Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!
In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!
Give a big welcome to Jessie from Goldilox and the Three Weres!
Name & Blog Name: Jessie aka Rose Red at Goldilox and the Three Weres. I also co-blog at the blog Spines & Covers periodically.
Tell us a little about your blog! Goldilox and the Three Weres is a book review blog where me and my cobloggers, Gretl and Goldilox, review all things urban fantasy and paranormal romance, both adult and young adult. These are the genres we review the most often but some sci-fi, historical romance, mystery, and contemporary romance sneak in.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) On the Goldilox blog we have a feature called Read This F@!%ing Book where we recommend books and why we think you should give them a chance. Most of my favorite posts are apart of that feature. But my favorite RTFB post is for one of my favorite series from my childhood, the Damar series by Robin McKinley. It’s full of nostalgia for me because I got to talk about how The Blue Sword was my gateway book that got me into reading fantasy. I really loved writing that post!
Got anything special coming up we should know about? We just started a couple of new features on the blog! We started a Throwback Thursday Review feature where we review books that we loved from before we started blogging. And we have a new discussion post series called Weres Wanna Know that started last week. We also get to participate in several blog tours in the next few weeks! We have lots of fun things coming up on the blog!
Whatcha reading? A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) I bought it!
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? It’s the book I’m currently reading! I loving it! And it doesn’t hurt that I’m a huge Victoria Schwab fangirl.
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? It’s the sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic that was released last year and continues the adventures of our favorite magician, Kell, who can travel between alternate Londons and wannabe pirate thief, Lila. I would highly recommend it but you should probably readADSOM first. 🙂
Whatcha drinking? Pepsi
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? I drink lots of things while reading but it’s usually soda or water.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! It’s a tie between Pepsi and hot chocolate. But if I had to choose between the two it would be hot chocolate because it’s warm chocolatey goodness! It’s the best especially when you add Thin Mint coffee creamer to it.
What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? IOh, that’s a hard choice! As of right now, my choices would be The Marvels by Brian Selznick, the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, and The Raven Cycle books by Maggie Stiefvater. I know that’s four but I couldn’t narrow it down anymore.
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? Last month, I got to meet Victoria Schwab in person at a book signing in Michigan and it was amazing getting to meet her in person! And I got to talk to her about how my last name shows up in a lot of her books as the name for random secondary characters who usually die later. It was really fun!
Anything else you’d like to share? I love the Book and A Beverage feature so thank you for letting me be apart of it! It’s one of the first features I fell in love with when I first joined the online book community!
Thanks, Jessie! Clearly I need to read The Marvels because I love every single other recommendation of yours! I also LOVE that mug!! I want it so badly.
