4/4 with her other books so I knew I would enjoy the book! And it just so happened that I did. Why not feature something you loved? 🙂
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? This book is a time-travel novel, and I often struggle with time-travel (although I loved the Ruby Red series!), but I adored this book. Bracken takes us through different countries and times, and the settings are so well-written and detailed. I would recommend this book because of the various settings alone! But then there’s the lovely cast of characters, the sweet romance, the high stakes – yes, this is definitely a book I would recommend.

beverage

Whatcha drinking? I’ve got hot chocolate! The mug is my high school graduation mug (Class of 2013 repping!). It’s not quite cold enough for hot chocolate, but it’s gotten chilly, so I like to have hot chocolate every now and then. Also I don’t drink coffee, so this is my warm beverage of choice!
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? I personally don’t like to eat or drink while reading, especially with print books. I’m too afraid of spilling or dropping things on the pages
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! Ahh, tough one! I like a lot of beverages (despite not drinking them so often?). Cranberry juice is SO GOOD. Sierra Mist Cranberry soda? Even better. It’s so hard to find that though! Also, my family is from Trinidad, and we have this drink called sorrel, which is a lot like cranberry juice (but better, in my opinion). SO. GOOD.

bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Fire by Kristin Cashore, Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken, The Naming by Alison Croggon. Fantasy for the win! These are “older” novels but some of the best books I’ve ever read (if not the best).
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? I feel like I have a lot of these moments, because I’m always proud of myself for every little thing. People reading and commenting on my posts make me proud and happy. I recently surpassed 500,000 pageviews in less than three years, which is pretty cool. I love meeting authors and other readers at events – it’s rare for me, since no one ever comes to Baltimore (and D.C. really isn’t that close), but I love attending the Baltimore Book Festival every year. This past October, a proud moment for me was presenting at KidLitCon in Baltimore with Kathy MacMillan (Sword and Verse, HarperTeen, January 2016). There was a lot of fangirling happening, and then a lot of effort put into the presentation. It was a really fun presentation, and we got great feedback!
Anything else you’d like to share? I am really excited about The Eater of Books! turning three this year! I’ve met so many amazing people in the last four and a half years, and I’m so happy to have created my blog three years ago (it was a scary decision, one that I made in the middle of turning in college applications!). Thank you so much for having me here, Brittany! 🙂
