It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic:
Hidden Gems in a specific genre!
I’ve always been a fan of mysteries and thrillers, even when I was a kid reading the Something Queer series and progressing to Baby-Sitter’s Club Mysteries. I got really into cozy mysteries as a young adult/adult and then when I came back around to reading YA, there wasn’t a whole lot of YA mystery or thriller books! They’ve finally started to pop up over the last few years and there have been some really enjoyable ones flying under the radar (although some more more well-known now) so those are what I’m sharing today!
TEN MYSTERY/THRILLER HIDDEN GEMS
A GOOD IDEA by Cristina Moracho
This book is a little mystery, a little thriller, a whole lot of interesting! Small town meets big personalities and I loved that it was set in the 90s so that darn technology doesn’t make solving the mystery too easy.

JACKABY by William Ritter
The Jackaby series may have a smaller following but the following is strong! JACKABY is very much a paranormal Sherlock Holmes, complete with genius lacking the social cues sort of like a Sheldon Cooper, with new assistant Abigail narrating the series.

WITH MALICE by Eileen Cook
WITH MALICE hooked me immediately and I read the book in literally one sitting! Granted the power was out but I couldn’t put it down. It was very much like DANGEROUS GIRLS and I loved the twists and turns.

LOCK & MORI by Heather W. Petty
A modern take on Sherlock Holmes, LOCK & MORI was such an enjoyable book! I still need to finish the series but I really enjoyed the first book and I love retellings/adaptions in modern settings.

THE ACCIDENT SEASON by Moira Fowley-Doyle
This was a wonderful atmospheric read and was perfect to read in the fall! Mysterious accidents meet possible spirits in a spooky but not scary tale from Moira Fowley-Doyle.

THE CONSPIRACY OF US by Maggie Hall
This series from Maggie Hall is a very fun international thriller series. I love international thrillers and it’s very YA Da Vinci Code, for lack of a better way to put it. Loved the romance, love the characters, love the story.

DANGEROUS GIRLS by Abigail Haas
UGH this book. It was sooooo thrilling and I couldn’t put it down! I literally only put it down when I had to do things like walk and get off of a plane. It was amazing!

THE RULES FOR DISAPPEARING by Ashley Elston
This was one of the first YA thrillers I read and it was so exciting! A family in witness protection possibly being hunted really keeps you on your toes throughout the whole book!

HOW TO LEAD A LIFE OF CRIME by Kirsten Miller
This book was so different than I expected but it was so interesting! I can’t believe how long it’s been since I read this but I remember it being very enjoyable and a little dark.

THE DEVIL YOU KNOW by Trish Doller
This was a great mystery/thriller about second-guessing who you trust, especially those you just met. It’s so easy for teenagers to feel over-confident (and okay, adults too) and spend time with new and exciting strangers. This book is about a girl who just wants to have some free-time and fun away from her family, but is it worth the price of people’s lives?

Whoa, I did the same topic and we only have one in common. Although I have read three books on this list and they were all amazing! I would have included Jackaby but I decided not to go with ones set in historical time period cause that would make the list too long for me. But great list and I definitely need to read the rest.
