TOP TEN TUESDAY
December 15, 2015

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic was Top Ten Thirteen Books I Read in 2015

I went through a dry spell for a while with Top Ten Tuesday but I just love these end-of-the-year lists! I really enjoy gathering up everything and seeing what I read over the year (which is another reason I love year-end surveys)! I can never pass up the opportunity to book-push my favorites and I was really curious to see which books made into my overall top ten. Thankfully, I have a Goodreads shelf that I keep going all throughout the year called Best of 2015 so at least it’ll be easy to see what I need to pick from.  It was too hard to only pick ten so I chose thirteen!

Queen of Shadows six of crows winter marissa meyer

MOST-ANTICIPATED SEQUELS/SPIN-OFFS

2015 was the year of some of the BEST series continuations, finales, and spin-offs. QUEEN OF SHADOWS blew me away with how amazingly it continued the series and had me continue to fall in love. SIX OF CROWS had me reading it twice within a few months! And WINTER was the series finale of one of my all-time favorite series EVER.

The name of the wind the republic of thieves The Storyspinner Seraphina

FANTASY FAVORITES

I fell in love with THE NAME OF THE WIND and THE WISE MAN’S FEAR this year and I was so amazed with and invested in Kvothe’s story! I adore Scott Lynch’s books and could’t get enough of Locke Lamora with THE REPUBLIC OF THIEVES. Becky Wallace amazed me with her debut, THE STORYSPINNER, and I finally read SERAPHINA which was just a delightful read for me.

illuminae Steelheart resonance erica o'rourke armada

SLAYING IT WITH SCI-FI

Who knew I enjoyed space so much? I was so wrapped up in ILLUMINAE and ARMADA! I found another Brandon Sanderson series to fall in love with in STEELHEART (and FIREFIGHT!) and it was a bittersweet ending to read the second and final book in the Dissonance duology with RESONANCE!

All the Bright Places book cover emmy & oliver book cover

CONTEMPORARY CRY-FESTS

I had a bit of an ugly cry with both ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES and EMMY & OLIVER but they were also so incredibly heart-warming too!

Anna and the French Kiss The Raven Boys - Maggie Steifvater The Scorpio Races paperback cover Deathly Hallows cover

RE-READS

I do tons of re-reads (okay, not tons. But more than ten) throughout the year! Instead of reviews, I did a read-alike guide for ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, an informal re-read review of THE RAVEN BOYS, some YA Aesthetics for THE SCORPIO RACES, and a mini re-read review of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.

Which of these made YOUR top books of 2015? Any of the same ones? Was it hard to pick just ten books… or surprisingly easy?

  1. Morgan @ Gone with the Words

Such excellent sequels! Queen of Shadows and Winter were amazing. I still need to read Six of Crows and Illuminae. And your rereads list is perfect! Anna is one of my favorites to revisit, along with the Raven Boys (which I read again this year too). I read Scorpio Races for the first time but know it will be a great one to read again. And you can never go wrong with Harry Potter 🙂

  2. Jolien @ The Fictional Reader

I’m so glad to see a Gentleman Bastard book on your list! I really love that series so much. And The Name of the Wind too! I read those two this year as well, and they’ll probably be on my favorites-of-the-year-list too. I really want to read The Storyspinner and The Scorpio Races! They seem very interesting.

    Great list!

YES! Omg Scott Lynch and Patrick Rothfuss have easily soared to the top of my favorite authors list. I just love their books!

  3. Amanda

Oh yay! I have the Name of the Wind on my kindle right now, maybe I’ll start that on my way home! I definitely need to read Heir of Fire so I can catch up to Queen of Shadows – and all the Lunar Chronicles next year!

Sad to say that I’ve only read three of these books! Like honestly where have I been! I need to kick my reading into gear and read a lot of these books!

  5. Amanda Marie

You have some wonderful books on this list. I LOVED Winter. It was amazing. I actually read the entire Lunar Chronicles series this year. The Scorpio Races also made my list.
    Thanks for sharing!

  6. Cristal

I absolutely adored Queen of Shadows and The Raven Boys! I’ve been wanting to read Six of Crows, but haven’t been in the right mood for it yet. Good list.
