Name & Blog Name:  Lauren from Bookmark Lit
Tell us a little about your blog! Hello again, Book and a Beverage readers! My blog primarily features Young Adult book reviews, but I’ve recently expanded more into New Adult and Adult Contemporary. I try to have fun with my blog and don’t pressure myself too much, so you’ll see more backlist reviews than new releases lately. I have some features I recently started, like Inside & Out, which gives guests a chance to share their favorite book cover and bookmark. I also have Cover Colors, which shows off book covers I personally love by using their color scheme to make quote graphics, outfits, and other fun stuff. (Can you tell that I like book covers a little too much?) I also have discussions, tags, and all the usual book blog stuff!
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!)
Hmm, this is a tough one! I had a lot of fun discussing hype recently and how it affects my reading. I made a little hype-o-meter graph to show the different levels of hype and how certain books worked or didn’t work for me. I tend to be a black sheep a lot because of hype. I’m going to cheat and also say how much I enjoyed writing my post about review-writing. Lots of people dread writing reviews and I never do, so I shared some of my tips for how to make it more fun and feel less like and obligation.
Got anything special coming up we should know about? I had a couple of posts earlier this year about how I organize myself, my reading, and my blogging – one about my bookish bag and one about my travelers notebook. I kind of abandoned the series for a little while, but plan to kick it back off again at the beginning of 2016! I’ll be talking about my new planner system, how I organize my Goodreads page, and how I changed up my bookish note-taking. I also kicked off a Nostalgia Project this year that I’ll be working on more next year, which involves rereading or rereading series that I loved in high school to see how they hold up.

book

Whatcha reading? I’m currently reading holiday books this week! I just started Snowed Over by Angie Stanton.
lauren bookmark litWhere did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc):
I bought the ebook on my Kindle because it’s a novella.
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? I’ll be reading and discussing it next week with one of my Book Buddies. It features a college-aged MC and technically classifies as New Adult, which is not typical for holiday stories, so we’ll be looking at the differences between the YA holiday stories we read last year and this one.
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? It’s short and quick! I just started tonight and am speeding through its 162 pages. Definitely check out the synopsis if you’re interested, because it may be a quick story you can read tonight before Christmas comes and goes!

beverage

Whatcha drinking? My favorite winter drink is raspberry hot chocolate. The Land o’ Lakes single serves are my favorite! My Broke and Bookish Secret Santa gave me a shake container of mini marshmallows and my OTSP Secret Sister gave me this cute sweater mug (plus some cocoa packets), so this drink is brought to you by the generosity of the book blogging community.
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? I generally don’t drink while I read because I tend to be a klutz… but I definitely lean towards coffee in the morning and hot chocolate in the evening!
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! I think I gave a very long-winded answer to this last time, so I’ll keep it quick and seasonal this time! For the fall and winter, my favorite drinks are (obviously) raspberry hot chocolate and apple cider. I love trying cider from different local places, farms, and grocery stores. There’s a Johnny Appleseed farm near our apartment that has some of the best cider I’ve ever tasted.

bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Again, let’s stick with the HOLIDAY theme here! The top three Christmassy books I recommend to other people are as follows… I love reading any Christmas book by Jenny Hale, including the one featured in the photo. I recommend all of her books, but be warned that they follow similar formulas and may be too repetitive to read all in one holiday season. I like doing one per year! I really enjoyed Ex-Mas by Kate Brian because it features a sweet second chance romance, a road trip, and lots of banter! Totally wins for me. Of course, I have to also recommend My True Love Gave to Me, which was edited by Stephanie Perkins and features 12 holiday stories by her and 11 other YA authors. I loved the variety of stories and plan to revisit this one yearly.
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? I think I’ve just had a ton of growth over the past year. I’m not bogged down by numbers or ARCs or other commitments, and I was able to focus on what I like doing. There were so many “big” bloggers that I admired when I started and I’m happy that I’ve gotten to know so many people since I started my blog. This community is the best and I’m always happy to be a part of it. Going to BEA with Brittany, Amy, and Alyssa, was such a fun experience; I’m glad I’ve been able to meet bloggers and bring the online friendships to real life.
Anything else you’d like to share? I love Christmas and am so happy to share some holiday-themed recs and pics! Thanks for featuring me again today, B!

Thanks for the lovely Christmas-themed post, Lauren!
I loved your post on hype! I totally felt the same about so many books. Hype can serious kill a book for readers!! It’s so sad that it’s so hard to avoid.
Thank you for being awesome and Merry Christmas!!

Nice to meet you Lauren! I just recently read My True Love Gave to Me and I really did like most of the stories – there were some really interesting ones.

As for drinks, to be honest, I don’t really like warm drinks like coffee or tea so I tend to stick with frappes and things like that if I want to get a bit fancy. haha

I love reading holiday books this time of year. I have not read any by Jenny Hale yet, but I will have to put her on my list for next year. Debbie Macomber is my favorite holiday author.
