Top Ten Tuesday – July 30th, 2019: Best Books I’ve Read So Far in 2019

TOP TEN TUESDAY
July 30th, 2019

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, formerly hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader GirlThis week’s topic was a freebie so I chose to post about my favorite books that I’ve read so far this year!

I’ve only had two 4.5 star reads so far this year but a lot of really enjoyable 4 stars or 4+! I’m still looking for that ever-elusive five star read but I’ve also had a great time with some re-reads too. I thought it would be fun to share my favorite books of the year so far!

MY BEST BOOKS OF 2019 (SO FAR)

KING OF SCARS (King of Scars #1) by Leigh Bardugo
Date Finished: January 31, 2019
Rating: 4.5 stars

I absolutely loved my read of KING OF SCARS! It was such a beautifully written book. I loved being back with these characters but I also just really loved how Leigh Bardugo’s writing just keeps growing and evolving.

A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY (Cursebreakers #1) by Brigid Kemmerer
Date Finished: January 27, 2019
Rating: 4.5 stars

I had heard so many good things about this book before I started but for some reason I was a little bit skeptical. I absolutely loved it! It was so easy to get into and the character chemistry just really worked.

GODSGRAVE (The Nevernight Chronicle #2) by Jay Kristoff
Date Finished: April 14, 2019
Rating: 4+ stars

Naturally, I’m all here for the second Nevernight book! I didn’t love the setting as much as the first but it’s always a good time reading about Mia and Jay Kristoff’s sass is absolute perfection.

THE UNHONEYMOONERS by Christina Lauren
Date Finished: May 30, 2019
Rating: 4+ stars

This was such an adorable book! Parts of it reminded me of THE HATING GAME and it was such a cute hate-to-love creation. The characters had some great chemistry and there were so many cute moments.

TO KILL A KINGDOM by Alexandra Christo
Date Finished: June 17, 2019
Rating: 4.25 stars

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I really loved the mermaids AND pirates, the fantasy, the romance, the suspense. It was all just so enjoyable!

THESE WITCHES DON’T BURN (These Witches Don’t Burn #1) by Isabel Sterling
Date Finished: May 20, 2019
Rating: 4 stars

This was such a fun witchy novel with some great representation! I loved the paranormal and witchy aspects, the characters, the family aspect, the mystery. I can’t wait to read more of this series!

AURORA RISING (Aurora Rising #1) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Date Finished: April 24, 2019
Rating: 4 stars

I had really high expectations for this book and it actually didn’t meet them…. Picking books out of the blue, I wouldn’t have told you this was one of my favorite books of the year but rating-wise, it really was! It was still a very enjoyable book but I was expecting it to blow me away more.

THE KISS QUOTIENT (The Kiss Quotient #1) by Helen Hoang
Date Finished: February 28, 2019
Rating: 4 stars

This was such a fun read with a really great romance! There were plenty of romantic moments, Stella was an amazing main character, and I loved seeing how they interacted.

RECURSION by Blake Crouch
Date Finished: July 26, 2019
Rating: 4 stars

Blake Crouch really knows how to mess with my mind in so many ways. RECURSION was so neat and a thinker, and I’m a sucker for anything involving messing with time. I wasn’t sure where it was going when it started but we got there and it was crazy!

AN EMBER IN THE ASHES (An Ember in the Ashes #1) by Sabaa Tahir
Date Finished: June 20, 2019
Rating: 4 stars

This is the biggest surprise of all! Another I wouldn’t really say was my best of the year but I really enjoyed this when I tried it again… because I originally DNFed it in 2015! I’m definitely glad I picked it up again.

What have been your best reads of the year? What books do you think I might find as a five star read!?

I’ve only read Ember in the Ashes from this list, but I really want to read King of Scars, A Curse so Dark and Lonely, and Aurora Rising! I’m glad you enjoyed all of these but I hope you find a 5 star read this year!
